Zach Gentry being resigned.

Gentry has improved each year. He is never going to be a superstar, but he is a strong complimentary piece. Good signing for both him and the Steelers. I'd expect to see Heyward should take another step forward this year as well. I like our TE room.

Agree that the TE room is good to go for this season. Next year it will hing on Gentry’s progress & cost as to keep or move on.

Young Heyward will take the needed step and become that 1/2 of the duel TE threat the STEELERS will become envied for.

Pretty excited to see Heyward take that next step. He didn't have tons of opportunities last year but he seemed to make almost every one count in a big way!

Muuuth was ranked top 5 TE in the NFL last year. Imagine if When both are on the field and Hayward draws just a little attention away from Muth or visa-versa. BOTH could skyrocket, but of course it would require our OC to call something that actually would utilize both on the same play.

I think Heyward is going to be the FB / Hback this year…. Probably the best receiving threat since JLWilliams at that spot..

Great depth signing.. it is signings like this that makes teams successful

I'm not totally sure what Heyward is but I don't think you can call him a TE. You can maybe list him as that. He is a HBack hybrid to my eyes. I'm thinking they carry two traditional TEs and one on the PS. They don't bring D. Watt back and they list Heyward as a FB.

Again, you have to have an OC who can actually call that. Derrick WATT had a good set of hands as well and he got ghosted in that respect. Hell, Najee can catch…….. yet crickets. If Hayward is positioned there and gets used, that will be a step up from that position in the past.

Also, as others have mentioned, rather than using a high pick for a TE when we have other needs the Steelers can look at developmental options late if they are so inclined.
Agreed----and if Jesse James chose the same path as Gentry...he would still be employed.

Gentry is also the emergency 3rd QB on game days.

WhoAly- ****, if some thought BEN was stiff at the end of his career, wait till they see Gentry in action…….

Couldn’t be any worse than James Harrison as the emergency long-snapper.

I hear yaz Ron, and I wasn't insulting Gentry. I'm just saying the odds of him ever being put in the game is very slim. If he does get in........ look out whiners.

The days of Randel'el & the BUS are long gone...................................

He was a HS QB converted to Tight End in College
Once they elaminated the 3rd QB being exempt from counting on the roster, this is what a lot of teams end up with.

It use to be the “3rd” QB WAS SUITED UP AND CLIP BOARD OPERATOR BUT (sorry for caps) also was training / developing to be a QB. Gentry is a TE and will never be a QB in the NFL, but will be an emergency QB to finish out a game.

It does not seem sensible that anyone wants to watch Gentry or similar play QB in the NFL for even one snap, so making one more spot open to dress that 3rd QB should be a simple rule change.....but not this year, lol.

I think they should go back to the original rule of 3rd QB not counting on the game day roster and exempt him from overall roster number. It would be a chance to develope better QB play, something this league needs.

Then they should make all three QBs active if facing a better pass rushing team.

The consensus isn’t just QBs, it’s overall roster size. I think it should be expanded to 59 and practice squad expanded to 24. I think the 17th game added needs to be compensated for.

The 3rd QB also needs to be exempt from counting on any form roster and allowed a hat game day. It most certainly would help groom a future QB and making the overall QB pool better. The league could use this immensely.
