College Football Week 9
It's a year of upsets. Most assumed there'd be some 3 loss teams from the Big 10 and SEC in the playoff but that may not happen. With surprise teams like Indiana, Iowa State, BYU, Army, Navy, and Pitt all unbeaten, it would be tough to but a 3 loss team in ahead of a 1 loss team. If your team has a loss, you better start rooting against all those teams.
3 Penn State at Wisconsin 7:30 NBC PSU -6.5
Coming off a bye and with Ohio State next week, this is a classic trap game for Penn State on the road. Wisconsin has won 3 straight after losses to bama and USC. Their defense has been great but that's against 3 really bad offenses, Purdue, Rutger, Northwestern. Wisconsin has a good secondary but no pass rush.
Wisconsin wanted to do an air raid type system but have gone back to a run heavy team after their starting QB was losrt for the season. New QB Braedyn Locke isn't very good and does not do well under pressure. If Wisky can't run or falls behind and has to throwm, they could be in trouble.
Penn State has to stay focused and not look ahead and get the job done.
Nebraska at 4 Ohio State 12:00 FOX OSU -22.5
Ohio State coming off a bye and the close loss at Oregon. They also have the Penn State matchup next week. This game looked a lot better last week before Nebraska was blown out by Indiana. I don't think OSU will look past this one after that disappointing loss.
12 Notre Dame at 24 Navy 12:00 ABC ND -14
who would've thought that Navy would be ranked higher than Florida State and USC on the ND schedule? Navy is unbeaten but they have a weak run defense. ND should be able to just run over them for the win. Notre Dame would probably be knocked out of the playoffs if they lose.
Washington at 13 Indiana 12:00 BTN IU -6.5
unbeaten Indiana is ranked higher than Bama and ESPN's gameday will be live from Bloomington. Indiana made a statement blowing out Nebraska last week. Indiana does not play Penn State or Oregon so they only have Ohio State left as a ranked opponent. All playoff bubble teams (IE 2 loss teams) need to root for an Indiana loss because they have a great shot at the playoff if they finish with 1 loss.
Oklahoma at 18 Ole Miss 12:00 ESPN Miss -20
call the the disappointment bowl. Oklahoma's season is going down the tubes as they can't score. Ole Miss may already be out of playoff contention after they got their 2nd loss against LSU last week. Ole Miss probably has to run the table and win the SEC to get a spot.
20 Illinois at 1 Oregon 3:30 CBS Ore -22
this is Oregon's last ranked opponent. Tyhey do still have Michigan but they are struggling. Oregon wins this one and you can almost guarantee them a spot in the Big 10 Champ game and even if they lose that game, they'd be in the playoffs. Illinois is a solid team but I don;t think tyhey have enough to pull an upset on the road.
21 Missouri at 15 Alabama 3:30 ABC Ala -17
Bama is on thin ice for the rest of the season. Getting a 3rd loss could knock them out of the playoffs. They can't afford to overlook anybody. Bama has a bye next week, then LSU. I think they take care of mediocre Missouri they have 2 week to prepare for LSU. If Bama does lose, will a bunch of players then opt out of the rest of the season?
5 Texas at 25 Vanderbilt 4:15 SEC Network Tex -18.5
Texas was dominated by Georgia last week. I think partly because it was Texas's first real battle and they weren't ready. Vandy can't sneak up on anybody now. Just remember Vandy fans, if a call goes against you, just throw bottles on the field until SEC officials change the call.
Florida State at 6 Miami 7:00 ESPN Mia -21
seemed like this would be one of the games of the year, but FSU is now 1-6. They probably folded up for the year but if they have any fight in them, they'll make this their bowl game and give Miami everything they have. Miami has been living on the edge the last 3 games.
8 LSU at 14 Texas A&M 7:30 ABC TAM -1.5
this is probably the biggest game of the week in terms of playoffs. Every SEC team has at least 1 loss. These are the only 2 unbeatens in conference. The loser will have a 2nd loss with some big games left on the schedule which means it's a must win for each of them.
