Steelers releasing Adams

Yup, that got one brick out of Nayha's way while saving that 2.25 (closer to a net +1.25 when factoring in his replacement's salary).
gotta figure CP's 2.8 could be better spent elsewhere too now that they have Johnson and Warren has signed his tender.

even if the money goes to extensions or roll over money it beats overpaying aging vets with minimal roles/minimal production.
One of my biggest fears with the Nayha pick was that he wouldn't beat out both Adams and Loudermilk and they would try to slip him on PS and then he gets snatched up equating to a wasted pick.

That pretty much locks in Cam, Benton, Harmon and Ekuale as the primary guys with Leal and Nayha as the depth along with whoever wins between Lowry/Loudermilk. They probably go Loudermilk as he's younger and more versatile being able to play inside or out wheras Lowry is pretty much an aging DE only guy. He's gonna have to bring it if he even makes it to preseason.

Brock Purdy (allegedly close to a 50 million per year plus extension)
Malik Willis (he's that dual threat- assuming he ever learns to throw the ball)

Skyler Thompson (likely will be a been there done that guy)

So basically, not a lot out there to break the bank for. It is funny but I see this trend of teams keeping/paying their own good QBs, heck even the average ones with potential are getting paid. A few career backups available and a few guys that appeared to be misses/busts.

It's like eventually the Steelers will have to find their own through the draft...maybe they just did with Howard (from the wishful thinking department).

There's Logan Lee too, though he is also a DE only

wow, slim pickings indeed.

Cousins might come available on a Wilson type deal next year......could be a good mentor to Howard and our 2026 QB pick.

Already have him on the PS lol
Lotta bodies and only 6-7 spots

Since Leal was impressing before injury last year and can play OLB in a pinch I reckon he’s close to a lock unless he gets hurt again.

I feel like Lee’s only path to the roster is an injury.

And hopefully that Pickens extension too, my favorite part of the draft was emerging with 2 talented receivers still on the roster.

Now I’m ready for some head explosions with Pickens getting paid too 🤣🤪

The past 4 years we have kept 7 or 8 DL coming out of camp... last year it was 8.

We have 3 total locks
Heyward
Benton
Harmon

After that we have
Ekuale, who would cost 1,630,000 to cut and probably is mostly a lock

Then there is the rest

Lowry
Loudermilk
Leal
Lee
Black
Otomewo
Slade
Davis

The last 3 got no signing bonuses and cost nothing to cut, meaning they are starting off as camp fodder unless they prove otherwise

That gives you 5 guys for 4 spots

The most susceptible there is Lowry. You save 2.5 million cutting him... he played fewer snaps than Loudermilk on D last year abd barely even touched special teams

If they keep 8 again, the 8 th will be a Special teams keep, not a pure DL keep... so he will have a leg up on Lowry.


You cant rule out Leal losing his spot to an OLB typeand us just keeping 5 olbs and 7 DL or any of tge unknowns pushing for a spot either...

If everyone stays healthy, its also possibly one of the guys with some value, like a loudermilk or Lowry, gets dealt for a conditional seventh or something
