Watt gets paid

They were, no doubt. But they had 2 rookies on the OL that were probably just hanging on. The starting running back scared no one that he could have an explosive run. Lack of threat a WR when George went down. Limited QB. To me they were far more out schemed or out coached by the opponents offensive coaches. Other defensive coordinators didn't have anything to worry about.
So you agree with me.

That dude is a Tomlin cheerleader first and a Steeler fan second. Pathetic.
I do think anyone who wanted Tomlin back after year 8 of playoff ineptitude last February probably does value Tomlin remaining head coach of the Steelers over the Steelers becoming legitimate contenders again.

one classic response from people who want him kept is he’s not getting fired so shut up about it already. I’d argue if enough fans get fed up with this and vocalize it loud enough to bend the ear of Rooney it can happen just like how Canada finally got fired.

He’s the coach to start the season, I hope he’s learned/changed and will do a way better job and will give him credit if he does come off his stubborn outdated tendencies. But I highly doubt it

Yeah, with a few caveats. What Tomlin and staff have been doing with the highest paid defense and that talent has been so disappointing. We agree there.

The caveats are on offense. Everybody gets mad at Tomlin for the no pass over the middle, too much running too predictable or whatever. But I think the talent combined with youth and immaturity has really limited that side of the ball. Now that his fault. He picked the talent. But I don't question the scheme as much there as I do on defense.

I don't know. People have been griping about Tomlin since "unleash hell" in 2009. It's 2025 and nothing. I think you are overstating the fan dissatisfaction with Canada got him the boot. Maybe indirectly, as it forced Tomlin to pay attention to what was going on. DK has expressed the belief that Tomlin pretty much lets the offensive coaches go do their thing and really doesn't meddle too much there, and maybe didn't realize the extent of the disfunction. That might be worse, though. I still don't know how he survived the whole Canada thing, however it broke down.

You can't be as predictable on offense as the Steelers have been over the last handful of seasons. You have to at least use all parts of the field at some point to keep defenses honest. All other teams seem to do....regardless who is throwing the ball for them. I have seen back up qbs throw all over our defense. Have career games. I have seen rookie qbs also do that.

Running on 1st and 2nd down and then throwing the ball on third down.... 2 yards short of the first down on a quick out route doesn't cut it in the NFL. And that is our offense in a nutshell over the past half decade sadly.

I dunno I think he had his hand in the cookie jar trying the safe passing approach.

From trends it seems as such..

We’ve discussed this before, I have no proof but I firmly believe Rooney fired Canada after the whole stadium chanted “Fire Canada” because it embarrassed Rooney.

Tomlin claims he fired Canada, I call bs. Tomlins too stubborn to do that

Add in the Penguin episode of chant……………….

Canada was going nowhere under the Tomlin watch, proven by the previous 2yrs of employ.

Rooney stepped up and made it known that someone needs to hit the highway.

Tomlin followed on his induced gut feeling and dropped the hammer, simple math.

Look, I am not defending the scheme. IMO, their players for various reasons have limited them on offense. That doesn't mean the play calling or scheme is any good. Multiple things can be true at once. But I also look at history. From 2014-2018 when he had great offensive players, Tomlin opened up to the point where on occasion I would yell at the screen to run the ball. I would fault him more for the players he assembled and some of his player choices than scheme in this regard. It's still his fault, nobody is getting left off the hook. I think he felt if he could limit mistakes on offense his defense could keep them in games. And it worked a lot, we have to be honest, until they would run up against good teams late in the year or playoffs.

As for backup and rookie qbs, I don't understand that, either. But there have been plenty of times the defense has shut those guys down, too. Players relax, figuring it will be an easier day?

I had to look that up. It was really 2009 the he was going to unleash he'll. Man time flys

I see a guy working at a retailer I go to and if you say anything about the coaching he goes absolutely ballistic. It's pathetic.

Pickett's rookie year I understand the kid glove approach on offense. I was fine with it. Going into year 2 I was excited to see the offense expand. It didn't. Might even have gone even more conservative actually. Sadly. Then we move on from Pickett. Bring in 2 Vet QBs. One a SB winning QB. We saw the same conservative offense. No growth as the weeks went on. Actually the offense got more conservative in the later part of the year with Russ.

All that is on the HC.

I think we all got excited by the preseason. But Kenny Pickett is what he is, and I think being on his 3rd team in 4 years indicates that. I remember watching him in the opener in 23 against the 49ers. He was a skittish mess. From the start. That continued to some degree or another until he was finally injured. We all saw that. How do you expand the offense if your QB is a skittish mess?

As for 2024, you don't think that the lack of growth could have anything to do with a limited QB (many of the things that were talked about with Wilson came true), an immature receiver and no #2, a running back that had very little explosiveness, and an OL that had a LT playing RT, a rookie at C, and a rookie at guard beside him probably running on fumes by the last 3rd of the year?

Now, it is Tomlin's fault for not going back to Fields after Wilson's limitations became more apparent, for continuing to start Najee, and for not getting through to Pickens, and not just playing Jones where the hell he belonged. The one about Pickens bothers me a lot. Not so much that he didn't get through, I'm not sure if a guy like Pickens listens to anybody. But we are sold that is one of Tomlin's best qualities. We know his schemes leave a lot to be desired, so if he can't relate to some of these younger players anymore, what the hell is the point?

Lol. No NFL player wants to get drafted by the Steelers on offense that was a high profile position. Qb? Run run pass. Hmmmm. Rb? Running into stacked boxes because of the scheme. Wr? Limited opportunities. This offensive schemed sucks. For years. Blame the players if you want....or maybe blame Tomlin. Other teams don't have elite QBs and ask more from their qbs and their entire offense. Tomlin's system sucks. The most vanilla generic offense this decade. Thats on him. Not the players. Ask more and maybe perhaps you can get more. As great as AB was.....Bell was....how would they fair in this offense? Maybe they both would have been shipped off after 2 or 3 years.

I have acknowledged the scheme and play calling sucked. I am just saying there is more to it than that. Like most problems it's not just one thing. I have blamed Tomlin, for the scheme but more-so for the player choices, because I can't get past history. We saw the offense from 2014-2018. Really in his whole time with Ben before he got injured. I think his scheme choices have been dictated at least to a degree by his player choices. Again, still his fault.

Damn, you guys perceive anything that doesn't fall completely in line with your opinions as a defense of Tomlin. I would not call anything I replied as a defense of Tomlin.

No one cares who you date.

WhoAley ****, this was huge crack me up, statement.

Perfect timing and presentation.

Thank You SIR, the laugh is still alive.!

Nope. I am not saying you are defending Tomlin....I am just giving my opinion that Tomlin holds a large portion of the blame for our offensive issues. That is all. You see talent as partly to blame. I see other teams that open their offense up that have less talent than ours. So I personally believe Tomlin is holding back the offense.......and defense .....and the team in general.
