Initial Thoughts - Jets game

To console myself about the poor defensive showing, I wanna believe that the Jets are able to put up a lot of points on anyone.

But that’s also to say that we got rid of a pretty good QB in Fields.

Really it was exactly what we have seen for years now? Who is at fault? Players? Coaching? Scheme? All?
I refuse to believe that players who have made to the NFL and have excelled there need to be taught to tackle at this point. Therefore all the ****** missed tackles I put 100% on the players. Now as far as guys being out of position or in a bad alignment is probably more of a shared failure between the players and coaching staff.

Here's the good news though. The defense will get better, and even with the OL playing like crap, this is already the best steeler offense since before Ben's arm was shot.

The Steelers put up 34 points with no run game and no time to throw. This team has huge upside this season.
All that against the .....Jets. what about the elite teams though?

RPO plays have killed us. Watt takes the QB and they simply start handing the ball to the RB....who gashes us. Watt takes the RB....qb simply starts keeping it and gashes us. This isn't something new. Who is at fault? Coaching? Players? Scheme? All?

Yep. That’s why they are called professionals.
No one had to teach Joe Greene how to tackle or teach Mike Webster how to block.

I don't understand the Gainwell/Warren usage. They need to play the better player.

They’re career backups for a reason, they drafted a stud in round 3, give him the rock. Did you see the Breece Hall run where he put his foot in the ground and cut back to gain 10-12?

That’s Kaleb’s game.

RBs without vision, like Jaylen, don’t see those lanes.

So the jets finished 5-12 last year, have a new GM, new coach, and a slew of new players...it's not going to be the same jets team, and judging them as such is wrong. That D is legit, especially that DL.

The OL is an issue, but we should know that the LT will never get any help...Moore never got help, as much as he struggled. Hopefully the defense can figure things out...I'm glad Cam's deal was incentive based, because he should have been giving it back after the jets ran at him all game.

if you are going to try that pass...it has to be to a bigger guy...
In defense of that pass Calvin did make a Moss-like catch earlier in the game. Catch is going to be hard to make no matter who is attempting it if they are going to allow the defensive back to mug them.

Boswell is reliable and consistent. Seems like he CAN nail the long try, on the road to boot.

#8, so far so good. Still has it.

Alas, it was the Jets who ran all over us.
Jets have one of the better backfields in the league. Combine that with a speedy, athletic Fields and what happened today should not be a surprise. In other words its not like it couldn't happen. The players on the opposite side of the field are professionals too. Add the fact that Harmon was out and personally I think Benton sucks (even though I hate to say it since he's a Big10 guy) and I think we may be dragging the defense a lot more then whats necessary especially since its game 1.

Exciting game. The offense sure needed a game like this. I can only imagine if they stunk the joint out. The pressure would have been fierce. The look on Rodgers face throughout the game was concentration, focus. I’ve said since the rumors of getting him he will be all in. His legacy took a huge hit with the Jets, there was no way he was going to let his career end that way. Good on him for having this type of game while all the football eyes were on him. Clutch.

Speaking of clutch,Mr Boswell. Mann oh Mann.
DK had a good outing. Calvin did well. Jaylen came on in the 2nd half. Jonnu will be a great addition.
That tackle by Echols was a thing of beauty against Justin. Clutch.
Arthur Smith all in all had a good game.

Obviously our D sucked but made some clutch plays at the end. Our LB’s had a horrible game. Queen and Wilson. They all have to look in the mirror, but I do believe they and our OLine will improve.
A win is a win……bring on Seattle!

All In, great post. Thank you steelmaNN appreciate yaz.

There are kinks to work out, but the offense put up 34, scored when needed.

The Defense gave up 32, but got the stops when it mattered most.

We won, a “W” is a “W” regardless of many point differential there is (1 or infinitive)

No, but they continually honed their craft. Fundamentals where not a forgotten subject.

We have talent on the OL and they cannot block for ****. Pat Meyer... ?????...WTF!!!
Pat Meyer and Teryl Austin need to be fired immediately in my opinion....at minimum the both of them demoted. Youre not going to be in any worse of a position with new coaches then continuing to ride with those guys.

Tell us race baiting troll: whose job would it be to fire or demote them??? Hint, it’s the same guy who hired them and retained them for the same results last year…you won’t say it tho

I said the same thing. Gonna start calling him Sasquatch.

Not fair. Sasquatch is seen a lot more frequently. They do have the same number of career receptions, I guess so there's that.
