After this one all I can say is $185 Million spent on Defense and this Defense through 2 weeks is one of the NFL's worst! It seems like every week we give up 100+ yards to a running back. Today Walker averaged about 8 yards per carry! And it was earlier this week I think we heard Teryl Austin say "He sees no need for a Nose Tackle in today's NFL". That statement alone should have got him FIRED! Since 2012 the year Casey Hampton retired the Steelers have only been a Top 5 Defense vs the run.....one time however during Hampton's career with the Steelers the worst the Steelers Defense ever ranked when we used a dedicated Nose Tackle was 9th overall in the NFL. With Casey Hampton as a dedicated NT the Steelers had the top Defense in the NFL 6 of the 12 years he played. Don't tell me the game has changed that much that completely ignoring the Nose Tackle position isn't impacting this Defense in a major way! Especially when there is more focus on the running game in recent years!
Offensively this team is one dimensional with a 41 year old QB who lacks good mobility and without a running game it becomes so obvious. Opposing Defenses can just load up and come after the Steelers QB. I know it's only Week 2 of the NFL season but a performance like what we saw today in our Home opener just shows me this team has major problems and it doesn't matter who is behind center when you can't run the football. In 2 games now the Steelers offense has managed 538 yards total through 2 games with 125 yds (62.5ypg) rushing the football. Sam Darnold is nothing special at QB but when a team can run the ball like Seattle did today with ease it makes throwing the football a whole lot easier.
Caleb Johnson did his best Barry "Bananas" Foster impression today! How the **** does a NFL player not know the Rules of the Game? I don't give a crap if he's a rookie or not.....You should know this stuff! I love how Tomlin said in his Post Game about Caleb Johnson's miscue.....he says it's poor judgement by a young player.....how about Poor Coaching but Mike Tomlin, Danny Smith and the coaching staff that you don't mention it to your entire team of the rule changes on kickoffs. DK Metcalf needs to see more than 6 targets per game. There wasn't many positives to take away from this game.
Defensively this team has given up a total 791 yards of offense in 2 weeks against the Jets & Seahawks.....who in their other 2 games against their other opponents managed 154 yards and 230 yards each and both of those games the team was @Home. So the 2 teams the Steelers have played they managed a total of 384 yards of total offense against their other opponents. This is a glaring problem and these warts we are seeing have Mike Tomlin's finger prints all over it. If this continues with little to no improvement this team will be lucky to win 6 games. The positive side of that is that it should get Tomlin FIRED!
I'll give it a few more weeks but I am not very optimistic about the rest of this season....I'm actually kinda numb thinking they could just throw money at a bunch of high priced Free Agents and think they would be better than they have been in recent years and not only that but they thought they could become a Super Bowl contender. It actually shows me that from the top down they have no recipe for success and they are trying everything and anything to build a winner. It's actually sad that this organization and front office has become this incompetent. This is usually why teams like the Jaguars, Browns, Titans, Texans and team like that are always picking in the Top 5 each and every year.
Per Tomlin's Post Game:
Isiah Loudermilk - High Ankle Sprain...seen on crutches after the game
Alex Highsmith - High Ankle Sprain
Patrick Queen - Rib injury was able to return
Payton Wilson - Heat related fatigue
Game Balls:
Jaylen Warren - 134 total yds including a great effort on a catch & run
Game Goats:
Caleb Johnson - My god son....you gotta know the rules of the game if your playing the game!
Aaron Rogers - The ceiling with Rogers might not be that high but it could be even lower if the Steelers can't run the football. 2 INT's today....he looked every part of 41 years old
Issac Seumalo - He struggled last week too but I kinda gave him a pass last week because of Broderick Jones. He was terrible today 2 sacks given up.....was often beat by his man today
FU's:
Steelers Front Office Personel - **** YOU M0R0N$ who thought you could buy your organization into playoff contention and become a Super Bowl Contender! This might end up being the worst Steelers team since 1999.
