I'm just trying to get across that Allar is pushing a rock up a hill in this offense. You watch other college games all day and you will see QBs making easy throws with quick game, slants, screens, rub routes over the middle. Qbs make those throws, gain confidence, move the chains, then sprinkle in some deep shots.
Allar is back there waiting for slow developing routes to come open and he has to make a difficult throw. Now throw in that the OL is struggling. It looks like Matt Canada. Little opportunity for run after catch. Franklin admitted this in his press conference. He flat out said they need to get Allar more easy throws and on earlier downs.
Klatt nails it. This offense at no point has catered to Allar's strengths. It's like they're hoping he becomes a runner.
My bottom line thoughts on Allar
His accuracy issues are mostly due to footwork, lack of confidence, and too many tight window throws
The footwork is fixable. The confidence could be fixable if they modify this offense with some easier throws. The free plays nearly every college offense takes advantage of aside from Penn State. This leads to fewer tight window throws. Complete underneath stuff and the other stuff opens up.
It does worry me that they may have broken him. He's messing up, but he's destined for that in this scheme. It looks like how Franklin ruined Hackenberg. Hackenberg looked like a future #1 pick under Bill O'Brien. Then Franklin came, installed RPO and it screwed up Hack's footwork and mechanics. He's doing it again with Allar.
To make matters worse, the #2 QB and heir apparent, Ethan Grunkelmeyer is also a pocket passer. Adapt your offense to a pocket passer you jackass.
