Initial Thought on clowns Game

I’m really starting to think Tomlin ignores certain TEs
 
If the fans are not so loud with fire Tomlin chants next week then this team is no longer what I thought it was%

This team will not win another playoff game with word salad as the head coach

Both of those plays made no sense at all. Pick up the first down on 4th&1. Take your shot when you have extra bullets in the gun.


From my view it looks like keep it close,but the intent was to lose.

It's the only logical explanation I can come up with.


I hope this punishment of perennial mediocrity ends some day soon.

Tomlin loves living in his fears
 
I keep seeing people saying that the steelers main focus was not giving up a sack to Garrett, that they modified their gameplan just to avoid that. That's crazy. Sure they didn't want to give that up., but short, quick passes has been the gameplan all year. Plus, Rodgers did hold the ball on some plays, it just wasn't Garrett who got the sack.

Have to agree with this one. Did you see him talking to MVS before those throws. I knew he was forcing it to him on the last play. MVS sucks. Always has. Dwight Stone had better hands.

Next gen stats week 17 shows Miller, MVS, Thielen, Washington, etc, all in the bottom third in the receiver separation metric for ALL receivers. Freiermuth was #1 and that's not saying much.

That is the source of everyone's misery. THESE BUMS CAN"T GET OPEN.......

How much of that is on the bums on the field, and how much on the bums on the sideline who set the strategy and call the plays?

Garrett completely called them out at his press conference. Everyone knows it. Tomlin coached not to lose

They can’t catch. I watch other WRs every single week on other teams make contested catches like it’s their job…

In Pittsburgh it’s a surprise if they catch it.

Tomlin keeps bringing in other teams wash outs and leftovers.

I don’t know about Thielen but MVS sure as hell can’t catch. His TD catch the other game was a bad body catch that he almost lost. We were desperate bringing him in.

Watch the replay of the last throw. Keep your eyes on Gainwell. All those 3 yard routes in the last 5 years. Gainwell could have done cartwheels in the end zone,but Rodgers wasn’t even looking anywhere else. It’s not the first time he panicked and locks in.

Almost 100% on the bums on the field. The only way they get open is if Dk is rolling coverage his way. This is why you have to have a legit #2

Yes it is one the few times I was truly disappointed in Rodgers this season. He locked into receivers a number of times this game. Not sure if he was spoiled by pressure or what. He wasn’t the same guy from last week. And the line held up reasonably well. It wasn’t great but considering the defense it wasn’t terrible. Bad decisions and bad progressions.

Lucky for Mike that he clinched his Tomlinship against an average, overrated Lions team last week.

Other Thoughts:
1) Why would Rodgers start that slide so early? He could have fallen forward and gotten the first down with ease. Then they go deep again on 4th-and-1, after having success with Heyward running short yardage earlier in the game. Just stupid.
2) Why in God's name would you not take advantage of a linebacker who is LITERALLY hobbling around in the middle of the field? Coaching and 42-year-old quarterbacking malpractice.
3) "This is why you go get Aaron Rodgers, Jim, for these moments...." Then the Steelers proceed to run the ball three times in a row, and punt it back to the Browns from midfield with 5 minutes left in the game. Thought Romo's comment was kind of funny at the time, but not really.
4) Couldn't help but wonder once again why the Steelers just had to part ways with George Pickens, as I watched Rodgers futilely force-feeding the ball to a washed-up Marquez Valdes-Scantling time and time again at the end of the game.
5) Ol' MT is going to need to pull another rabbit out of his asshat next week and somehow beat the Ravens for the second time this year. Good luck with that. And what a surprise -- it's on SNF to showcase a win-and-get-in game for the NFL. I should have bet my car on the Browns moneyline today, because this outcome was predetermined the moment that Baltimore beat Green Bay Saturday night.

The worst aspect of the 4th and 1 play was the empty formation, as it told the Browns it was going to be a pass.

Overall, the coaching just failed to do the little things to help their WRs get open with DK out, like actually using them over the middle of the field as opposed to everything being outside the numbers.

Several times, Tomlin and Smith basically punted on 3rd down, as they ran the ball on both a 3rd and 4 and a 3rd and 6 situation in the game.

REALLY living in those fears with DK out.

Pickens was traded because Tomlin doesn't want "hostages." George was essentially liberated to fulfill his potential, like Kevin Dotson before him.

Obviously our WR core is not elite, but you also have to scheme guys to get open. The Browns had the #1 pass D so some struggles were to be expected. They should have ran routes right at the Browns injured LB in the middle. He looked like he was about 30% out there. No slants, didn't use muth,smith, gainwell much. Then we use Muth go down the field and force the ball to MVS who only had negative plays all game

It's laughable. It's like the stupid pill industry can't keep up with the demand in Pittsburgh. I just can't wrap my head around it. But, I see it often with this team.
 
Metcalf will and should be blamed for fact that they will almost certainly miss the playoffs. But ultimately that still leads back to Mike Tomlin. He certainly has enough experience having dealt with so many immature wrs. And clearly anyhow they had all their eggs in one basket......so injury or suspension they were ******. Mike Tomlin must go.

Completely agree!!! I turned to my wife and said Rodgers is going back to MVS on that 4th down. And yup, forced pass and no joy!
