I agree with those choices, I really want an offense minded coach, but......we need a coach that is not a 'players coach'.

What about Gruden? I mean on a limited contract. We know he loves Will Howard!

A big NO to James Franklin - he was just Tomlin 2.0 at PSU - something like 4 - 21 against top competition.

I don't wish to speak for my man Zona, but I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that his mention of Franklin and Narduzzi as potential hires was made in jest.

Gruden had some issues not sure Rooney will want those associated with the new hire. Plus I prefer new upcoming talent new blood familiar with today’s NFL.

They won’t lack for candidates considering the history of coach longevity. Even though the new guy will not immediately inherit a squad like Tomlin did, Rooney needs to go with a young coach and tell him to tear it down and you’re here for the long run. You can get rid of or we’ll trade anyone you want, you want us to pick up some of DK’s salary and trade him, we’re in. Trade an old all pro with a year on his contract, gone (Rooney won’t do that one).

There’s 6 guys I’d say should remain because of age and potential, Porter, Fautanu, Harmon, Frazier, McCormick and Washington. Gainwell and Warren are good backs but by the time they rebuild this, their value will be diminished.
I think you could add Herbig and maybe Wilson to your list

This team is a hot mess so whoever we hire needs to understand that 2-3 years of suck are on the way. We need to rebuild the OL, DL, WR, and more!

The more thought I put into it, the more I like Flores.

He's obviously sharp from an Xs and Os standpoint, and if they want someone who can potentially bring back the fire and toughness from a leadership standpoint, he kind of seems like the guy among the top candidates.

Not necessarily. But if it happens sobeit.

Coaching professional athletes and coaching college kids is exponentially different. Very few great college coaches have had great success at the NFL level.
But that is a bit different now with NIL money and agents being involved. College coaches are now dealing with defacto pro players. The major difference being the pro player is locked into a contract and the college player is not. At this time I believe the college coach is in a much tougher position than a pro coach. And pro coaches have a gen manager to run interference. All of that said I am not a fan of bringing in a college coach. I have a few names I would like to see and all have pro back-ground.

as I stated in the other thread

do not bring race, DEI or politics into this discussion.
The color of someone's skin or some other woke nonsense should not be considered. You should ALWAYS hire based on qualifications, period. This pick for coach should not stray from that.

Matt Burke might be worth a look too..

I would think Marcus Freeman would stay at ND as that is a plum position BUT with NIL money being so prevalent and with some media bias toward ND (probably earned in some respects) I could see Marcus Freeman considering the Steeler position.
