Tomlin stepping down

Understood. Just yanking yinz peoples chain. Lol
What is missing in your life that you feel the need to “mock when the getting is still good” other fans or “yank the chain” of other fans as you’ve said here?

Is this the only place you can do that at and get away with it? How hard is your chain getting yanked from 9-5? Sounds like you’ve got lots of issues…

Well, it's also been NINETEEN years. I mean, just let that sink in. The first Iphone hadn't been released yet when he was hired (he was hired Jan 07, first iphone was June 07). A lot of these reporters are just realizing that they've never experienced a Steelers head coaching search. So as much as it was time, and a lot of us are relieved with the news, it can also be sad as it is an end of an era, a very long era.
Yes I guess that’s it.

Honestly the playoff loss to the Texans isn’t even what I think about when I feel a little nostalgic. They’re a good team and we kept it close til the 4th quarter. A loss to the lowly Browns that was for the division championship is what I think about. And so many other times through the years when we lost to teams we should have easily beaten, made bum quarterbacks looks like hall of famers, ran when we should have passed and passed when we should have run. So many clock management errors, horrible challenge and non-challenge decisions, and wholly predictable playcalling. All the wasted talent. And the terrible personnel decisions.
Yeah he seems like a nice guy and players love him. But something was definitely missing.

Read this! Tomlin feels he wasn't "liked by contingents around town"! Hell ya!
Kevin, you did this! Lol.

I'm confused by the article.
So fans can't express anger with futility?
We're supposed to cheer being embarrassed in the opening round of the playoffs every year?
We should be happy picking between 17 - 24 every year because we're consistently mid?
We should appreciate mediocrity?
We didn't get Canada and Tomlin fired.
Their own ineptitude did that. We merely pointed it out since nobody else seemed to notice.

Never a losing season. Greatest coach everrrrrrrr..........

We did it again! At least the fans were a part of it!
After calls to fire Canada, Tomlin reveals why he chose to resign.

According to Anderson, for multiple years, Tomlin "did not feel appreciated with contingents around the city." Whether this was fans, pundits or media alike, this sat heavily with the former head coach. It was not his desire to pursue a new challenge or ownership wanting to move in a different direction, but the vibes were definitely off for Tomlin.

As happy as I am and as happy as I am to be interested in the Steelers again (and man, I have read more about the Steelers and NFL in the last 24 hours than I did in the last year).... I am in no way delusional that we are now Super Bowl contenders or something.

I think our roster is mid at best. We don't have a QB. We don't have crazy good draft capital. Salary cap room and free agency is never a magic wand.

I mean, you could have Chuck Noll come back fromt the dead and with this roster, draft picks and salary cap situation you won't be great.

But I would rather go through a re-building process with a new coach I believe in than the "process" Mike Tomlin brings to the table year-in-year-out for the last decade. We all know what that gets us.

Anything new is better at this point. I could care less about wins/losses likely for the next 3 years while I just get a chance to judge if the "process" looks like an improvement.

Agree. Until we find a great QB and WR lineup, we will never be SB contenders. This isn't Bill Cowher's NFL anymore. Unfortunately too late for Cam and TJ.

You still needed QBs when Cowher coached. Bradyx3 Aikmanx3, Elwayx2, Young, Favre, Warner won Super Bowls while Cowher coached. You still needed a QB to win then.

How exactly have you come to this conclusion???

I'm a known supporter of Coach Tomlin and I also knew it was time for a change but your analysis of the new hire "has to be another minority" is just asinine.

Be careful what you wish for...
Much of the sports media is praising Tomlin or defending his futility as if they feel the need to defend his career and he wasn’t even fired. Maybe they think he was asked to resign? I’m not saying it has to be a minority hire. I’m saying the Steelers can feel less compelled to prioritize that vs if they had fired their black head coach.

I disagree I don’t think skin pigmentation will factor in on the hiring at all. They will comply with the Rooney rule and hire the best man for the job. Fired or stepped down either or it means absolutely nothing in the process.

I say no no no on Defensive coach again
Today’s NFL is an offensive league we need a guy who can mentor a young QB

Wonder if we can get the guy born and raised in Pittsburgh. Hmmm
It would depend on whether that defensive coach has the where with all to hire an innovative OC and stay out of his way.
It would be a refreshing change for sure.

I think Cignetti would be crazy to go pro. He’s well on his way to becoming a college football coaching icon. I imagine his mentor Saban would give the same advice. And there’s no transfer portal in the NFL. That’s how Cignetti has built his teams.

I was talking about Mike McCarthy

he's gonna lose a lot of talen in this draft, he could take a huge contract opportunity if it appears

Dream scenario would be that whoever is hired goes to the playoffs next year and wins.. that would shut every Tomlin apologist up and everyone at ESPN would say but yeah, that’s Tomlin’s players lol.
I don't think it is realistic to expect that. This team is old and full of holes. The team has no bonafide QB1. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

I would promote Andy to GM.

If ya wanna let Khan slip into a “promotion” into a role where he only works with the numbers and contract stuff that’s one thing, but Weidl should get a crack at the actual GM job. Give him a few years to actually build a roster, doesn’t seem to be Khan’s strength.

Maybe even do something crazy and have the GM be part of the coach hiring process instead of the other way around.

Call it Co-GMs if you will. No paper left unturned
