Tomlin stepping down

Wow, and I didn't think anything would get me over another Tomlin team 4th quarter collapse last night.

How many years does it take a coach to learn that if your offense can't stay on the field for three quarters, the defense is gassed in the 4th? Fortunately, we no longer need to worry about that with him at least.

I was fine with Tomlin as coach up until the last 2-3 years as my patience wore thin. My 17 year old son was asking me last night if I thought the Steelers would ever win another super bowl in his lifetime. I think the team is closer to winning now than they were yesterday simply from that one subtraction.

My worry now is they hire Smith to be the coach because it may add some roster stability and there is at least one other team allegedly considering him. They need to fully clean house. Don't hire some retread of a coach or an assistant that's had multiple chances. Don't hire some older guy like Mike McCarthy that had success, like Tomlin 15 years ago.

Do what you have done in the past. Hire a young up and coming guy that's defensive minded with an understanding about the importance of running the football. We also want someone that has at least some history of developing talent and isn't afraid to bring in a good OC and let them make the calls.

I would not be opposed to giving a younger guy like Miami's recently fired head coach (he would need a top DC), or Flores, Miami's other fired head coach another shot.
 
I’m one of those dinosaurs that only got a FB account around 2 years ago,only because my good friend died and that was the groups way of communicating. Plus their Marketplace has taken over as the go to. Besides that I keep everything on private and really can’t be bothered.

Out of curiosity I started reading the Mike Tomlin comments on the Steeler FB Page. It’s like the world has come to an end. It’s unbelievable. Is the rest of the world stupid or just me?🤔

This Steeler Nation forum we use is either way ahead of its time…….or out to lunch. 😁

Rule #1: Stay out of the Facebook comments section.

Seriously, it's entirely possible without a QB that the Steelers go 5-12 with a new HC next year whereas Tomlin is an expert how to take a bad team or a good team to a 10-7 record only to get blown out in the playoffs.

They hated Stefanski, and are thrilled he’s gone..

On the other hand they would love to have “no losing seasons” Tomlin and think it would piss off Steeler fans.
Little do they know.

They wanted Cowher back when he resigned…,now that would have pissed me off.

I am fine with some growing pains. Get a real offensive and defensive concept and scheme in place and roll. Build a new culture.
 
I was on my way to the gym when a friend texted that Tomlin reigned.

I told him that it was an AI generated video prank numbnuts!

I'm a known supporter of Coach Tomlin and I also knew it was time for a change but your analysis of the new hire "has to be another minority" is just asinine.

Be careful what you wish for...

It's the same people that only watch CNN and think they are getting real news.

Any other team that goes 9 years without winning a playoff game wouldn't have the same coach by year 10 either. Without Tomlin's king of average 19 season record, even the media would have been calling for his head years ago.

The team may hire a dud that makes Tomlin look like the greatest mind of all time. However, at this point, I want them to take the risk. I was done with the Tomlin norm after last year's playoff beat down and last night.

You can't give Tomlin credit for doing more with less, but not also recognize he's the one responsible for the less to begin with.

Why does it matter? The vast majority wanted him gone anyway. Why waste time with a press conference for those same haters to ask stupid questions???

The man is gone. Let's move on.
 
I think I'd like the paring of Flores as HC and McDaniel as OC. With Flores at HC, who the DC would be is not be as important,

Given Tomlin had the same starting quarterback for his first 15 seasons, if he did indeed have subpar quarterback play for all that time that would be on Tomlin for not moving on from that quarterback sooner.

Seriously though, Mendenhall must have a real grudge against Ben for him to make such a ridiculous statement about Ben's play.
 
Long overdue. I wish him well, hope he has an Andy Reid type second half of his career, but it was time.

BTW, since he stepped down the Steelers still have his rights in 2026. They should choose a team together and trade him for a 1st and 2nd.
 
What do you guys thing of Jesse Minter? He seems to fit the profile the Steelers like. A young and up and coming defensive minded coach. He's got the Tomlin connection as well.

It's not bigger than the grudge most of us still have for Mendenhall since his fumble cost the team number 7 and Ben his 3rd.

Out of all the comments today,his was the only one that went there from what I saw Berm. He’s a bit of an idiot.
