You know, I'm not even worried about the salary cap right now after looking at it. I think the QB options for 2026 are going to be bad for us. Old free agents. Not a lot of options. I am very worried Rooney (who just doesn't understand any planning past "next game") will ruin our cap trying to find a bad quarterback. I hope a new coach talks him out of that knowing when he is hired here, his 2026 performance is NOT going to be what gets him fired.
I might even be willing to go into 2026 with Rudolph. Or let the new coach bring in a cheap veteran he likes as competition.
Use what cap space we have to get Porter and Jones under long term deals (using up 2026 space if need be). Be wary of long term splashy signings this season and look for good 2-3 year deals after the rush of overpriced free agents.
But again, any type of "Project 2027" plan means we will have a young QB under contract so our cap is going to be flexible if we can get a franchise guy in the draft. There is no rush in trading or cutting bad contracts right now in my opinion. Only do it if it makes good financial sense.
As with building anything quality, this years' draft to me has to be best player available and looking for better quality for our offensive and defensive lines/front-7. We need to hit on 3 out of our first 4 picks in the top-100 and find solid B or A contributors.
