Is the NFL fixed ? - After watching that Bills debacle

That turnover call in OT has to be one of the worst calls I have ever seen . I don’t see how anyone could watch that play - that took away a scoring opportunity that would have determined the winner - and not question whether NFL officiating is determining the outcomes of games.
I’ve just focused on the calls and no calls against the Steelers - but it is much more pervasive than that.
But this? This was just an egregiously terrible call.

Thoughts ?

Buffalo had every opportunity to win and did their normal. One of the calls was clearly a PI.

I didn’t feel that game was fixed as Buffalo was a strip away from a win…
 
It was a bad call and highlights the massive flaw in replay assist. At least give the impression to go through the process because every other time the receiver has possession and is down by contact, they keep possession. Is it fixed? What incentive does the NFL have to keep Josh Allen from advancing to the AFC Championship game?
 
I don't know what the incentive would be for the NFL to have Buffalo advance or not advance in the playoffs, but there is something that compelled them to first make that terrible call and then to not overturn it to right a wrong.

SOMETHING is wrong with the NFL
 
Just watched the youtube. I agree that the offensive player had the ball with his knee down. Then, the defender took it. Don't like the look, particularly when you see that the flags came out at the end for the Broncos.

It just doesn't agree with the eye test.
 
A guy that I know that really doesn't watch football at all, a former cop, says minutes after the game ".....wow, I don't watch much football, but that was terrible....those calls were so bad, it's hard not to understand that gambling has a huge influence."

Watching without bias makes the retarded calls like that OT turnover, just so obvious.

I mean, we all saw the first rats game with a whole bunch of calls that benefited the Steelers, and then that last game with 3 long TDs, and two last missed kicks, all in the last few minutes.....great game to experience, but shiiit football.
 
There were a few plays where a Bills player's momentum was clearly stopped and was being pushed backwards but no whistle as Bronco players were grabbing at the ball. Seemed like the refs were allowing time for a strip fumble.
 
I felt like it was pretty clearly an interception, but the Josh Allen fumble at the end of the 1st half almost seemed like he just threw it away.
 
It was pure brilliance for the league to script that lopsided blowout between the Seahawks and 49ers lastnight.

Cannot make it too obvious.

The real issue is that the league way overregulates the passing game against defensive backs because it wants points, and apparently, lots of points are the only way to have exciting games.

It often leads to unnecessary controversy late in games, and the game just flowed better when defenses were allowed to be more physical with receivers, making it harder to pass and forcing teams to run more.

All those flags and incompletions are buzzkills to me, and shootouts aren't as exciting as the league thinks they are when you see them just about every other ******* game at this point.

I still enjoy the NFL, but it just generally feels like an unbalanced game right now.

The rules are stacked against the defenses and a RB has not won MVP since Adrian Peterson in 2012 and he had to split the award with Peyton Manning.

After every incompletion that was a contested play.....you have to wait a few seconds.....even sometimes 10 seconds or more for a flag. Game is just different now. And not for the good.

If you walk into a garage and or a basement and immediately hit your head on a beam you better take steps to avoid smacking your head again. That surface isn’t going to magically raise itself. You would adjust the height or move right?

Steelers need to know these pansies made the game a point driven look. So they better move their philosophy and adjust to the situation. Or then it is a shame on them not on the league.

Exactly Coolie. I’m just not sure what everyone is bitching about. Clear as day has to survive the ground. He didn’t. Defender did. It’s not that his bottom or knee hit and the play is dead. He has to survive the ground. He didn’t.

Okay, so I have zero knowledge of gambling, but it seems that there is a little bird in the ears of the officiating crew. Let me see if I got this right. On FanDuel, someone can bet on almost anything right? So, what if when the Broncos were forced to punt to the Bills, that a whole lot of action was then placed on the Bills to win. So, they call up the officials and say we can't let that happen because we will rake in 100 million if they don't. So, a call here, a call there, and all of a sudden things change and it's the Broncs ball. Add in the fact that there could be a whole lot of action on the Bills winning to begin with and you have a recipe for an incredible payday! The biggest part is that the games are close all the way until something wierd happens in the 4th quarter - always the 4th quarter with like a few minutes to go that **** starts happening. Yeah, I can see that some think it is fixed. I'm not sure how it really can be if teams continue to make plays that you can't influence. I guess at those times, Vegas takes the hit.
 
Not fixed but the refs have a lot of influence at both the professional and collegiate level.

Add in when games are broadcasted to be on in millions of homes world wide and a call is made that impacts the game, then this is where we have these discussions.
 
FanDuel and sports betting in general, fantasy football, constantly changing the rule book to where a simple guy like me has to wait for the replay booth to tell me what my eyes just saw. Oh, and free agency creating a need to take out a loan to go to a game.

I miss football from the 70's and have no idea what we have now.

Nevermind. I had a thought but then I fixed it myself.
Agree that it was not an incomplete pass but I'm not understanding why the Bills receiver was not down by contact then.

Ok so the bills Receiver catches the ball
He does so while going to the ground, he mskes no " football move

When he hits the ground, the ball comes loose...
at this point, if the ball had touched the ground at any time during or after the catch, its an incomplete pass by rule...

The ball doesnt touch the ground though... the Broncos defender grabs it...

Since the pass was never completed by rule, the reciever couldnt be touched down


Now the real gripe should be the refs letting guys get mugged all game, then calling it in OT
 
I thought the last pass interference they called on Buffalo was legit. I thought one they called earlier in that drive was a bad call, but there was also roughing the passer on the same play, and that did seem legit. If they hadn't called pass interference, they would have still gotten a first down on the play due to roughing.
 
After listening to the explanations of the rule, it appears the rule was correctly applied. He didn't survive the ground, if the ball had hit the ground it would have been incomplete. It just ended up in the defender's hands.

Stop with the conspiracy theories, it would have been much better for the league to have Josh Allen playing next week instead of Jarrett Stidham. The Bills turned it over 5 times, Allen's inexplicable fumble just before halftime cost them 3 points. He does things like this routinely, but he usually makes enough great plays to overcome.
