If the Steelers lose at Baltimore, they should start Will Howard at QB for the MNF home game vs. Miami on 12/15.

Fans would love it; let's see what he can do. It beats the threat of "Fire Tomlin" chants getting louder. Because we know that'll happen if Rodgers or Rudolph struggle.

(By the way, hello there. It's been a while. But, like Coach Tomlin, I'm still around. 🙂)

I think that's just throwing the guy to the wolves behind this Oline and even worse with this play calling, he won't be allowed to do anything. Aaron Rodgers is a 4 time MVP and we haven't completed a pass of 20 yards in 5 games. Nice to see you again

i'd do it if we got rid of Pat Meyers' retarded *** and sub-subpar blocking scheme.

Nah. Frenchy, he’s nowhere near ready. Didn’t even get any pre season snaps because of injury.
You’re setting this kid up to fail big time by throwing him in there with this mess.
Btw, John Frenchy Fuqua was one of my favorites back in the 70’s. Still remember Frenchy wearing those shoes with the goldfish in the heels. He was cool!

I seriously doubt Tomlin will even consider Howard after a loss to the Ratbirds, but if they lose to them and then the Dolphins with the Ratbirds winning next week as well, then he should start trying to get Howard some reps with the 1st team and in the stadium. I said this in another post that if Tomlin is out of the division race (and a playoff spot) and he can still get to 9-8, he will never put Howard in. Heck, they could get to the last game and be a lock to have his first losing season, and he still won't do as most teams and start Howard.

Since Ben, and only because it was Ben, what QB has excelled under this coaching staff? (ie. Mediocre Mike)

Zero, nula, null, cero, nolla.

KFP may have excelled if he went to the 49er's under Kyle Shanahan and been their version of Brock Purdy.

Tomlin will ruin Howard, the history confirms this.

Good to hear from you again, Frenchie,
By the way, how are those high heeled goldfish platform shoes holding out after all these years?
Unfortunately, I believe we will see Skyler Thompson start a game before Howard this season.
That is if the lumps on his head have healed since his beat down in Dublin!

I don't think that I would run the risk of David Carring Howard, but I would give Skylar Thompson a shot.

If AAron isn’t healthy enough to take a snap under center he shouldn’t be playing, regardless how much we do or don’t do it. I would sit AR and start Mason with the Rook in the 2 position so he can come into the game.

by playing Howard you risk a Chuck long situation. Long had the tools to one of the great one but the lions threw him to the bears in his rookie season against one of the best defenses ever. Long got destroyed that game, I think he was sacked around 5 or 6 times and was just plain beat up that game., it was straight up ugly. he got gun shy and never recovered

I don’t think the Steelers OLine is bad though. Howard also is the most mobile QB on the roster.

Just food for thought…

I've seen analysts post offensive line grade charts and the Steelers OL has performed well in pass protection and fair in run blocking. It looks messy, but they're doing solid work.

Rodgers took 9 sacks in the first 6 games, including 7 in the first 2. He's been sacked 11 times in his past 5 games and I would guess at least half of those are on the QB.

Howard's stats, including national championships, are remarkably similar to those of the presumptive 2026 #1 pick Mendoza.

Only one of them has spent a year learning with Rodgers.
I definitely think he will get his opportunity to show with a new coach…

I’m hoping this year he does get thrown into the real game wolves.

Salute the nation

Thank you for bringing this thread to life @Confluence . I think the Steelers got a steal with Howard! I believe this kid has what it takes. Will he be a sixth rounder GOAT (ala Brady)? No, but I think he will be great for our franchise.

I have no problem going into 2026 with just Howard and Rudolph as our primary 1st/2nd QB tandem because I think we would struggle and set ourselves up to get a really good QB in the 2027 draft.

I don't think a new coach or Art Rooney will want to do that though.

That leaves three other options:

1) The old QB free agent, just one that the new coach likes (that very well could be Rogers again)

2) Kind of force picking a QB in the 1st/2nd round of this years draft (possibly using 3rd rounders to trade up a few spots)

3) Use our draft picks to trade for an out-of-favor or previous "first round savior" QB that is still young, but is on the way out of their current situation.

I prefer #1 over #2 or #3, but until we know who is coach and start to hear the rumors around the off-season and free agency, I have no idea how this will play out.

I am a little worried as I watch some of the QB tape and look at scouting reports that we are going to "force" a high pick on one of the muddy QB prospects this years: Simpson, Nussmeier or Beck. We could just wait and see who "falls" out of that group maybe to our 2nd round pick, but if the new coach gets enamoured with any of them, it is not out of the realm of possibility we pick one of them with #21 overall.

I really hope that doesn't happen, but who knows.

This off-season is going to be controversial no matter what happens I think. From a new coach, to potentially picking a QB in rounds 1/2 and all the other drama (we have cap room).... should be fun around here.

Draft everything but QB, start Howard and either he hits and we are good or he misses and we get a top pick the next year. Just DO NOT bring back Rodgers for another year.
