Yep, I wonder why Howard became a 6th round pick when he led his team to a national championship and proved he can make all the throws on the field. Yet, Mendoza is all worldly when he does the exact same thing! Makes no sense to me.
About time to see what Mr. Howard can do

Did you watch both of them play much? There's a difference. Mendoza fits the ball into small windows. Howard was throwing to a lot of wide open receivers.

When Howard was on, he was making the same tight window throws. Problem is, he wasn't as consistent as Mendoza and had a couple stinkers in there. But make no mistake, he can drop dimes.

Nobody can fairly evaluate a new qb until they face real defense in a real game. Aikman looked like hammered dog crap for 16 games. Let Howard play. If after 3 or 4 games you decide he sucks, put in Rudy.
Thank you Mr. Rodgers, for giving it a shot this year. That 'thinking' is over now, or should be over now. If I hear one more person say, "if we bring back Aaron for one more year"...then what? That could only mean Howard must be the chosen one who will lead this team to glory!

I'm on board with what Big Ben recently said the team should do. Don't pick a young QB early in the draft for a couple more years. Continue to build out the team until all that's left is to add a top talent QB.
He pointed out how that worked for him when he was drafted. The pieces were mostly in place for him to step in and succeed.
He mentions that too many good young QBs are drafted early by terrible teams and expected to have success without a good OL and other key spots filled. They get destroyed and considered a bust early on stopping development. He pointed to examples like Sam Darnold.
They should run things out with Howard for a couple of years, then make the change if he does not prove to be an NFL starter. He can always drop to the experienced backup role.
Speaking of filling out the roster, the Bills owner went scorched earth on Keon Coleman. I can't see any path where he stays on the team. The Steelers need to be aggressively trying to bring him him cheap in they can. With little to lose, this might light the fire under the kid.
He has the potential to be a really good WR and would fill a huge void on the team if they can get him for cheap and if the new coach can develop him. He's still only 22.

Eli Manning had a terrible rookie year. In 9 games (7 starts) he only completed 48% of his passes and had like 6 tds and 9ints. His rating was about 55. Teams are just not patient with QBs or players in general anymore. I can't imagine if we drafted a QB number 1 and he had those stats. This board would explode.

I'm concerned that whatever WR issues Coleman has might be similar to those of Roman Wilson.

I'm not ready to write Roman Wilson off and hope the team allows the new coaching staff to evaluate the kid with a clean slate. He showed a lot of promise at times when he was briefly allowed to be on the field.
He had the misfortune of getting into Tomlin's dog house for whatever the reason. Tomlin's dog house is where a lot of young talent went to die over the years.
I don't know if his issues were major, or simply due to doing something to get in Tomlin's dog house early on then having a short leash put on him the rest of the time.
Tomlin let his favorite vets do whatever they wanted. The young guys and lesser vets, not so much.
I've said this a couple of times. Keep Rudolph as your experienced QB2 or QB3. He's signed on a dirt cheap contract through at least 2026. Howard should be the QB1 right now as we stand and should be going into OTA's and preseason. If they draft another QB high, he and Howard should battle for QB1 and QB2. If they want to bring in another old veteran again, Howard should still get a ton of looks to still be the QB1.
At this point, it makes no sense not to see what Howard can bring to the table. What sucks for him is that he didn't get any playing time last year and now will have to learn a new offense. He is very smart, and my guess he will be calling the new OC and QB coach as soon as they are named.

I think that is where people just stopped evaluating Howard. They looked at the talent around him and said they made him, not the other way around. But Howard made plays when they needed them, he's got mobility, he can make all the throws, and when **** got real hard, he didn't buckle, he learned, stepped up, and had one of the best playoff runs you could ever ask for.
I've said it before, besides Mendoza, the only QB I even look at from this draft is Chambliss, and with all the legal stuff going on with him trying to another year, that just pushes him down for me. I think Howard can be a guy, and if developed right, or put into the right system, can absolutely be a bridge starter at the very least. He has the size, athletic ability, and a strong arm...what is unknown is his mental game at the NFL level. Will he be able to read defenses? Gruden loved him, Rodgers had nothing but praise for him and his approach/work ethic. Working with Rodgers will only help him in the long run.
I would do like Ben said, load up on OL, DL, WR, S and roll with Howard. It's the best way to set this team up for FUTURE success.

Howard could be a very good distributor, his above the neck skills are excellent, as well as his intangibles/leadership. Need a legit OC and/or offensive head coach and more WR weapons.

Now that his draft stock has tanked, I'd strongly consider Drew Allar later in the draft. If anyone has read any of my posts, you would know how much I dislike him as a QB. However, if the Steelers get a legit QB friendly HC/OC, give me a QB with some serious tools. It may be a Browns-like approach going with a vet and two young guys, but keep throwing darts until you get someone at QB. It's the only way to advance the franchise forward.
Wills is the only upside free agent and Mac Jones will get brough up as well, maybe a Sam Darnold bounceback?
I know some are down on him and the class in general. I still like Ty in 1. My thinking is along the lines of that QB friendly hire…

I have concerns over his struggles the second half of the season and his small frame (reminds me of Kenny Pickett getting injured all the time). Then there's this:
I'd at the least want to see it in some preseason games. It's an unknown. I'd be good with signing someone to compete with Howard, but I couldn't just give him the keys based on his college tape.
