Quarterback Scouting Thread

A big part is how much you trust Mike McCarthy to put a young QB in position to succeed. Also, what is the ceiling/floor for each?

To me, guys like Simpson, Nussmeier, or Klubnik have the upside of a Brock Purdy. All are undersized and have limited arm strength.

Allar doesn't have the clutch gene, but at least has special traits. His arm allows him to make throws not everyone in the NFL can make. The big question is, can McCarthy coach out the negatives, or at least work around them?

This is my version as well. Thanks for all your great post(s) 448, appreciate you.

Currently, i think the risk is worth the reward.

I also think he will go in the day 2 draft.

Allar and/or Beck will go way earlier than some think. Depending on what teams want, I could see either going early in the second round.

I wouldn’t pick any of them earlier than 3.

( way off my earlier stance)

I think with this unattractive class they will be overdrafting. I have no desire for the Steelers to follow suit with their plethora of needs.

I'd be okay with it, fully trusting Mike McCarthy's QB evaluation. The Steelers have needs everywhere with QB being far and away the top need. We're paying him a lot of money to coach up the next young QB for this franchise.

Waiting a year could be interesting.

Julian Sayin and Arch Manning will battle for the top spot--I think it will go to Manning assuming moderate improvement. As long as Dante Moore stays the course, he should go top-5 as well. Seriously, if these guys don't bomb, we will see 3 QBs go in the top 5 picks. The rest becomes a crapshoot.

Maiava, Sellers, Sorsby all have the size and arm talent, but questions. I'd love for Maiava or Sorsby to light it up and be in range for the Steelers. Sellers just has too many questions for me, particularly his lack of TD passes.

Chambliss lacks size yet showed he can be electric in a big-game setting. Still, that size issue is significant, IMO.

Leavitt and Mateer are a combination of Baker-lite or a max upside of Bo Nix, IMO.

Nah. You are confusing talent with measurables. Yes, Allar has the prototypical size. Yes, he has a strong arm. Those are physical traits, not talent. If he were talented, his physicality would translate into great ability. It doesn't, because he isn't mentally talented.

And I'm saying Allar won't be better than Mendoza, because he lacks the mental ability. Allar clearly doesn't have that "clutch" gene that so many great quarterbacks possess. He chokes in big moments. He panics when the game is on the line. Mendoza doesn't. @tapeANaspirin2it should know that better than anybody, after watching Mendoza drive Indiana down the field with pinpoint passes in the final seconds of their win over Penn State a few months ago.

So talent is just on field success in college? Maybe we can get Stetson Bennett.

You want to use the term physical traits. OK. NFL teams draft Physical Traits in rd 1. Drew Allar has the best physical traits of any QB in this draft.

Who's talking about Mendoza? He's going with a top pick. I suppose if you need to hear it, I'd take Mendoza over Allar. But yes, Allar does have more physical talents than Mendoza. Mendoza wasn't a big target in the portal last year.

You've gone out on a limb that Heisman winner and projected #1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza is talented. Maybe you can grace us with your list of the "talented" QBs in this draft.
