Draft Thread Rounds 2 and 3

I think this draft is a very Omar Kahn draft. I see a lot of solid contributors. Guys that will eventually be starting for a likely .500 team (at least until we find a real QB). Guy that will be steady AV accumulators but no real studs. Very few difference makers or guys that are must-sign 2nd contract Steelers.

I do like the WR in round 2. He fits exactly what McCarthy likes and his upside on this team is probably the highest.

The first round OT is a project. Likely won't start this year but projects out to be a starter for the rest of his rookie deal.

Allar is going to generate more questions for this orgnization rather than answers. He might flash his huge arm and everyone will fall in love with him. But if his "flashes" of greatness prevent us from firmly committing to investing in a first round QB, that that is actually worse for this team in the long run. That is my worry.

I think Khan is going to finish this draft out with solid contributors like he has the last 3-4 drafts.

I just worry we don't have enough studs and we don't have a QB. A new coach isn't going to change what that combination leads to.

I am fully in on Project 2027. But if there is any doubt about the QB spot as a must fix, then we are screwed. I'm sorry if you guys think that is harsh. I'm sorry if you think I am not giving these guys a chance. I am and I will. But I also kind of know from experience where this is headed.

Its sink or swim for the QBs, if we end up sucking we will get a higher pick next draft , and that's good.

I'm liking the draft so far. I had been hoping the Steelers would draft Allar all offseason. The guy is a Big Ben 2.0 clone in many ways if he gets coached up.

Allar had a really good 2024 season, then, like the rest of the team, struggled last season. The Steeles had a number of QB options and went with Allar. If I've got to accept that McCarthy is the coach, then I'll at least give him credit for being a QB whisperer, saw something he really likes, and hope he can coach up either Allar or Howard to be a franchise QB.

Allar has the intangibles you can't teach. The guy is huge, has an elite arm, and has decent mobility. I'll trust the coaching staff liked the tools he has and feel confident they can coach him up.

I'm guessing this means Rudolph is gone, assuming Rodgers is coming back, and if Howard and Allar look good during camp, since his contract is not guaranteed. Worst case, they keep Rudolph and protect whoever comes in second this summer between Allar and Howard on the practice squad this year.

Ok, I like Gennings Dunker a lot. I think I had him as a second round grade. But he should be a RT so either they think Max will be a LT or they are just doubling up at RT... I guess you can't have too many nasty big uglies so I am not upset just seems like there were positions of need with players ranked similarly to Dunker still available.

Campen said he would be focusing on guard, tackle will be a secondary position.

That has to be the plan.

Khan has now ONLY drafted big uglies in round 1 for four straight drafts. He will eventually have to pick a play maker - either on offense or on defense.

The stretch is coming up for this team for those types of players in round 1. Next year might be QB, year after that might be Edge or WR or DB.

But you can't ALWAYS pick linemen in round 1 even if they are the ones that often make/break franchises (after the QB of course).

Hopefully, these steady, if unspectacular, drafts to fill out depth help us in the long run. But we do have to pick a playmaker/difference maker soon.

Biggest needs this offseason
QB - Allar
WR - Pittman and Bernard
Upgrade OL - Max and Dunker
depth on defense - Everett

All boxes of must haves are checked. Now they can take another WR and add depth with BPA
A lot of young pieces in place for the offense with Frierermuth, DK, and Pittman as the veterans. We have an offensive-minded coach to grow and develop this group.
