I know he's been working on it and has shown some improvement this year. Will that continue is the question. If I was Porter and they offered me $20 mill ......I simply would play out my contract and cash in next offseason.

A gamble was paying Watt what we did this past time. Paying Porter now is called an investment.

I think Sauce has been slipping. Perhaps not at his peak but recently he hasn’t played at his peak. Where Joey is playing better as he goes.

JPJ shouldn’t be the highest contract because he’s not at that level. Top 5, sure because in no time he’ll drop to top 10 in CB pay. I also don’t think TJ’s contract is comparable because of the age factor. Massive third contracts are risky.

The top 5 goes 31 Mcduffie, 30 Gardner, 30 Stingly, then its 27 Horn, 25 (drum roll.....Jalen Ramsey). So where does JPJ stand?

Bear in mind that not only will JPJ be looking at what other cornerbacks are being paid, but recent contracts given to his teammates. I suspect he will expect significantly more than the Steelers paid Herbig!

If it was based on playmaking I would say 24. If based off coverage 27-30. Combined approx 27..and with here and now get him signed salary 28-30.

I don't think the "next guy" always has to be the highest paid and with the top 3 earning multiple AP honors, I slot Porter in at $28-29 million.
 
Try to get him on a 4 yr contract with a 5th yr option.

$25.2- $29 mil per yr, $45-$70 mil guaranteed. The lower the contract the higher the guaranteed money

Get him to bite, that 5th year is criticle.

So this being my point you slot him at 28.5 million. OK they can quibble around with that but its really about 6 million on the life of the contract. They paid 4 million one season to a CB who practiced like 4 times.

I'll get flamed for this but I'd move TJ and his contract to free up money to sign a good 25 year old CB rather than having the highest salary tied to a past-his-prime pass rusher with 2 younger guys already on the team.

I love TJ as much as the next Stiller fan but emotion is no way to run a business.

I don't want the Steelers (or other NFL teams) to continue the practice of "the next guy" is automatically the highest paid. If the Steelers are going to make a player the highest paid at his position, he needs to have All-Pro recognition as one of the top 2-3 players at his position. I think Porter is good, just not that good yet, so I wouldn't give him top dollar.

Sure it is when that business is so a part of the city. We don't want to be just another franchise.

I think TJ Watt is un-tradable at today’s market VS his contract. The Steelers would have to eat a large portion of the contract and still would have to find a team TJ was willing to be traded to. I’m pretty sure there is a NO-Trade clause in his contract.

It’s all about the money, TJ is not willingly going anywhere for less money.

That contract was not a friendly 3rd contract deal for the STERELERS, obviously TJ comes out the winner.

I disagree. If a team like the Bills thought they were a pass rusher away and wanted Watt bad enough, it would happen. No trade clauses are very rare and according to this article (https://www.si.com/nfl/texans/which-nfl-players-no-trade-clauses-contracts), Watt does not have one.

So that's wherr its tricky. If it was a 5 million to the top....no. I think they can give him Sauce Gardners deal cause 25 isn't going to cut it.
