Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

I think that's the consensus of everyone not named Porter. I get trying to get the best deal for yourself that you can, but Jr may well be destroying his future in the process.

JPJ could be solely responsible……….

BUT

Me thinks there is a family member involved as well and whispering in his ear………

Salute the nation

All I know is, I couldn't care one way or another at this point. I understand both sides. To me, the tell tale for JPJr is that nobody is blowing up Kahn's phone for a trade (I would wonder if Detroit would come sniffing after getting that torched last night). Also, the Steelers, I can't blame them either. Why pay someone 30+ million/year when next season you can franchise tag for around 23-25 million. To me, it's a financial no brainer.

Maybe a former head coach too?
However you would think that said family member and said former coach would remember how a similar situation worked out for Lev Bell.
I can’t come down too hard on players not holding up their end of a contract when the teams don’t have to hold up their end but if he doesn’t like it then he should take it up with his shop steward Cam Heyward. Slotted rookie contracts and franchise tags are what your union agreed to.

Porter and his “back” are back on the injury list. This is some tiresome bullshit. Put his *** on the injured-reserve.
Not sure how it works regarding making sure if bedoesnt play due to contract then this season wouldn't count. But if he's put on IR, the season counts?

Correct.

This could be a very tricky IR designation. If he isn't truly injured, the Steelers could be in a pickle, however, they can only go off of what their physicians and the player tell them. However, if this continues to 'linger' or go on, I wouldn't blame them for putting him on IR-but this would cover 4 weeks. This could also bite JPJr in the arse next season. All the PS would need to do is franchise tag him.

Yes, and we add to them annually. Again, the difference for the Rooney's is the Steelers are their sole source of income. The "value" of the team is meaningless unless they are selling or borrowing against it. is imaginary money Unless you want to be like a certain party and tax unrealized net gains and net worth.
This is a business decision. That is my point.

The Steelers ownership, collectively and including the Rooneys, the McGinleys, the Stallworths, etc. have all decided to remove profits at a level they choose and to approve any borrowing. That is 100% their call on how they run their business.

They could borrow or they could retain profits to handle escrow needs, like other teams.

They choose not to. Business decision that puts them at a competitive disadvantage for player negotiations.

The longer he goes without playing the worse it will be for him next year.
JPJ’s 2027 contract negotiation:
Khan Man: “Lessee Joey, before we give you a franchise tag, what were your stats last season? Hmmm… passes defended 0. Interceptions 0. Tackles 0. Penalties 0, well at least that’s an improvement. Tell ya what, we’ll give you a non-exclusive tag so anyone can sign you and we get a draft pick, of course that might not be for as much as last year since you were on IR with your hurt butt, err I mean back, last year.”

They were not cheap with Bell, they offered him top dollar, they just didn't guarantee enough for his liking. See my discussion with Avoid Lloyd. Steelers stars tend to get their money guarantees or not.
The Steelers forced Polamalu to retire or be cut so they wouldn't have to honor the last 2 years of his contract.
Fact
Literally one of the greatest Steelers to ever wear the Black and Gold.
Did him dirty

It sounds like you are playing both ends just to criticize Rooney

They kept a near paralyzed Shazier on the roster to get him enough seasons to get into Vested Vet Programs... that meant still paying him and keeping him on PUP..

I mean, they haven't really been shady ********. They just werent total saps when AB wanted to renegotiate every offseason or Bell turned down the contract he wanted a season before and lost millions because of it.
I call it like it is
They forced Troy out to avoid honoring the final 2 years of his contract. Fact

Both sides have handled this horribly. That being said, if the Steelers cave here take a lowball offer it sets a bad precedent. it's already gone too far, they might as well ride it out and tag him next year. Anything less than a 1st is a huge failure by Khan. Put him on IR or file a grievance and force Joey to prove the injury.

Also... It's time for the Steelers to evolve and get rid of this dumbass policy when it comes to negotiations.

Troy was done. He had declined rapidly. It was a crappy situation as Troy is one of the all time greats, but he was just not good anymore. A better comparison would be Woodson. He went on to have a few more good years after leaving, but he also went to safety. When Jerry Rice declined teams were not going to pay him just because he is Jerry Rice and arguably the greatest WR ever. The Steelers have not been cheap with guys. I just don't see Porter as that great. Someone said he is like Ike which i agree with. He is a very solid corner, but not a game changer.

so now they are saying he rejected the Steelers offer because it wasn't 30M+ but it was a top 10 CB offer, so maybe 25/27M ? Then also is the guaranteed issue...

This whole situation sucks badly, maybe we should've seen the signs when the FO drafted Everett, they might have known something already

I don’t agree at all based on the financials as I understand them. One more time for those that missed it the other 5 times. Other owners have other sources of revenue outside the team. The Steelers and Bengals don’t.

The owners of the bears and lions are having significantly more success than Rooney in the past 10 years and are in the the range of his net worth. Your argument of net worth limiting Rooneys ability to compete and sign players has been debunked with your own article
How so? Are they not worth more and have outside revenue streams?

Troy had lost a step or two his last two years and was collecting a crap-ton of PI and holding penalties. It was time for him to get on with his life’s work.

Fully agree Ron, The player’s union is there for a reason.

I wonder how much actual players petition that union for actual help ?

I also wonder just how many players actually look at and read the full contract of the union (them to fully understand it would be asking a bit much).

Salute the nation.

What happens if the Steelers put him on the non-football related injury list, and I can only assume his injury (cough) is just that, does he still get a game check?

Troy was done and Joey will never be worth #1 CB money. I agree. I don't want JPJ to get a contract he doesn't deserve.
Some posters on here seem to think The Steelers never play dirty with not honoring contracts. Was just reminding people how they did Troy dirty with 2 years left on his contract.
