Jacoby Jones claimed; Archer released

I think this situation tells us one thing and one thing very clearly.

Mike Tomlin is an AVID follower of my twitter account and he listens to me implicitly.

I feel pretty darn important all of a sudden.

Unclaimed off waivers from Steelers: Dri Archer

That's pretty sad. He might not get a look until the offseason.

I hope Dri banked most of his third round money.

This is all you need to know about our talent evaluation. Grant wasn't claimed either (4th round). Neither was Chickillo when he was released.

It's not just their failure here. That sometimes means your roster is deep with talent. When they get released and die on the branch and never make an active roster again, that's just bad scouting.

How about the players that were signed off the practice squad by other teams in recent years? Grant was nearly signed, that's why he was brought up to the active roster.
Only the bad picks are the ones that matter it seems.
Every team has players who don't make the team and then aren't picked up.

What about the the two defensive linemen and the one guard who who snatched up right away last year when we tried to sneak them onto the practice squad?

Catch 22. If they are signed off of the practice squad it was bad coaching and talent evaluation that let a valuable commodity go. If they aren't signed it was bad coaching and talent evaluation for taking players no one wanted.....

I understand the joy of Dri finally being gone, but Jones has looked even worse.

When getting rid of a 3rd rounder for a fading vet with even worse averages is a good move it really makes me question our FO. We must be grading on a severe curve here.

***** just to *****. Question this...question that. Dri Archer was a total loss of a draft pick. They gave him a shot. Probably longer than they should of. They brought in a vet to take his place at returning 2 or 3 KO's a game. Dri was lucky to get the ball back to the 20 most of the time. If our new OLD guy just takes a knee we should be good. But hey. Go ahead and question this move. In my opinion it should of been made a LONG time ago.

Not bitching just to *****, with the talent level of this team we should be able to do better than addition through subtraction. If they feel we need to upgrade returner great! Then upgrade the returner, don't give us a guy trending down with worse numbers to replace a guy who is improving and has a higher ceiling.

I didn't like the Dri pick, but this is a rather weak move which fans are giving an A to, so judging from past experience it DOES seem we are grading on a very weak curve.

Hope Jones does a better job, have to wait and see... But I for 1 will see this move as the C it is until proven otherwise

Do you think all other teams in the league hit on all their draft picks? The coaches and GM see talent in players and have an idea of how to use their skills to help the team.. sometimes it doesn't work. Actually, when you're talking rounds 4-7, it usually doesn't work out as far as being a key player. I didn't like Dri in the 3rd but he had speed and I thought he would be dangerous with the ball, he never showed the kind of burst we all hoped for and it didn't work out.
Getting Cockrell makes this pick somewhat of a wash IMO.

Yes every team has picks that don't work out. Spending a 3rd on a guy to return kicks and little chance of starting is just dumb. Sign a free agent to return kicks. Use your 3rd found pick on someone that can possibly be a starter.

Just tell him coach is back to talk about rivers. I thought he could play. TMC did not.

so yinz finally got one right then?

I said I didn't like Dri in the 3rd, I agree. Spending any pick on a kick returner is stupid IMO. It has become an irrelevant position in the NFL.

Until about mid-November. When it gets cold, it can become relevant again.
