Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

I think the main reason people try to defend Archer is because there are some on here that will nick pick every Tomlin failure there is. Even though every HC most likely has had some sort of similar failure at one point in time if they have had an extended coaching tenure.

WTF is a nick pick?

Being critical and calling someone retarded is two different things you insensitive ****. Some members may have family members who are on the spectrum or other disabilities who take issue with the labeling of people as retarded. Now who's the dumb ****.

And like I said his decision to not accept affects your ****** *** how?? Oh it doesn't.

Don't bring that politically correct **** in here...there's enough of it out there already.

It's politically correct to be a decent human being and respect other people..my son is autistic and I take offense to calling anyone retarded

If you take offense, than you are taking things TOO LITERAL! No one is talking about your son, in fact, no one knew that about your son until JUST NOW...

NEWSFLASH: Autism and retardation are not the same.

I feel for you and your son, fully heartedly. I mean that. BUT, when I refer to someone as retarded, that someone is the one i'm reffering to, NOT you or your son. Remeber that along the path of life, it'll make it a little easier. I have all kinds of challenges and challenged people in my life. When I talk to a challenged (several close friends) person about this very topic, they say what I just conveyed to you. Know who the speaker is speaking of (context), that makes life much easier. Not minimalizing you or your son, but just think about this in earnest.

I asked my daughter and she said the best she can come up with is "a two sided knitting needle with a wooden handle" LOL

NOW, about Archer,............. He is playing it out as he see's fit. He truely believes he has a better shot at getting on the field if on a 53 man roster. If to a practice squad, the team gets to "preview" his abilities. Either way he may be screwed...........

And that is the point. I'm not coming down on you because of it, I'm educating you on their effects.

Much like our parents and grandparents used to use the N word all the time, nonchalantly, you don't hear it much anymore. Do you? When you hear it now, it's usually the uneducated and overt racists that use it.

Sure I've seen it on the board too, but just because some posters use it, doesn't make it acceptable. This time it came up and a discussion formed around it.

Words have power, and sometimes it's better to educate yourself and understand their effects instead of dismissing it.

Not for nothing, I hear the N word EVERY SINGLE DAY. Words have power when you give them power, just because someone might say my mother is a ***** doesn't make it so, it also doesn't make me go off the handle and freak out...stick and stones. That's whats wrong with today, it's not the words themselves, but how people are programmed to react to them. Long gone are the days of sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me, and it's sad and pathetic.

Sorry you're just wrong. Talk about obtuse, you saying that DeCastro or Faneca dropped because of position when you don't know that at all. You're just moving the needle. You have no idea why they fell. Archer was small, injury prone, short and should never have been drafted. Taking a KR with those issues is just stupid.

Also you deciding that there are no huge reaches in the 3rd round is only an opinion and has no bases in fact.

So a prospect of Faneca's or DeCastro's pedigree at a different position (QB, LT, CB) lasts as long as they did? When draft analyst produce ratings "regardless of position" they are wasting their time? If an OG and QB have the same rating, it's a toss-up who gets drafted first?

Look at anyone's rankings of the Top 100 or Top 150 players from any year and then see how many in the Top 10, or 20 or 30 lasted well past their projection, and then do the same for the ones 90 and after, and then explain to me how differences of opinion are not much greater between the two.

I wonder if that exchange was enough to get this abomination of a thread closed... Archer ain't a steeler any more.. It's done... Someone can start a new thread if he has success elsewhere to rub it in our faces.. End this please

You're not going to offend me. I'm as thick skinned as they come, from the sticks and stones generation.

I also understand that times change, and working in the marketing/promotions industry, If I used any of those words, I'd lose clients and ultimately my business. Is it right? Don't I have protection of free speech? Sure, I'm not going to jail for the things I say, but I'd be poor real quick if I spout insensitive nonsense. It's why reporters get suspended/fired for what they say or tweet.

I've been guilty of typing the same stuff a decade ago, but I grew up, and know better how to articulate my arguments.

You're likening a profession to a goddamned internet forum. That's not analogous at all.

Well, does anybody think it will snow tomorrow????? If it does, how would Mr. Archer fare, in the snow. Some players, like the "BUS" thrived in snow conditions. Maybe Archer would to?? Personally, I think he'd spin out a lot and just not find the room to run. His change of direction would be greatly hindered and overall speed deminished. ANY thoughts on this????

**** that ******.
Wait. That's not allowed anymore huh

So now your moving from the actual players to the position as a whole? You said DeCastro and Faneca. Now you want to include the entire history of drafts at every position? Fact is you don't know why they dropped. Manziel dropped, Rodgers dropped, but that doesn't mean they dropped because they are QBs. You don't know so stop acting like you do.

FACT is that a guy playing KR in today's NFL is worth almost nothing. They are phasing out KRs all together. So a small, short, injury prone, no vision kicker returner that can play no other position is worthless. You can ***** about it all you want but that's the reality of it. He was a reach and many said so at the time. He was a wasted pick.

Archer was a bad pick. No question.

However, let's look at it in it's totality. I know it's early, but it's looks like they got hits on the 1st, 2nd and 4th rounders, but missed on the 3rd. Means they are hitting .750 over the first 4 rounds. That ain't bad, is it? In baseball they'd be a ******' first ballot HOFer. Perhaps some perspective is needed.

Vader is right, though. In today's game, picking a KR specialist is just stupid. Might as well pick a drop kick specialist in the 3rd.

the issue with the Archer pick has never been that they didn't "hit" on the pick. The issue has been the position they tried to address with the pick. Had the team drafted a CB in the third and missed on that, there would be less uproar over the pick because they at least selected a position this team was in need of. KR as Vader pointed out is a worthless position in today's NFL, and with a team that was as loaded as we were on offense already, a luxury pick on a KR was a big waste.

Maybe slightly less uproar.....nahhhh!!

It was about position (and round) as soon as you compared the Archer pick to picking a punter or long snapper in the 1st round. What's so hard to follow about that? I mentioned Faneca and DeCastro because many argued the Steelers (or any team) shouldn't use first round picks on OGs.

"some" may argue it but I don't remember too many on here complaining about either. I sure don't remember anyone saying they were good players but that OG shouldn't be selected in the first round. None of that was the case here. There is a difference between specialty players like KRs, PR, punters, LS etc.. and starting player positions. Do you really not know that?

I know that, but it's a false premise. The intention was not to only use him as a KR. They did try to incorporate him into the offense.
