I have maintained this my entire adult life from Noll to Cowher to Tomlin. The execution of the team on game wins/losses is 90% players and 10% coach. The coaches put in the gameplans the week leading up to the game. They have to make some adjustments during the game and reinforce what they worked on all week. That's your 10%. The other 90% is catching the ball, throwing accurate passes, not fumbling the ball, not throwing interceptions, blocking the guy you are supposed to block, beating the man across the ball from you, maintaining you focus, keeping your cool, not making stupid penalties......I could go on all day.
I will never be able to take these threads seriously with the over the top gnashing of teeth and chest beating that this coach needs fired and that coach needs fired whenever the team plays like ****. The heart and soul of the team and leaders are the guys wearing numbers on their backs, not the guys holding clipboards. If guys are ******* up left and right, no amount of game planning, "coaching up" or pep talks are going to fix it. ******* execute, win the individual battles on the field and don't make stupid ******* decisions. That's football....period.
