Rookie Dri Archer is the Steelers' secret weapon
http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.co...2467/dri-archer-is-the-steelers-secret-weapon

When discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense, they have plenty of weapons at their disposal. Ben Roethlisberger has proven his worth time and time again, Le'Veon Bell is becoming a household name and Antonio Brown is a Pro Bowler.

Even with all the firepower on the Steelers' offense, the unit has a trick up their sleeve. A secret weapon. That weapon would be rookie speedster Dri Archer.

Archer is an unknown commodity to NFL teams, and that is exactly what the Steelers are looking to exploit this season starting Sunday when the Cleveland Browns come to Heinz Field. Archer has made some tremendous plays with his 4.26 40-yard dash speed this preseason, but how the Steelers utilize him is rather unknown.

Not ones to tip their hands, head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Todd Haley surely have a plan to exploit defenses with Archer and his physical capabilities.

All Archer needs is the football in hands and a glimmer of daylight and he is off to the races, as was on display this preseason. If teams want to load the box to stop the run, get Archer to the outside with a sweep or a swing pass and all he needs to do is beat the outside pass rusher and it could be 6 points for the Steelers.

Archer can be just as deadly in the passing game. The Steelers deployed a '5 wide' offensive set several times this preseason, and were successful within the formation. When Archer is lined up in, or motions to, the slot position the defense is forced to account for him with either a linebacker or a safety.

In other words, there is a mismatch somewhere on the field when the Steelers deploy such a formation with Archer in the slot. Archer would draw enough attention that it would have to take attention away from their best offensive weapon in Antonio Brown.

Will Archer be an every down player? Not a chance, but will he make an impact when he steps on the field? Without a doubt.

Archer will demand attention from the defense, and will cause disruption even without the football. That is just a glimpse of how the Steelers could use their 'secret weapon' in this 2014 NFL season.

Sorry Tibs its been established that no one is going to pay attention to this pip-squeak

I dunno how he can be a secret weapon when his HOF bust is nearly finished.

Someone tell me again whose attention-whoring is keeping this thread alive.. ?

I, too, wish people would stop being so excited about a new dynamic to our offense.

But it's not unknown. The entire article is about how even the author knows. He's going to be used in space on trick plays and screens.

Yes, except he never did this during pre-season. Not ONE time did he run as being described. He had 6 carries for 18 years or 3 YPC.

Archer can be just as deadly in the passing game. The Steelers deployed a '5 wide' offensive set several times this preseason, and were successful within the formation. When Archer is lined up in, or motions to, the slot position the defense is forced to account for him with either a linebacker or a safety.

"Just as deadly"? He did do **** in the running game but when you need to make someone look good then I guess bullshit is the media's makeup. Even his receiving numbers were against vanilla defenses. Hell Bryant had 6 catches for 68 yards or 11.3 YPC. Brown had 7 catches for 173 or 24.7 YPC. These are over inflated and won't transfer to the regular season. Archer had 108 yards on 8 catches for 13.5 YPC.

Also this "match up" problem is par for the course for any defense. AB is a huge match up problem. Miller is a match up problem. DHB is a huge match up problem even though he's sucked every where he has been. The problem with Archer the only part of his skill set that is a match up problem is his speed. Not his size, strength, or pass catching ability. Just his speed. The idea that defenses are going to relax against Brown to cover Archer is ******* laughable. They aren't going to double Archer. They aren't going to roll coverage his way.

They got something right. No he is not an every down player. Will he make an impact when he steps on the field? They have no idea. In preseason he had 2 good catches against vanilla defenses. Other than that he didn't do anything. But somehow he is going to make an impact when he steps on the field.... except when he doesn't. Like all the times he ran the ball and got stoned.

Just seems like more rah rah stuff from the local media. I read the same "evaluations" when Rainey was here. Almost word for word.

I, too, wish people would stop being so excited about a new dynamic to our offense.

So much so that they dredge up The Most Infamous Thread In Board History from about Page 5. All to post a pretty much identical article to the 40 or 50 already posted in it.

Yeah, Tibs just wanted to get the word out. FINALLY, we're discussing Archum, or whatever his name is!

"Media" is a hearty term for behindthesteelcurtain.com

Again, I'm ready to read Archer's mom's scouting report.

LOL. I can't wait to see safeties furiously shifting away from Antonio Brown to go double up on Dri Archer.

good night.

all he did was post something relevant to Archer and the beginning of the season in ... the thread regarding Archer.
Some people may be interested in reading it.

Some, most obviously not.

1. This thread has roughly 20K "Archer is fast" articles from the local Pittsburgh media. Tibs knows this; he's posted about 5k of them.

2. This thread died - or so it seemed - quite some time ago. Tibs knows this.

Idioteque, since anything and everything related to Dri Archer clearly gets your panties all bunched-up, this would've been a perfect opportunity for you to not click on the thread, as you could have easily deducted there'd be something posted here concerning Archer. I'm dumbfounded how much angst you still have bottled-up inside of you regarding a Steelers player, a rookie to boot, who will be taking the field for the first time in a few, short days. The good Lord strike us down for having the audacity to discuss his prospects and to share articles about him.

If Gilbert, the Clowns' first round DB who couldn't tackle me on the field, has to cover Archer, then it's going to be a TD for Archer! I am really looking forward to seeing how we line Archer up and use him to exploit the defense.

well, I guess you shouldn't post anything about any Steelers player ever again.

I'm going to go start a "Is Ben overrated?" or "Is Troy over the hill?" thread. Ya know, something new and fresh. I'll probably post an article by Ben's high school coach or something.

Then I'm going to fan my pussyhurt flames when I get called out for being a ****-stirrer.

Which I've admitted to being anyway.

yeah, because THAT is the same thing.

seriously, if you're tired of reading about Archer in ONE thread, don't open it.

Yet YOU still came back into it to reply to it?!?!

You don't see the hypocrisy in that, eh?!

LMAO!

Over/Under Dri Archer 50 yards of total offense.

Over/Under Dri Archer 100 yards in punt and kick returns.

I am goinging Over on Offense and Under on return yardage.

Archer's 2014 totals 5 Td's one of which comes from a return. 600 combined yards rushing and receiving.

I'd say almost definitely the Under on PR/KR. Looks like it was game 6 or 7 last year before the team as a whole broke 100 on that.

Guys we shouldnt be still posting in this thread.

Anyway I hope to see him more decisive on punt returns. He should have better blocks now that the starting special teams units are out there. Should be more cohesion.

****, I said I wasn't posting back in here till after the season, but then you ******* have to go and get everyone all stirred up. Well, I guess the season starts tonight officially, so it's close enough.

I say 300 or more pages by seasons end, think I'm high or low?

This thing is going to dwarf the Gildong report.

Joe

Probably, because you would then have to fan your pussyhurt when no one played your little game.

The internets is not your friend today. My question was not yes/no. And it was in response to a statement I didn't make.

Oh whoopsie!
