Mike Tomlin and the "who would replace him" meme

We could hire God to coach this team, but it will be without Ben soon. So, no one will look good until we find that next great QB.

I would argue that Tomlin looked better than he is so far because of Ben. Without him we are onto the next coach(s).

I'm not advocating re-hiring Bill Cohwer but think about this. Bill had a VERRY competitive team even without BEN. Had Bill stayed I bet we would have at least 1 more SB than O'l what's his name currently coaching............. It appears as though Cohwer may have forgotten more about adjustments than Mike currently knows.

I do think you can win consistently without a "franchise" QB. You have to be a team where everyone, but especially the QB, makes few mistakes and have an above the line D that keeps you in the game. For this to work, though, I think you do have to have an outstanding RB and, at least one, well above the line chain-mover type WR that can help keep the QB out of trouble.

So, what seems to be our problem???????

We have a franchise QB and we run the game thru him..and he hasnt been sharp

if yinz think Ben is the only problem

I got some bad news forya

i certainly wouldn't be mad if the team decided to go in a different direction on head coach, soon after acquiring our next franchise signal caller. don't think it'll happen, but it wouldnt hurt my feelings, that's fa damn sho

So once again, coaches have NO responsibility or accountability for anything in your eyes.

You guys can run with that nonsense all you want..when you find one post of me crediting the coaches for any win let me know

And again doesn't paint yinz on a impressive picture. Because you are a less than one percent that cant seem to grasp the simplest of concepts.

As both are responsible for wins and losses.

But too many losses and a coach takes a hit for not being able to put the team in the best positions to win.

But Cowher!!!!

Coach Cowher had journeyman quarterback's throughout his tenure except the last couple of years when they found Ben. Tomlin could not do what Coach Cowher did. Tomlin would not have the record he has now save for the fact that he has had a Hall of Fame level quarterback his entire tenure as a head coach. But now Bens abilities are starting to fade a little bit and Tomlin is starting to be exposed. If Ben experiences a bigger drop off in his skills or retires next year we can expect four or five wins out of Tomlin coached teams.

Tomlin was just extended so he isn't going anywhere. Quit dreaming. The only shot we have of any change is if Tomlin is told to make a change at one or both of the coordinator positions.

1. So if a fan with an opinion on a coach cannot name someone that YOU deem as a better option that means that there is no better coach out there. Once again, nobody knew who Cowher or Tomlin was before they were hired either.

2. So now we can discredit a coach because he has a good QB, well **** Bill Walsh and Don Shula then too. All of the Tomlin supporters say it's bogus when people point out that Tomlin inherited a gold mine of a team and had success, but now that is your excuse for why other coaches are overrated...can you spell hypocrisy?

3. I ***** about a team that now after 10 years is consistently under performing, that comes out flat in almost every game. I ***** about a team that the leader left a decision that affects the image and perception of the franchise up to a player vote instead of being the leader and making a decision and expecting his men to follow his order. I ***** about a coach that is either directly or indirectly approving game plans that play into other teams strengths rather than their weaknesses. I ***** about a team that is so undisciplined we continue to get costly penalties at an alarming rate. I ***** about a team that lacks leadership to a degree that we have players doing facebook live feeds in the locker room when the coach is talking, getting suspended for drug related issues, players more concerned with social media then improving their game. I ***** about a team that was expected to compete for a SB this year that has played abysmal thru 5 games, an OL that is woefully under performing, a RB that wants $15 mil. a year that skips all of camp and is now inconsistent on the field, a QB that is under performing, a team that right now has 1 consistent WR, a defense that is in the bottom 10 in the league against the run, a team that while getting your *** kicked thinks it is a great idea to celebrate a tackle after you just gave up another first down, I ***** in general that this is a team that is undisciplined, unfocused, and lacks leadership. I am sure that Tomlin will unleash hell here soon when they go back to the lab. and continue to do the same damn thing again and expect a different outcome

4. I don't want Cowher back at all, his coaching ship has long sailed, but thinking that there is no young X and O's coach that is more authoritarian out there that can replace Tomlin is ridiculous. But feel free to make mass generalizations about everyone that disagrees with your assessment of Tomlin.

5. Since your think Tomlin is irreplaceable, answer these questions: a) What areas of this team are BETTER now than the team that he took over? b) What is our identity as a team, offensively or defensively?

The answer to those questions is a joke.
Where are all these asinine complaints when the team wins??? Naysayers ***** because of a LOSE. Newsflash - NOT ONE DAMN TEAM HAS BEEN UNDEFEATED IN 45 FACKIN' YEARS!!! Teams will continue to lose and win games.

Ark is right - and you're comment has some merit - but if you can't provide a "name" why start the conversation???

Move on - it's Chiefs week.

But Cowher!!!!

Coach Cowher had journeyman quarterback's throughout his tenure except the last couple of years when they found Ben.

See, this is the issue. Cowher, essentially, was forced to take Ben. Doesn't Cowher bear some responsibility for having ****** QB's?

That and running off his OC's every other year. Cowher wanted Carson Palmer, who wouldn't have been bad, just not as good as Ben.

I don't think Coach Cowher wanted the QBs he had over others. He took what was available, and the mindset was go with a veteran. And honestly I had never heard of Ben and can't blame Cowher for wanting Palmer instead. I looked Ben up, saw he came out of Miami of Ohio and thought that they had wasted a draft pick on a scrub out of a second tier school.

How many seasons did it take for Cohwer to win a SB once BEN arrived............??? Had Cowher stayed I bet we would have MORE super bowl wins than with our current coaching staff, in the same time frame.

I dunno, the next season with substantially the same team they went 8-8.

I nhear what you're saying but Ben face planted a windshield, Bill's wife's cancer, SB hang over................. I bet if he stayed the very next year he contended and won at least two more in the time Omar has been here.

What does this mean? If he didn't want them why didn't he get someone else?

Cowher made the dumb ******* decision to play Kordell at QB! That was his choice. It was his own fault for 6 years.

Yeah, sort of. Except that Ben planted his face on a windshield, and then had an appendectomy, which I submit had a serious effect on his abilities at QB.
