Ben Roethlisberger: Don't plan on Mason Rudolph replacing me for a while

I think it was pretty much the time that haley left is when he came out and said he wanted to play a 3 more years or so.

Yes for the record, history went this way :

Before 2017 season - Ben : Thinking about retirement. Got a family. Gotta worry about toll football is taking on my body. Etc.
Haley is fired after 2017 season - Ben : Realistically, I'd like to play until my contract expires, another 3 years or so.
After drafting QB highest since we drafted Ben - Ben : Hope Mason likes the pine in his hands and on his arse because I'm playing another 5 years.

I potentially see a Drew Bledsoe / Tom Brady situation playing out. NOT saying Ben is same type QB as Bledsoe. NOT saying Mason is on level with Brady.
Saying in a year or two, Mason my be more athletic and more capable of helping us win than Ben.
From all accounts, Mason LOVES him some football, is a gym rat, IS all about being first in/last out for practice, will study the playbook in his free time, and bug coaches endlessly with questions.
I think Ben knows this and for the first time he's looking over his shoulder.

He did. Sammy just lacked fight, hands, and the ability to run good routes.

And Sammy had that incident with his finger, I think that played with his head.

Just a injury causing a unexpected outcome.

Roethlisberger criticizes decision to draft Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be the starter for however long he desires, but he's not exactly thrilled about his newest competition.

Roethlisberger was considering retirement prior to the 2017 season but told the Steelers in January that he plans to play for the foreseeable future.

The team selected fellow quarterback Mason Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and Roethlisberger was unimpressed and a bit dismayed by the pick.

"I was surprised when they took a quarterback because I thought that maybe in the third round, you can get some really good football players that can help this team now," Roethlisberger told "Cook and Poni" of KDKA Pittsburgh on Friday. "And nothing against Mason, I think he's a great football player ... I just don't know how backing up or being the third guy, who knows where he's going to fall on the depth chart ... helps us win now."

Roethlisberger added that he feels "the worst" for the Steelers' backup quarterbacks, Joshua Dobbs and Landry Jones.

"I'll be honest, I wasn't worried about (Rudolph) coming and taking my job," Roethlisberger said. "I feel confident that I can go out and beat whoever I need to beat out for my job. ... I do feel bad for those guys.

"I don't know what's going to happen. I assume Landry's still the two, I don't really know. And Josh, same thing. Last year you take him in the fourth round, so does that mean the Steelers screwed up in that pick? Like do they think that he wasn't the one that they thought, or has he not developed the way they thought? Why else would you take a quarterback in the third round the next year?"

Ben said immediately after the Jags game that he wanted to play at least 3 more seasons before Haley was ever fired.

If Ben is still playing in 2 years, Rudolph is not beating him out.

Rudolph isn't beating out Ben🙄

That last article.....Ben is an *******. Phenomenal football player but with comments of "maybe I'll just point to the aybook". What a dick. But not surprising. He's always been an arrogant prick. What the hell would be say that for? He's such a child. He has nothing to worry about unless hesucks and then whose fault is it then if he's replaced. Why don't you be a gym rat Ben? Your surely not chiseled. Why don't you be a film junkie? What a dick

Ben said already he'd help him all he could, Rudolph sounded like a douchebag when asked what it would be like to learn from Ben, he said it's not Ben's job to teach me anything.
Yeah let's nut hug the 3rd rounder who has never won anything and continue to ***** about the franchise QB

I think it is classic media trying to hype up something that will be a non story.

If this makes Ben uncomfy? no biggie... motivation is always a positive tool.

As far as any of the QBs Steelers aren't there to make you feel better about yourself. They are trying to sharpen that knife for now and the future.

Competition always brings out the best. And they got rid of a malcontent at WR and some deadwood at S.

I like the direction this club is heading..........

No, that is the spirit of competition...I DID THE SAME TO THE ROOKIES AT MY SALES JOB, when I was a player only....Come take my job & position ....They can learn by watching me.....Plus I spent hours watching film, listening to audio books, reading Sales books. i felt they should do the same

Now as Sales Manager these days I HAVE TO train the new kids....But I make money off every dollar they make....

Ben has something to live for, keep his freakin' job....Now Ben does feel threatened. THAT IS A GOOD THING. Bet Ben comes to camp in good shape....watch...

His recent comments definitely suggest that. And it's a good thing he doesn't feel comfy. As someone around the facility always likes to say "iron sharpens iron".

Read the second article.....if you can't read that he's being g a dick than you are basically his bathroom ***** or something. He was not being gracious or humble at all. I am referring to the comments he made on his talk show

The thing is, some folks are taking Rudolph's comment out of context/proportion. So Rudolph said it's not Ben's job to teach him, it's his (Rudolph's) job to get in the playbook and learn. Tell me, where is the kid wrong? As a rookie, it IS his freakin job to learn the playbook, watch film, observe Ben and ask questions (of the QB Coach/OC first and then possibly Ben). Whether Ben chooses to mentor him or not, if he takes that approach, he's off to a good start.

So far we've learned Ben cannot throw WRs open, can't throw a deep ball, and now he's not supposed to have a competitive fire inside him.

Beyond that, this is Ben being Ben. I don't know why anyone ever gets worked up over anything he says.
Like I said for some unknown reason fans and media of this team love to ***** about the starting QB going all the way back to Bradshaw

Yep. He's being a little bit petty and is just flapping his gums. He'll come around like he always does.
I'd rather he answer the questions than give these politically correct fluff answers. Fans always ***** about Tomlin and his pressers because he never answers a damn thing.

Maybe because everything doesnt deserve to be answered..now Mason has to answer questions all summer about this..what did he do but be drafted?

Not to mention, Ben wasn't saying anything about someone helping us now last year with the 4th round pick. He's being extremely petty, and it's because he can see the difference between the 2 QBs already on the roster and Rudolph, the other 2 we're never threats to replace him, this kid is and he's acting like he didn't talk about retirement so all of a sudden we're supposed to not take the best QB on the board. Stop being petty about the pick and just go play football.

We will really miss ben when he is gone. I don't think he has ever gotten the love he deserves

I love Ben, but I also have no bones about calling him out when he's being a petty drama queen

No one was saying the 4th round pick last year was going to be Ben's replacement either.

Ben didn't say anything negative toward Rudolph personally just he was surprised they drafted a QB in the 3rd instead of someone to help now.

He said after the draft he'd do everything he could to help Rudolph, but let's ignore that.

No one's ignoring anything, or are you ignoring the part in the interview where Ben rags on Rudolph's comment about it not being Ben's job to help him, and Ben says maybe when he asks a question I'll just point to the playbook. I assume he said this jokingly, but the whole interview about Rudolph comes across as Ben feeling threatened as compared to previous QBs we've brought in, and he was behaving in a petty manner. Defend it all you want, no one's nut hugging the rookie, and no one is saying it's time to move on from Ben. He was acting petty, and it does nothing to help the team, nor does it help the atmosphere of the QB room. Pointing that out has apparently upset you, most are just saying it wasn't necessary nor useful
