The most intimidating Steelers of all time

I sure have. Different mentality getting hit at the LOS than behind the front seven. No doubt Deebo and Lloyd had impact, but Troy and Ryan roaming free in the zones had many receivers thinking Alligator Arms. To say Polamalu didn’t have the same type of impact is ignorant.

Straw man argument. I said TP didn't "intimidate" in the same way as 95 and 92. Don't be afraid of education.

Troy was a heat-seeking missile with absolutely no regard for his own body.

I don't know how anybody could say he wasn't intimidating.

Straw man. No one said he wasn't, just not in the same fashion or degree as Lloyd, Harrison, Lambert or Greene.

Straw man.

Straw man.

Troy was a GREAT player who should be first ballot HOFer but intimidating, probably not what most would put in that category. Lloyd, Harrison and Lambert are all up there but I have to go with Lambert back in the day. Dude was just a maniac on the field. Even big RB's like Earl Campbell didn't like playing him.

Again - your interpretation of "intimidate" is ONE-SIDED. You asked for our opinions of 'whom' we thought was intimidating. My answer was TROY P and you scoffed at the fact. Typical...

Named my first born son after him. yeeeeesh. Hope you are right. Violence is beautiful on Sunday Football. Not so much in the real world. Hope it doesn't end tragically for him. CTE wouldn't be a real shocker, but I think that was pretty much always the way he was. Its not a light switch for some guys. I played coached with a few guys like that. Some were just animals on the field and could tone that down off the field. Some were what you see is what you got.

Was gonna say, Greg Lloyd is one of those guys who doesn't have an off switch.

Noted. Intimidation does NOT only mean "big hitter". Intimidation means "where is dat dude" at all times he's on the field??? Name ONE QB or DC who 'didn't care where TP was when he was on the field (and as I said - in his prime)???

I'm not trying to blast you TDX - this one is really for #PopDatBoobie...

I was gonna say, he was just as nasty off the field. One of the sportswriters said even the Steelers office staff, secretaries, etc. were afraid of him, he was nasty to all those people too.

Hell, Cowher was afraid of him. And thinking about Cowher, remember when Deebo got a holding call (or something) on STs and came to the sidelines and Cowher says "They got you Silverback" and he just snarled "**** happens". Cowher didn't say a word after that.

While Bettis and Ward looked on from a safe distance giggling like school kids, lol. Too damn funny.

Typical hatespeak by a non-fan...not surprised...obviously, you have never been plowed over by Troy. 215 lbs. running a 4.3 can inflict serious damage.

To wit;

Watching the clip I glanced numerous times at what point in the game that Troy was making a play. Amazing how many times it was late in the fourth quarter and the play stopped a drive where a score would have put the Steelers behind.

Ha, I don't remember seeing them. Now I'm gonna have to try & find this video clip.

I can't remember which highlight film is was from, but Cowher was talking to Ward and Bettis while Silverback was playing. The refs throw the flag and Cowher kinda gets pissed and then dreads having to say something to him

Because "Pop Dat Boobie" thinks I don't know football...

Hi,.......My name is "football" and YOU definately know me..!!!

Salute the nation

It’s not a straw man argument. It’s as I said, TP intimidation wasn’t like Deebo or Lloyd’s who made plays around the LOS. Which you just repeated as “I didn’t say it was the same way....”

Your initial post phrased it as hard “hitting”, but now you use the term intimidate. The term is different for those players because their collisions were different in the way they were hitting. Linemen, backs, etc. at the LOS. Troy could and did lay out anyone anywhere on the field. Clark too on occasion.

So go stuff your straw man doll with more nonsense. If I had your level of education I would definitely be afraid of embarrassment. Fortunately, it’s easy to tell I passed your level a very long time ago.

Greg Lloyd and it probably isn't that close. Problem being is that he was legit scary/crazy as proven by his post football life.

Mean Joe or Lambert......hell Jack would try to bite off fingers that got into his facemask when they were in a pile

and Troy did plenty of intimidating. QBs never knew where he was coming from and if he would just dive over the line to kill the play...and Clark ****** up a lot of wrs coming across the middle

You know exactly what I'm talking about. Lloyd and Harrison may kill you. (OK, not with the rules today.)

This is zero denigration to Troy. But in all seriousness, if you took a poll of Steeler fans, of who the top Steeler intimidators were, how do you think that list goes?

They put your debate out to pasture but by all means keep flailing those arms. Troy was a SS different body type. So obviously a Lber could be viewed by people as more intimidating. But the reality of it is Troy was intimidating , would give QBs nightmares. Who gives a **** if he is number 1 or 4 on a list. It doesn't change who he was or how he played. As with a reckless abandon.

No doubt. QB's had to know where Troy was on every play. So, yes, they worried about him and even game planned for him specifically. When I hear "intimidating" and I think most do as well, I think more of mean and nasty. Troy wasn't going to throw anyone to the ground if they pissed him off but he would eat your lunch and take a pick in for a TD.

I think you know exactly what you are talking about. I know what I’m am talking about. Lloyd and Deebo’s personal disposition clearly impacted what they did on the field. Hence Harrison taking up the Deebo nomenclature. TP was quiet and humble off the field, but a whirlwind on the field between whistles. All the while asking and giving blessings after every play.

If I was to identify intimidation as to a person stepping on to the field, Nobody, I mean nobody was close to the young Joe Greene. His early professional years presence and antics were legendary. All before the fishbowl exposure from the broadcast media of the 90’s going forward. Once he became team captain though, those antics disappeared and were replaced with professional respect all around.

Joe should be number one on that list and number one on the best Steeler of all time list as well.

I remember watching an old NFL films clip where Dick Butkus knocked out a guy on a kickoff return then stood over him on the sidelines. Mean Joe came across the field spit in Butkus face and started berating him and Butkus just turned and walked away.
