Our government is not functioning the way it is supposed to. The more I hear, the more it is just fundamentally broken.
First, the legislative branches of government at all state and federal levels are bureaucratically dysfunctional. There is the growing complexity of law writing, which makes most laws now written by special interest "think tanks" and pawned by lawmakers as their own. There is the lack of single-subject bills which add pork, waste and payoffs to "buy votes". There is the procedural nonsense that allows stall and delay tactics. Then you add to the mix that legislative members that are the loudest, most bombastic, most extreme get the most "air time" from television and media thus encouraging the behavior and encouraging the "any publicity is good publicity" mindset. This creates a group of "extreme" positions, all trying to be the most extreme on their side of the isle. Not because their constituents want extreme but because extreme gets clicks and eyeballs.
The breakdown of the legislative branch of government has led to a trickle down effect and breakdown of the other branches. As Obama so famously started: The executive branch no longer "executes" laws but selectively executes those laws that favor their political position. The use of executive orders and memorandums to govern (despite almost all of them being over-reaches and struck down by the courts). The turning of the agencies meant to be fair and regulate and execute the laws into political weapons to smear the other political opponents and maintain media coverage superiority.
That leaves the judicial branch, which has (for most of our history) been the most sane of the branches of government but the Republicans realized early in this century that it remains the last bastion of government to conquer. And the idea was spawned of the three-headed way to rule: Legislate roadblocks, Govern by executive order and Adjudicate favorable rulings on laws you do/don't like. The Democrats will eventually catch up to this strategy and pack the courts in their own way (possibly by adding justices across all levels of the judiciary).
This is so far from what the founding fathers envisioned I feel embarrassed to call our federal government a "government" at all. It's a puppet state of bureaucratic nonsense. A legal nest of backroom power brokers that are unelected and untouchable.
I think it's broken beyond repair in my opinion and both sides are responsible (although I think the liberals are more responsible, but that is semantics). You vote for a side but I am sickened by the fact i have to pick a "side" at all.

It isn't reasonable to give 2 million people $4-5 TRILLION (with zero accountability) every year and expect a different outcome. To begin with, they're intoxicated by their unbridled power and those mountains of cash cause them to hallucinate and act very poorly. Further, it is very poor judgement on our part to allow such a concentration of unaccounted for wealth in the hands of mere mortals concentrated in such a small locale. That manufactures graft and corruption. As those behaviors compound, they naturally fuel vice. And worse, we allow those creatures to stay there for decades. No human can weather such temptation. Need to clean house by any means necessary.
With few and rare exceptions every vote has been for 'the lesser of two evils'. That is indeed sickening. Yet we vote for it.
What is the solution?
