Ben to IR, out for season

I wouldn’t blame him if he retires, he has nothing left to prove.
He's got money in the bank, a young family, and a guaranteed enshrinement in Canton. I'd venture to guess that the body of a 37 year old NFL QB equates to that of about a 60 year old mason/bricklayer/steel worker/insert physically demanding occupation here....Why put your body/family through the physical demands that one year or more would require? Nothing left to prove for sure.

Last I checked, Mason was already 0-1 for the season. That makes it harder for that whole 16 straight wins thing to materialize.

Wrong. Ben came in and finished up a loss when Maddox was injured and then started the next week. The loss yesterday goes on Ben's record as the starter. Randolph starts next week at 0-0 in wins and losses.

That sucks, season is over. Don't know if he'll come back, alot of times the arm is stronger after Tommy John. I hope he comes back, possibly the franchises greatest offensive player I hope that wasn't how his career ends.
Bradshaw went behind the backs of the Steelers to some quack doctor LA to have surgery, which actually made it worse. If Ben wants to come back he can.

I'm just asking - was Coach Noll blamed for allowing Bradshaw to continue to play? From what I've read, TB took cortisone shots to play thru the pain, which, ultimately ended his career because it really did more damage by playing w/ the injury.

This really is a terrible day...

Ben inherited a team with a number one defense, a great OL, a HOF RB, and veteran WR. HUGE difference in what Mason is taking over.

Lol.......a great OL? Ben was running around like a chicken with his head cut off ,sacked nonstop.took them a few years to get that O Line solid.

But,anyways.....thanks Ben,you will go down as an all time Steeler great. Welcome Mason to the starting QB of the Steelers. Can you imagine how he feels. Let’s show him support. Also let’s hope the FO does not do something stupid. I can sense a panic trade for some old run down bounced around the league QB coming.

Technically, not. He didn't start yesterday, just like Ben didn't start in the week 2 loss to the Ravens in 05.

I remember Bradshaw's last game as well. Weird coincidence.

Anyhoo, sad for Ben more than I am anyone. Love this guy. He's the only player that I've had 2 of his jerseys.

It’s crazy to me that people are so vindictive that they are more pissed that everyone might not hate Tomlin more than they care that Ben’s career may be over. That’s a strange world to live in IMO.

Knowing the competitor Ben is, I think he will give it a shot to rehab and come back strong next year just so he can go out on his own terms. I also think he will do everything in his power to help Rudolph this year.

And while he'll probably be in the office quite a bit, working with the coaching staff on game planning, etc, you do have to wonder if having extra time at home with the family will make a retirement decision a little bit more appealing to him.

Now a question from the business side of it. How does it work with Ben’s contract he just signed? How long does it count against cap? Does the team normally take out some type of insurance policy on star players,in case of this type of situation? Or do they always pay it all?

For some guys, it's hard to walk away from the competition.

Rally-round Rudolph!

Deion Sanders should be fired.

And just when u thought it couldnt get worse, ESPN is already calling for the Steelers to go get Kaepernick

All the best to Ben! We were quite spoiled to have a franchise QB for so long. All good things come to an end though.

On the bright side, Mason can play. Kid has a cannon arm and played very well yesterday.
I also liked the change in play calling when he was in there. Got back to running, play-action, involving the TE, and made some big plays downfield.

We’ll see how it turns out, but this could be a blessing in disguise. I hope it will force the coaches to get back to running the ball and more aggressive defensive playing calling.

Uhhh, no. The 2004 Steelers had a great offensive line. Marvel Smith, Max Starks, Jeff Hartings, Alan Faneca, and Kendall Simmons/Keydrick Vincent. That line abused defensive fronts. Recall the back-to-back games against the Patriots and Eagles, both undefeated at the time, where the Steelers rammed the ball down their throat so hard it came out their ***.

At the end of the Eagles game, they were in a goal line defense and the Steelers were chewing up 6, 7, 8 yards per run. Ben was sacked 30 times in 14 games. The line problems you are recalling arose in 2007-2010.

Patriots up by 30 points in 4th quarter, and Brady still in the game. Explain that one.

SPECIAL TB12 steroidal drink and officiating over a long career. ALSO add in the fact 25-35% of the time he knew from where the pre-snap pressure was coming.

Salute the nation

Ring Ring---

"Art2---Roger here--- Remember when you helped sweep spygate under the rug for me, I got another favor to ask."

Mike Tomlin just got a free pass on the season.
Thought the same. Time to fire that slacker and be done with it. What’s Mike McCarthy doing?
Ben could help Rudolph compete, Tomlin will wreck his career!

Get well Big Ben and hopefully you get the chance to go out on your own terms. I was always critical because you were the best player on the team and we ran the offense thru him. We couldnt afford for him to be off or have a bad game because the offense was built around him. With great powers comes great responsibility. Speedy recovery and god bless.

Good to know we're still in the hunt, still have a fighting chance. For a second there I thought our season was over.

Our window to win another championship with Ben has closed

Good luck to Mason.

As for Ben I think he’ll retire and test the media waters.
