I do do think this gives Tomlin a free pass this year
Second time I've missed Ben. **** that is bad luck. KC a couple years ago. Landry Jones first start. San Fran this weekend. Better whole season then five weeks. Nothing lasts forever. If Mason is a baller Ben is probably done
If he sucks and Ben rehabs we may see him again.
I like Rudolph and I'm excited to see how he leads this team. I love how pumped he gets on TDs. Guy can do well.
Now what happens if the Steelers make the playoffs with Rudolph? You Tomlin haters going to backpedal on the guy? Incredible, we just may have lost our franchise QB and half of this board uses it to go after Tomlin. Complete banality...
On to the numbers. If Ben retires, he will cost $25M against the cap. The steelers can take it all at once, or $12.5M over the next 2 seasons.
As a Tomlin supporter I hate that this has happened but at the same time I'm interested to see how he responds to this as a coach. For years now all I've heard is he a product of Big Ben and would suck if he didnt have him. Well that time has come. If he is able to get this team back on track and get into the playoffs I would hope that would quell some of his detractors. Will it i doubt it but we will see what he is made of now. Again blessing to Big Ben hopefully this isnt the end and he get the opportunity to go out on his own terms..absolutely the bet QB I had the privilege to root for.

The Steelers just moved Hodges to the active 53 man roster
Ben is a generational type talent and we have been lucky to have him. That being said he just hasnt had the fire then last few years. No emotion.
Love the guy but maybe this is for the best. We get a chance to see if Rudolph can do it.
MT... never coached a losing season. A successful win percentage. 2 Super Bowl appearances. Built-up the most prolific Steelers offense in franchise history at the height of the killer Bs.
Yet...
Pete Carroll on the hot seat? Sean Peyton on the hot seat?
Those teams are in the Super Bowl year in and year out. They've missed multiple playoffs. They've had troubling situations... but Tomlin is supposed to be fired and has some how destroyed the Steeler franchise???
Big Ben going to IR could be a good thing for Ben long term because he could actually benefit from sitting out and studying the opponents from a different vantage point. He isn't going to be taking hits so his body can just rest and possibly make a "comeback player of the year" type season next year. All the while Mason getting the real deal game experience barring any injuries. I see a win-win long term.
For the players the pressure n of expectations are all but removed. Now just go out and ball. Mason has a vibe with Washington and once they get a few games together it should really open up the run game. Color me optimistic

How did he put up career numbers last year without emotion? I mean you have to have a lot of emotion to be really good, right?
We need a QB that will do celebrations with the WRs or RBs when they score, yell and go crazy when they throw a TD pass, I think Mason will provide us that.. if he does, we should be on our way to a SB.
Ben has thrown 363 TD passes.. forgive him if he doesn't go crazy when he throws a 10 yard TD in a regular season game.
He doesn't need to cheerlead to win, besides we have a cheerleader on the sideline wearing a headset.
I love the guy . I really do. I remember what it was like in the years between Bradshaw and ben. I am just saying that maybe this isnt the worst situation. At least we get to see if Rudolph could be that guy
It depends, if you want a chance to make a run then it's not a good situation. If you're fine with seeing what Rudolph has so you can possibly draft another QB then it's not a bad situation.
I wanted to win another SB before Ben hangs it up so I'm really bummed. Ben can still play, I just hope he comes back 100 percent next year.
Those things happen in the NFL... the Steelers aren't an anomaly. Rams and Chiefs had league leading offenses and respectable defenses last season. Neither team won the Super Bowl.you answered your own question/statement.....the most prolific offense in steelers history, but yet cant win playoff games/SBs?! Take it on the chin against Tim ******* teabow, get smashed by the Jax with a trash can of a QB,.....isnt the HC a defense minded person based on his past? Why has the Def been horrible year after year when spending top picks year after year on that side of the ball. Obviously we are tired

The team has been above average and had their share of elite fire power. Each season has had its story. In your "Tim Tebow" playoff lose how important is it not having your starting Free Safety? That alone could have been the difference/factor. Your expectation is that the Steelers should blow out every team the doesn't have a HOF QB. So they aren't meeting your expectations so MT is a total bust and failure and isn't a good coach. While people actually in the league with experience echo that MT has down a more than respectible job in his career.
Criticism is a given including the judgement of lack of the Steelers defensive quality. How many teams are dominant on both sides of the ball for a long period of time? It's usually one or the other, but very rare is a team both. Maybe for a season or two. That doesn't mean MT should just be fired.

No QB is taking this team anywhere with our current coaching, especially on D.I like Rudolph and I'm excited to see how he leads this team. I love how pumped he gets on TDs. Guy can do well.
