Trade with Seahawks

The problem is that you don't know when the 15% comes into play. You can't win if you don't play. BTW in 2016 when we didn't have a 5th pick the Steelers traded for Brandon Boykin. How well did he do? Like I said. It's not a big deal but it still makes moving up and finding gems later on more difficult.

It also doesn't take into account whether it is an early 5th or a late 5th, it makes a big difference

It also doesn't take into account whether it is an early 5th or a late 5th, it makes a big difference

because our 4th adn 6th round picks have been historically more solid than 5th round picks?

Steelers also have two 4ths. So losing a 5th is less of a big deal. Normally they have 7 picks. They have 6. And will be picking lower than normal.

We have placed TE Xavier Grimble on the Reserve/Injured List. @BordasLaw TRANSACTION:

ahhhh, so the FO knows a lot more than the fans concerning their moves. Go figure!

Yea, they're a group of ******* geniuses. These bunch of troglodytes stood back and did nothing to correct the TE issue last off season. You've got 1 decent TE that can't stay healthy and nothing behind him. What do these Mensa members do? Nothing.. absolutely nothing. They wait until they are 0-3 and their #1 TE gets hurt (again) and their #2 TE that has never done anything gets hurt.. not that it matters because I actually forgot he played for us. Yea, absolutely geniuses.

This is called 'strategic patience'. 'Leading from behind'. It was all the rage during the previous administration, which is why much of the world is burning. Apply the same thinking to a football team and you get to 0-3 rather quickly. 0-16 requires advanced strategic patience, but I think this bunch has it in em.

Apparently they've been trying to trade with the hawks for a while for Vannett. Who isn't to say they've been trying to make deals with other teams to address the position? Bit rich to proclaim they have done absolutely nothing when no one knows what is going on or has been going on behind the scenes.

They did nothing before the season. I'm sure the past few weeks they are trying all kinds of stuff to get out of the mess they didn't fix this off season.

I wouldn't say they did nothing. They tried to shore up some deficiencies. They just failed in some areas and others are a work in progress. Some things run their course . It is time for a reboot. Unfortunately we won't get it just yet. Ben covered up some issues. It is for us all now a wait and see. You expect little and hope for the best. Just how it is.

Again, how do you know they did nothing? You make it sound like their are teams out their with no weaknesses that have been able to address every single need on their team. Maybe they took a calculated gamble in the draft and took a player they had rated higher than a TE and hoped said TE would fall to them and they didn't? That is the business they are in, they got to gamble and back their board sometimes. I got no problem of people being critical of what they do I just think it should be tempered with the fact all this stuff isn't black and white. Oh we didn't draft a TE we are doing nothing or we didn't trade for a TE earlier we did nothing etc.... Hell of a lot of stuff goes on the casual fan has no idea about.

I never blamed them for not drafting a TE.Your reply is full of strawmen. You start off making statements that just aren't true and full of hyperbole. I'm aware of the fact that all teams have weaknesses. I never said anything to the contrary. So charging that windmill isn't going to work.

Also just because you think they may have done something doesn't make it true either. Those are just guesses with no fact. They "may" have "tried" to do something but they ended up doing nothing. See you can wish for a player to be there later but that isn't actually doing anything. Doing something means taking steps to make sure you don't go into the season with a oft injured starting TE and a backup TE who probably shouldn't even be in the league. That could have been done. Yes, a lot of stuff goes on that we don't know about. That includes you. But also there are things that don't go on that you don't know about. Because you have no idea that they tried anything. Just speculation and the old "We don't know" mystical mantra.

What's going on now is CYA mode. They took a chance with a walking M.A.S.H. unit and it bit them in the ***. Now they are covering for it.

I disagree that these are win now trades.

I reject your reality and substitute my own

Time for Steelers to stop talking about winning and handle business

“Football is our game. Our business is winning,” Tomlin said at his weekly news conference. “So, we haven’t been handling business.”

The Steelers are paying a price to field a veteran-laden team, so they should be in win-now mode.

Trading draft picks to acquire free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and tight end Nick Vannett might seem like desperation moves but are a sign the Steelers are trying to salvage this season.

The job security of Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert could depend upon it.

The Steelers talk as if they are still a Super Bowl contender that just has to correct a few mistakes when they haven’t resembled anything close to that since going 13-3 in 2017.

The Steelers, in fact, are 9-9-1 since the start of the 2018 season, the very definition of average. They are 2-7 in their last nine games, same as the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins.

Remember that faction of Steelers fans who were sick of the drama and said they’d rather lose without guys like Bell and Brown than win with them?
Well, you’re getting your wish.

They tried to rectify the TE position was that so valuable 5th round pick that you are talking about. Give Gentry a chance. I'm sure he will pan out, afterall, he was picked in the 5th round. So, they have Vance, Grimble and Gentry. Looked solid to me with that drafting of Gentry. When both TEs went down, sure, they will had to do something, even if that means giving up that ever so valuable 2020 5th round pick to get a capable TE in here.
I do have to ask, why are you not in the FO? You clearly can run the team better than them. Give me your resume and I will forward it to the Powers-At-Be.

They didn't give him a chance. They are the ones that traded for Vannett. Let me ask why aren't you in the FO? You'd make a good yes man. Yes, Heir Tomlin what is thy bidding. So let's look at what they went into the season with:

1. Vance- Has never played a full season. Been injured his entire career.
2. Grimble- Has done nothing in 5 years. He isn't a rookie. You know what you've got in him and it isn't much. He isn't a good blocker and he doesn't catch the ball well. So why is he on the team?
3. Gentry- ROOKIE that they obviously don't trust because they don't play him.

So they went into the season with these guys as their TEs. Seriously? Remember this is after Bell, James and AB were gone. This is what they are going to win the SB with at TE? This is how they are going to score points and block? A gimp, an ogre, and a rookie.

I'm not degrating them as you are. They also went into the season with a 38-year old QB, two QBs that have a handful of starts between them and a FA. What if Ben goes down? Well, here we are and you got to play the hand you have or make a trade.. Same with the TE. I will go back to they tried bringing in a TE, but Clev nabbed him and they are strapped for cash(dead money) to make any big moves. Until you and I are in the FO and know the daily business and going-ons, we have no clue what their plan is. I say, let it play out and it they fail, they fail, then we can criticize their moves or lack there of.

pretty sure we were 0-4 in 2013 when we played the Rats and Bell went off for a big game. i was in attendance for that one. We won on a Suisham FG late

Yep, that's when we played Minnesota in London I think, and AB got benched for running the wrong route resulting in a pick.

spike drunk posting, per his standard.

Which is why I called you a yes man.

Also are you equating a 2nd year 1st round graded QB in Mason to Grimble? And you are equating Ben to Vance? Wow.. just wow. Please just stop.

I assume you'll take your own advice and not talking about anything until after the season? Are you going to let it play out? No, which is why you are talking about it now. I don't know what they tried to do and you don't either. I just know what they didn't do. They didn't sure up the TE position before the season. They thought they could scrap by with Ben being Ben.

I think you need to stop with your gloom and doom, every sucks, they are morons posts. If you don't like what they are doing, root for another team. I'm a yes man because I have as much control as you do. None .Brillant call.
