Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

Isn't Archers profile and red flags the same as Josh Cribbs, Dave Meggett and Darren Sproles? 0%?

No. Cribbs is huge, Sproles was a workhorse RB throughout college, Meggett was bigger and was an actual RB in school as well.

None were fumble machines, and I don't think any were injury machines either.

If Archer problem thus far was durability I'd see your point.

Durability was always a big issue in school. In the NFL he just hasn't played enough - though he did manage to get hurt in Week One.

Injuries can be fickle though. It's his many other red flags that worry me more.

This might end this thread. What about Jimmy Allen?

mes Allen (born March 6, 1952) is a former American football player who was drafted in the 4th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1974 NFL Draft. A 1970 graduate of Los Angeles High School, Allen played college football at Pierce College and UCLA.[1] Allen was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in their celebrated 1974 draft. He played for the Steelers for four seasons, where he was a member of their Super Bowls IX & X teams. He was traded to the Detroit Lions in 1978. His nickname during his playing career was "Spiderman." He was the lead singer on the Lions' 1980 recording of Another One Bites the Dust. Briefly homeless at one time, Allen currently lives in southern California.[2] Allen was elected to the Pierce College Hall of Fame in 2012. [3]

Hows that for cuttin and pastin yinz guys

Now imagine a bunch of yinzers sitting around a bar in 1974 bitching about how the Steelers whiffed with their 4th pick of the 1974 draft. Comical isn't it?

?? I don't get it. Jimmy Allen was listed at 6'2 194..

No info on whether he fumbled or got hurt nearly as often as Archer, but consensus is that he played a football position (safety).

The point is they missed! In between drafting their 3rd and 4th HOFers they missed! What's not to get?

Oh. The point is that it's OK to miss on picks.

That's fine. I can get on board with that. I don't expect a 100% hit rate on draft picks nor anything close to it. And assuming other picks from this year pan out, I won't be throwing a fit years down the road that we wasted a pick on Archer. The problem I have with the Archer pick is that it looks like a throwaway pick made by a team that needs contributors. Archer looks to have a low ceiling and just an incredibly low floor, since he has huge red flags and his profile has succeeded roughly zero times in the NFL.

So what were you doin that was more important in 1974

Personally I think you just put him back there and live or die by him returning kick offs. It's not like Blount is doing any better.

Personally, I think you post the dumbest comments on this board. Two can play that game *******!

Agreed Steelerfan. All Ben has to do is lob one and let Archer go get it. He was open by 15 yards when the DB bit on the curl route. Two TD's Ben pissed that night the other was to Bryant where if Ben would have not lobbed it so much Bryant would have easily got the TD.

Ben sucked last night, no question. That's got nothing to do with the fact that Archer doesn't belong on the field.

Did the Steelers draft a midget with no position in the 4th round /
