Virginia residents must stay at home under an executive order issued by Governor Ralph Northam on Monday. The order is effective immediately and lasts until June 10. There are exceptions: You’re allowed to leave your house to get food or beverages, to seek medical attention, or to exercise, as long as you observe social-distancing practices.

The order also says institutions of higher education must stop all in-person instruction, an apparent attempt to corral Liberty University’s ambition to remain open during the coronavirus crisis.

Violations of the law are class 1 misdemeanors, akin to reckless driving and normally drawing up to a year in prison and a $2,500 fine, though Northam said at a press conference Monday that this is not a time when the state is looking to put people in jail.

I saw they predicted 100 - 200 thousand deaths in the US. That seems high to me. Does anyone think the death toll will reach that?

Firstly, who are they? Fauci? Secondly, what data/model did they use to come up with that prediction? A 3rd of the deaths (now just over 3k) are concentrated in New York City, and what they likely failed to reveal was that almost double the people that have contracted the virus have recovered than have died. But let's say their prediction is accurate, and 100,000 die. Let's also assume a third of the US population contracts the virus (that seems high but whatever). That's roughly 100 million people. 100000/100000000×100 = 0.1%. That's probably considered a severe flu season number. Right?

I don't doubt that this is going to wipe out tens of thousands of US citizens when all is said and done, I just wish they ALL would stop with these numbers and projections this early in the crisis. Because really, what does it do but just scare people and make them even more deranged hoarders with plenty of other irrational thoughts?

In the meantime, I don't doubt that some of the most brilliant minds on the planet are currently figuring this little ****** out.

I should note that figure is all cases ranging from mild (which I hear the majority of cases are), to severe. That's a pretty high number but this is obviously very contagious given the extreme measures just about every government in the world has taken in mitigating the spread of the virus.

The US didn’t have the money for the package that was passed. Didn’t stop them from passing it and it won’t stop them from passing more nonsense. We’ve only seen the beginning. The over-reaction is going to get much, much worse.

People are talking about wearing surgical masks to prevent contracting the virus, not to prevent spreading it which is what they do. You can use a muffler as part of an exhaust system, you can’t use it as part of an air as intake system.

You're wrong. Of course it helps with prevent contracting it. That's why emergency workers wear them.

Record 500+ deaths yesterday (1/6th of total) with predicted peak not for another two weeks and no significant decline until May. And I think that’s primarily New York Metro (NY, NJ, Conn). Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans and Miami on the horizon. Six figure death tolls are looking more and more likely.
 
Not stopping nature and survival of the fittest. No matter how bad they crash the economy and ruin most people's lives in the process. One of these days in the not too distant future, folks are going to get tired of the over arching govt telling them what to do...

Personally, I think thats way too high, 15-20 thousand tops seems about right.

But the willfully ignorant need scared straight, like 95% of this board, to stay at home to keep those numbers down. So let them call it however they want. Got to slow the spread.

And Trump gets the added benefit of saying, see only 15000 died after all, we did a great job!
