Again, let’s hope it looks that way in 10-15 days. I work for a health system, our productivity is down 44% for March. There was a mad scramble to prepare for a potential surge, so far it hasn’t hit Pittsburgh either but I did see a model that had our peak being April 12. If you don’t think that much can change in 10 days, check out the stats from March 23rd.
What is a "health care system"? A hospital, medical clinic, doctor's office, supply company, what?
I’m quite certain that this isn’t some elaborate hoax and they forgot crisis actors.
I reviewed TSF's comments at some length. Nowhere - repeat, NOWHERE - did he ever write that the disease or its consequences were a hoax. You making reference to the Sandy Hook conspiracy comments and crisis actors is therefore not only inaccurate, it is a lie.
TSF and I have expressed legitimate concerns that the response is vastly overdone in light of the likely toll with such measures, as compared to what would happen with much more directed, measured steps such as calling for isolation for those over age 70 or with a serious underlying condition like HIV, diabetes, etc. The economic effect thus far from the "lockdown" approach has been devastating. If we continue on that path for two more months, we will not have a ******* country to worry about.
Your "health care system," that allows you to pay your bills and feed your family? **** that, gone if things continue this way. Who the **** is going to pay for your "health care system"? Private citizens? How, they are unemployed for four months. Government? Bankrupt. Who?
"Oh, if it saves just one life."
**** that stupidity. As I have written several times, the analysis is not some grade school "save just one life" approach. Instead, we MUST implement a cost-benefit analysis and do as little harm as possible. Your "health care system" experience has, I presume, led you at least in passing to read the Hippocratic oath - you know, where the first ******* goal of the medical practitioner is "do no harm."
Here? The harm being done is incalculable. I get that because your industry is medicine, you look at this solely as a medical issue. To a hammer, everything is a nail. But we need to socialize, earn money, buy a house, pay for the house, pay for upgrades, mow the lawn, go to entertainment, meet people, etc. In other words, we need to live.
What we are doing now is national suicide. And if you think there is "no other way," YOU ARE WRONG.
Lockdown, what lockdown? Sweden's unusual response to coronavirus
Meanwhile, Swedes love the outdoors and officials have said that keeping people physically and mentally healthy is another reason they're keen to avoid rules that would keep people cooped up at home.
"We have to combine looking at minimising the health effects of the virus outbreak and the economic impacts of this health crisis," says Andreas Hatzigeorgiou, CEO at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. "The business community here really thinks that the Swedish government and the Swedish approach is more sensible than in many other countries."

Will some die in Sweden directly due to the very dissimilar "lockdown" order? Probably. Sure. But is it very possible, indeed I suggest likely, that long-term their society is better off having the vast majority of people live their lives, meet, marry, fall in love, have kids, engage in commerce, etc.
