The Coronavirus thread

If there's one recreational activity that I is high risk IMHO....it's bowling!

Even if you own your balls (no corny jokes please!) and shoes, that has to be the worst!

I assume you mean around the end of 2021 as the Gov. of N.J. said in an interview.

No idea why you would assume that, but my opposition to lifting restrictions has to do with the fact that, while they are declining, new cases are nonetheless higher than they were three weeks ago and consistently above 20,000/day. To think a resurgence won’t happen if restrictions are lifted is naive.

so when do you think restrictions should be lifted? keep in mind, you quite literally just said that when/if restrictions are lifted, there WILL be a resurgence. By that, you obviously mean that more people will suddenly become infected as soon as they step outside their homes and that many - say, thousands or hundreds of thousands or even millions - will drop where they stand, unable to breathe and die on their doorstep.

This idea that we have to wait for new cases to drop in the midst of a big ramp up in testing is ludicrous. We are going to have tons and tons of new cases, but that doesn't translate to a proportional increase in hospitalizations and deaths because up til now we were mostly only testing those sick enough to be hospitalized.

While it may seem counter intuitive seems that it's businesses where large numbers of people don't congregate close together and where social distancing and disinfection measures would be pretty easy to do.

That said no way I'm ever putting my hand into a bowling alley bowling ball again in this lifetime.

Yeah, except, I'm questioning the hair salons/barbers. There's no social distancing in that interaction. Or the massage therapists. But using gloves and disinfecting maybe.

I've been going through physical therapy for plantar faciitis in my foot. Each session began with me laying face down on a bench, the PT massaging my calves and feet (excruciating massage, not pleasant massage), then on my back.

No way and I mean no way am I going back anytime soon and laying on one of those.

Trog's genius is very difficult for the small-brained to comprehend. Like his views on the booming economy to come, at some point in late 2020, or more likely February or March of 2021. At that point, all businesses just start back up as if nothing happened, and the millions who have had nothing to do for seven or eight months other than save money from their beaucoup government handouts will begin spending their lavish savings on eating out, and cruises, movies, golf, everything! The economy will simply EXPLODE!

We may need to import more Mexicans to handle the upcoming labor shortage, right after the first 24 million jobs are filled.

I don't think I'd be too concerned with it if we are both masked and surfaces and tools are disinfected between each client.

The problem with big group settings is a bunch of people getting it at once. Some people are going to get it. Probably most of us at some point. If we wait to do these things til no one is getting it we'll be waiting forever. For the vast majority of us this is a mild illness despite the scare tactics that are played over and over again on TV. If I was in a high risk group I'd think twice though.

If restrictions are lifted NOW as OFTB, you, TIM, Steeltime and the protestors are demanding.

“As soon as they step outside”. Is that how the 800k cases happened? Offer a well thought reason that cases wouldn’t escalate? What changed in the last three weeks? A vaccine? Widespread access to testing? Increased ability to trace outbreaks?

Your frustration with the shutdown has nothing to do with our ability to mitigate the spread absent of existing measures.

ah, Dimly, you again avoided the direct question.

When do you think restrictions should be lifted? Give a precise date.

I'm not demanding all restrictions are lifted now. Not at all.

Masks should be worn. People should be spaced apart. Large tightly packed crowds should be avoided.

We aren't going to eliminate every shred of risk. We can't wait 18 months for a vaccine. So we need to slow the spread as much as possible while minimizing the damage to people's livelihoods as much as possible. A reasonable balance.

The Governor of New Jersey said in an interview with Tucker Carlson that he intended to keep the state closed until no new cases were presenting. Minutes later, when asked how long he thought it might be before the virus died down enough to present no new cases, he projected "The end of 2021."

His words. He is inclined to keep New Jersey closed until January 2022. There won't BE a New Jersey in January 2022.

One aspect of reopening the economy I am most decidedly behind...
Or the massage therapists...

Hellz YA!

Same idiot that said "it's above my pay grade" when asked how he could legally justify nullifying the bill of rights with his actions. Anyone that votes for that idiot deserves whatever they get.

Somehow some Dem organizations have my cell number so I occasionally get texts about their bullshit. I got this text twice in the last few days.

Hi, I’m a volunteer texting with the Democrats. For the first time ever, all registered voters in Pennsylvania can vote by mail with no excuse required. Can we count on you to sign up online today?

i think Dems want a shutdown long enough to get mail in voting for the general election in November. They probably have the printing presses going already.

Am I the only one who is sick of the media lauding grocery store workers and food service workers as heroes?

Remember, the Speaker of the House actually said this about the most invasive, disruptive piece of legislation in our lifetime, "..but we have to pass the Bill before we can find out what's in it." .

And they keep sending her back. Democrats set extremely low bars.
