The Coronavirus thread

Don't listen to the media. Don't listen to elected officials.
Listen to those who actually study the data.

Whenever I need a reality check, I go to this guy. De Scott Atlas of the Hoover Institute.
Pay particular attention to what he says about closing schools.

There are a lot of questions you can ask in terms of his treatment, but to simply dismiss deaths or long-term illness from the damage the disease caused on some people to old age or pre-existing conditions is pretty sad...placing people that fit in these categories below the young and healthy. There are some pretty simple things we can do to help prevent others from experiencing this that have been successful in many other countries in the world and we refuse. People can blame politicians all they want, but when it comes down to it, its the people making individual decisions for themselves and it can have harmful consequences.
 
So my buddy spent a week in the hospital with the wu flu. He spent his 30th birthday there alone. He said it was really bad ****...like the worst flu ever. Lost 15 lbs but he is out and back home. He says his lungs are ****** right now and he has to do breathing exercises.

My mom is now in quarantine. The SNF where she resides has been clean up until this week...then 3 people tested positive, one of which is in close contact with mom. Mom is 79. We are praying for the best.

Hope all goes well are the 3 people experiencing symptoms? We had 3 people test positive, but immediately re-tested all tested clear 2x.
 
I'm sorry to hear that Guru, prayers going out to your mom and your entire family during this difficult time. Keep us updated.

I'm really not sure what to make of this post, and if you're saying that I'm 'dismissing' something because the person deteriorated so quickly. I was simply shocked at how quickly he passed once he was diagnosed and why he wasn't hospitalized or given a serious treatment regimen. I don't think that it's unusual to suspect someone may have co-morbidities when they die 3 days after they're diagnosed with this illness.

Yeah, my friend and his wife had all the symptoms; high fever, shortness of breath and diarrhea. He got really sick but his wife just had the symptoms that went away quickly.

Mom's nurse? Not sure...just positive tests is all the administrator told me.

But Trump didn't wear it soon enough, even though the medical experts originally said masks weren't needed. Then they said they were needed, but only for certain people protesting for certain things. I mean come on, how could Trump be so indifferent with all the wishy-washy bullshit that have come from the medical experts (he listened to in the beginning especially) and their political agendas?
 
I'm not saying I blame Trump for everything that has happened. I telling you that because of the idiotic things he says, because the virus is spreading like wildfire, because deaths are rising, because there is about to be a cascade of schools and businesses refusing to open, because he continues to open his mouth and say things that are idiotic and demonstrably false, people are losing trust in him. The polls bear that out. Whether he deserves all of the blame or not. doesn't matter. Trying to discredit one of the leading infectious disease experts in the word who has far more credibility than he does with most people is going to backfire.

When Fauci says inane bullshit like ignore the plummeting death rate, you know exactly what his agenda is. But keep your eyes closed and believe everything that fake news feeds you. Tibs is the only person here who has been wrong about more things than you have. Well, maybe Flog...

He didn't say ignore the death rate, he said to not have a sense of false complacency.

In NC, the percentage of positives was around 6% and steady, now it's at 10% and rising. Hospitalizations had been staying around the 600 mark, and are now over 1,000. To me it's a combination of the reopening, protests, and large gatherings indoors without masks that are driving these numbers.

As far as changing information, it's a new virus and they are still learning new things about why it effects some people differently than others, antibodies, how it spreads, etc. Not sure how anyone can call bullshit on anything right now. ......and just to make it clear, I was not for the draconian and at times quite arbitrary closings of businesses.

What qualifies Trump as an infectious disease expert? His career in real estate development? His years as a TV show personality? His repeated brilliant comments on medical matters?

If trusting a doctor with decades of education and experience in the field of infectious disease over Trump to make the right assessments of a pandemic makes me a sheep, then BAAAAAAA!
 
come on Trump is an expert in all things from drones to vaccines to Isis to pandemics. If everyone would just drink the damn beach the country would be back to normal in a flash
