The Pittsburgh Steelers have a few players that have one year left on their contracts that likely could get a new contract this off-season.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Diontae Johnson top the list. Fitzpatrick is guaranteed to get whatever he demands. An All-Pro in 2019, and 2020, he had a down year statistically in 2021, but may have had his best overall season as a safety.

Now Johnson is a wild card. He’s clearly a head above the rest of the Steelers receivers, but inconsistency has reared its ugly head at times during the past two years. His route running is elite, but his hands sometimes fail him.

A very speculative report came out today from 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh host Andrew Filliponi who is on site in Las Angeles at the Super Bowl.

I'd be fine with this. https://t.co/ipKgkyDcFF

Now at 15 million per season Johnson would be outside the top 15 highest paid receivers by just the slightest margin. But his numbers don’t lie. He’s a top 15 receiver in the league. He’s coming off his first 1000 yard season, and Pro Bowl appearance. He was Ben Roethlisberger‘s favorite target the past two seasons being targeted 169 times in 2021 and 144 in 2020.

Not worth that kind of contract. Started with the drops again toward the end of the season. I’d be very cautious paying this guy that kind of contract.

Hines57 will absolutely love this news.

Poni is clickbait and he is full of it having “sources”. What he used is Agent boilerplate to get his client‘s new contract done before Minkah’s.

Very reasonable contract for a player of his caliber. I'd probably feel a little better with four-year deal as opposed to five years.
No one agrees and it's maddening to me. 15 mil is chump change to receivers especially in 3 years.

I'm on the fence...

I think DJ has a lot of potential but...

If Jameson Williams is there at 1.20... you've now found your WR1 for the next 5 years at a minimum.

Good article Justin, thank you.

Some risk but you get that with any player. I'd try a 12-14 mil at 5 years, Add to it based on drops. I don't think he is 5th year tag elgible but if so, designate it.

He has improved a lot as far as drops go. Had he not droped the one before 1/2 in the KC play off game wouldn't matter as we were NOT going to win that game no matter what. Not writing the drop off but it is what it is.

He will work hard again this off season and will put smiles on everyone come this season.

We need JuJu but not at over priced cost. We need some toughness in the WR room and he is a threat even when doubled teamed.

Williams is your WR1 and Johnson is your WR2 on a solid deal. Wide receivers are making a ton of money and as 81 pointed out, that only puts DJ at a great deal in just a few years. It puts him outside the top 15 with a handful of receivers also likely to pass him up in the next year or two.

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

No thanks. His hands aren’t worth it
I’d rather pay JUJU the money
Johnson 10-12 million a year at best

He has himself overvalued. I suppose his agent has brainwashed him. He isn't a 15 million dollar receiver, nor even close.

Every drop -100k, put it in the fine print. 🔍

I was thinking having him closer to 20-25th in salary for WR and not around 15th. He still has issues to deal with to just give him a big contract like that. I'd offer him closer to the 12 million per range and see if they can meet in the middle. And, if they can get JuJu again for around $8 million per, then do that as well.

And imagine what it would be in 5 yrs....10 years. Peanuts.
