Diontae Johnson Supposedly Looking for 15mil Per Year

I will say this. Anyone think JuJu is getting 15 per on the open market? I do not. I think he is looking at lower and security or another prove it.

Driving home today, in was listening to the Ravens gm talking about how much of a no brainer it was to pick up the 17.5m 5th year option on Hollywood brown.

I thought of this thread. If Brown is worth 17.5m DJ is certainly worth 15m
Big difference between a 17 million option and a long term at 15 per.

A lot are out of touch with the money wide receivers are making today and Johnson is pretty good. He's recognized as one of the best at creating separation and finished 5th in receptions, 10th in yards, 16th in TDs, 23rd in receptions of 20+ yards (remarkable given our lack of deep passes), 8th in YAC, and 10th in first downs. His production has also improved every year.

There's no sense. People are blinded by his drops. Bad play here and there. Someone literally said in this thread they'd rather pay JuJu that + some!

I appreciate his value but right now the team could do a lot with those 15M to bring a vet OL FA or CB and draft a 1st round WR for example.

Now if the team can get DJs new contract around 10M then I'm all for it because he wouldn't be a #1 in many teams so why pay him as that?

I liked a lot those in & outs routes where he broke Jimmy smith's ankles and he also is money in the slants too. I'll give him props on his improvement and hard work to diminish the dropsies.

Lol, DJ isn't signing for $10 million.

yeah like 2m or something
Do you get the economics of this. They pay their guy 17 for one year. This is that same year 4 more times likely. And the first one is a joke. The others will be close to 20. Plus all the guarenteed.

I do. and I also understand that salaries do not typically go down on a second contract. if They give DJ 15m per year on his second contract. that is going to be a bargain in 2 years.

If it comes down to Johnson vs a proven vet OLman......I go with the OLman.....but everyone keeps saying there is enough money for everyone. So sign Johnson along with a few first day FA OLman.....throw in Fitzpatrick and call it a day. 🙂

JuJu will get $8 million per, give or take a million, on the open market. If the Steelers offer him $8 million per, and they should, I hope he takes it. Any QB we have is going to want that reliable guy who can get first downs, block, and be the leader of the WR room. Without JuJu, there is no leader in that room. DJ and Claypool just aren't.

I wouldn't be surprised if we picked the best WR at #20.

I've been an advocate of how hard DJ has worked at minimalizing the drops and it has paid off. Prior to the 5 drop slide (which could be debated to 3) he ONLY had 2 drops on the season.

I'm not a craptologist so I don't know how 15mil fits into our budget but I'd bet he ends with a 14mil contract 5 years and currently well deserved.

$15 mil per year is fair. IF that is what he’s asking then he’s right at what he should be getting. He had a great year overall. It’s easy to bash the guy because he had some big time drops in that last game but the whole offense looked out of sync. I would welcome him back and still try to find another speedy WR to stretch the field with Claypool in the slot.

Can't really do that. He didn't get the snaps for a reason. After Juju he should have easily seen a ton of field and targets. He seems like a likeable guy and hard worker but he was pretty much a non factor. He had ample opportunity to shine.
Not saying he should be a starter, just that I’d rather see the Steelers use the money to keep JuJu and him this year instead of losing them both and keeping Dieonte next year. I’ll take Washington as a fourth or fifth WR.

I will be very surprised if Washington is in Pittsburgh. I think he will want a fresh start and feels underapreciated. He could be a good reclamation project, but watching him he is stiff. His route tree is underdeveloped.

I am all for getting Ju Ju back. But I think that is highly doubtful. What’s easily forgotten is how little they were using him before his injury. It was very frustrating. Ju Ju had his share of big time drops as well. We need a speed burner. And someone who can get the ball to him. And someone that can give that someone enough time to get the ball to him. And someone willing to call more than 3 yard passes.
We seem to need many someones.

I think DJ is good. I dont think he is hines ward good, or AB good. Im willing to let him go and find another DJ,,, at rookie or fa,, and pay him less.

post of the year

There are definitely some receivers I would take at 1.20. If DJ is signed, his contract would run out just as our future No. 1 would be due for a new deal.
Besides Williams I really like the Dotson (sp) kid ..interested to see what his combine looks like. Like those try hard productive types. Wasn't like they had a stud at QB either.
