CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Jets' interest in free agent LB Dont'a Hightower "cannot be overstated."

Per La Canfora, the Steelers won't make a "massive" offer, and the Patriots maintain interest. This could all be a leverage play on Hightower's part.

Jets making 'all-out blitz' for LB Hightower

ESPN New York reports the Jets are making an "all-out blitz" for free agent LB Dont'a Hightower.

It jibes with CBS' Jason La Canfora's reporting. Per reporter Rich Cimini, the Jets are willing to make a "blockbuster" offer to a player who had been seeking $12 million per season.

Patriots signed RB Rex Burkhead, formerly of the Bengals.

It's a surprising signing in that Burkhead seems a redundant talent to Dion Lewis and James White, but advanced metrics love the former Bengal, and suggest he's an underrated all-purpose back.

Ross Cockrell - DB - Steelers

DKPittsburghSports.com reports Steelers restricted free agent CB Ross Cockrell is drawing "plenty" of interest.

Reporter Mark Kaboly doesn't name any teams. Cockrell was somewhat surprisingly tendered at the original-round level, which is the fourth round in this instance. Teams might view that as a reasonable price for a player who has emerged as a decent No. 1 corner over the past two seasons.

It's possible the Steelers are prepared to match any offer Cockrell receives on the open market.

Dont’a Hightower expected to make his decision today

Dont’a Hightower should set up a table in a high school gym with three hats, and call an assembly where he’ll dramatically pick one.

Actually, when he does it this time, he’ll be getting paid for real.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the free agent linebacker is expected to make his decision today after a quick tour.

He visited the Jets and the Steelers, but many still expect him to return home to the Patriots.

The Jets seem the most desperate to land him, and perhaps they’ll overpay. The Steelers are looking for help inside after losing Lawrence Timmons to Miami, and rarely make such a splurge in free agency anyway. The Patriots offer familiarity, and they didn’t trade him away before it was time for his payday so they clearly like him.

RFA Malcolm Butler 'warmed to idea' of Saints

According to CSN New England's Michael Giardi, restricted free agent Malcolm Butler has "very much warmed up to the idea" of playing for the Saints.

Butler is open to playing closer to home. He grew up in Vicksburg, Miss. and played his college ball at West Alabama. In addition to the default hometown Saints, the Texans have also reportedly shown interest in Butler, possibly as an A.J. Bouye replacement.

Neither team is likely open to giving up their first-round pick for Butler, though it's possible the Saints could be willing to flip back the Patriots' original first-rounder (No. 32) they got for Brandin Cooks.

I hope that Hightower signs with the Jets. I just think that is a lot of money for the Steelers to pay to get him and if he goes to the Jets it weakens the Patriots.
