This tournament was outstanding. I loved every second of it. NHL just knocked the "All Star" game out of the park with this format.

The NHL was political and left out the Russians. That makes no sense, because none of the other 4 "national" teams, including the American team, were actually run by the national associations.
USA Hockey, Hockey Canada, etc. were not any part of this NHL show run by the NHL using only NHL assets.

So the NHL Russians, with the best selection of talent at most positions, we're just left out of this NHL tournament for what reason? The players all play for NHL teams and have with no problem.

But the NHL wanted a quick TV event for Americans, and so the Finns and Swedes were brought along to provide someone to play to make the Canada-US game seem climactic.

That it was enjoyable Hockey just shows how diluted the NHL product really is.

Who are the historic leaders in real international hockey tournaments? Lol, the NHL playoffs coincide with the IIHF championships each year, so only the best losers from the NHL are even eliigible. And the NHL screws up the Olympics, and there is no more regular pre-season Canada Cup intl tourney.....but if you did look up the top teams in all those actual international events with actual national teams, you'd find The Russians at position 1 or 2.

Leaving them out of this made for American TV post SuperBowl event just demonstrates that it wasn't a real competition.

It's been a while since I've said this, but fuuck Gary Bettman.

Glad Sid and the new guy McDavid are happy today, but it's useless without Ovechkin's tears.
