A qb in round 7?

The Steelers actions in free agency and the draft seem to suggest Rudolph isn’t in their plans. Rudolph has a lot of convincing but very limited opportunity to change that.
Mason will get his shot in camp, but it would seem that the Steelers know what they have in him, being on the roster for multiple years.
Watching this preseason will be interesting from a QB standpoint, something we haven't had to deal with in a very long time.

I don't get the whole "poor Mitch, signs with us and we draft two QBs". Do you honestly think the contract they signed him to says "guaranteed starting QB" or is it more likely the Trubisky was signed to a "bridge" contract with a good chance to start IF he wins the competition. If Trubisky signed that contract thinking he was definitely going to start without competition than that was foolish, this is the NFL and that spot should be earned, not hand delivered for a guy that is still unproven no matter who they are. Competition is only going to bring the best out of these guys
Just like the rest of us, in our line of work, those in the NFL play for a paycheck. The only difference between them and us is the size of the check.
That whole death and taxes quote comes to mind.

How much of a shot will he really get? Foster said on his show that team periods in camp are broken down into sets of 12 plays. QB1 usually gets 5 plays. QB2 gets 4. And QB 3 gets gets 3. Or, if QB4 is showing something, you get: QB1 (4), QB2 (4), QB3 (2) and QB4 (2). Not a lot of meat on the bone for QBs 3 and 4. And you better believe Pickett is going to eat up his fair share of those 12 snaps no matter where they have him actually listed on the depth chart during the Summer.

Well Mason also had an entire season where Ben was out with injury to show SOMETHING and got all those snaps. He eventually got benched for Hodges, I don't think 2 extra plays in teams is going to show anymore than what the Steelers have seen

Nope. Sure won't. My point was that he's not going to be able to "compete" for the job like some folks think he is. Basically because everything the Steelers have done this offseason says they don't really want him to compete. They gave him a bump in salary last year to keep him around in case they weren't able to upgrade the position. Now that they have (in their minds), he's expendable unless there's an injury in camp.

Yeah it might have been a competition for him before Pickett got added, now it's mainly going to between Pickett and Trubisky barring any injury like you said

If a team gets desperate and is willing to trade for Rudolph, what do you think they might offer? A 5th? A 6th?

Anything on day 3 would be a nice pickup.

Well ..
From the brief body of work I saw..
If Ola outplays Mason in preseason..
He deserves to be released unceremoniously..

I'd bring back Landry Jones before I'd keep Marsha Rudolph as our 3rd string.

A 7th and the Steelers throw in a case of Iron City and Primanti's for the other teams entire front office. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I kid. But, a 6th sounds about right unless the other team is desperate.

If Pittsburgh decides to hold onto his salary through training camp and another team's QBs start dropping due to injuries you never know. I mean didn't everyone have that "first round grade" on him.

He will have moments to change that perception. But yeah those moments better come with mind changing play.

Not confident that will take place.

Mason Rudolph will not be a Steeler by next season. Probably not by September.
He could ask out if he loses the job. It wouldn't be shocking. For him to be let go I think Mitch and Pickett have to beat him out. Which isn't out of the realm of a possibility.

Do you really think Tomlin would have Pick6 as the #2 qb with only Trubisky as the experienced one?

I think Marsha Rudolph will always be remembered as the guy that got his a*s beat by Myles Garret, got benched in favor of a 3rd string, and was of the misguided belief that he had what it takes to be a HOF QB's heir apparent.

The guy is gone city before the season starts.

Picket has already beat him out and if Trubisky doesn't that is pretty disapointing

The Steelers aren't paying $5 million to a third-string QB. He'll be gone before the season starts.
Never said they wouldn’t move on from him but I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon. I personally wouldn’t see anything happen until maybe until after a couple preseason games to see how things shake out. Also, what would it hurt for them to keep him around and carry 3 QB’s? Tribusky is already on a very team friendly deal and Pickett won’t hardly count against the cap considering his position. I would also be fine with bringing him along slowly and don’t feel we need to rush him out there. My guess would be Tribusky wins the job with Rudolph backing him up and Pickett being game day inactive unless Pickett lights it up in training camp and preseason then it changes everything. I would just temper my expectations for a rookie QB.

Maybe an 8th if we are lucky.
