I forget where I read it but basically it said that the Steelers gasve Colbert the last pick in the draft to choose whoever he wanted and he picked the QB. Who cares- he's cannon fodder. He might end up on the practice squad.
Oladokun wasn't even the best quarterback in the Missouri Valley Conference. Or second best.Very questionable pick IMO...
I watched this kid play during the NFLPA Collegiate All-Start game this year...and he was by far the worse QB on the field out of the 6 that played that day.
In fact, he was so bad, I was wondering what he did to get an invite to that very minor college all-star game...
And that's the point. Camp fodder. Walker went right after we picked this guy. Walker might not pan out but has more upside at a position of need than a fourth arm.I forget where I read it but basically it said that the Steelers gasve Colbert the last pick in the draft to choose whoever he wanted and he picked the QB. I get what you are saying but short of Mason Rudolph winning the starters job do you see any possible way he is with this team next year. And realistically even if he did win it. He has sat for 4 years. Oh and he is 1 million dead cap to cut with 3 million in savings. Look I was on board with starting Rudolph this year. Clearly the Steelers feel the same way about him as many here do.Yeah cut the guy for a bad QB from SDSU... But Tomlin and the Steelers brass making the team weaker would not surprise me at all.
I'm not going to throw a player away because we drafted a camp arm/future PS player... Not sure what can be done with salary with Mason but this team is not better if we go into a season with two unproven rookies. Maybe he will be gone but they need to find someone with experience to haveI get what you are saying but short of Mason Rudolph winning the starters job do you see any possible way he is with this team next year. He was rated high enough to get a senior bowl invite and played. I think his skillset is somewhat different than Watt. Watt is a true FB. Hayward is a undersized TE/HB/ possible third down back. The Heyward pick is JUST as bizzar as this one other than they drafted him because Cam was here.
There is no position for him in the nfl, he will have to hone one position or the other and we get to hope he can contribute on special teams.
Salute the nation
Even considering this, the pick didn't make sense. All three guys drafted late on day 3 aren't going to help the Steelers win even if they reach backup level. If you strike on a backup lineman who can step in for spot duty or get a guy like Norwood last year who provided quality depth in the secondary, those guys help a team. A practice squad QB, third-string TE/H-back, and yet another low potential ILB just don't move the needle. He was rated high enough to get a senior bowl invite and played. I could see them listing him as a TE and keeping both Watt and Heyward. Provided he showed well in camp. Otherwise it might be off to the PS. Which isn't unusual for a 6th or 7th. Like others I would have preferred either a RT or NT.
Hopefully they are thinking about upgrading depth in those areas in free agency. For me that is the two biggest question marks.
I like the ILber. But I get ya and agree for the most part. I know Colbert wanted 4QBs but that felt like a reach when it wasn't necessary. Unless they use Heyward a lot on special teams and say he becomes an ace and they sub him in at RB either on third down or for a spell it seems like not so much a bad value but a bad fit based on need.Even considering this, the pick didn't make sense.
