Last night in Orlando, Florida, Omar Mateen shot and killed at least 50 people and injured over 50 more at the gay nightclub, Pulse. Mateen eventually turned the gun on and killed himself, so his exact reasons for the shooting will remain unknown. However, his father, Mir Seddique told an MSNBC staff writer why he thought his son did what he did.

Seddique began his statement by apologizing for his son’s actions:

‘We are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren’t aware of any action he is taking, we are in shock like the whole country. This had nothing to do with religion.’

He then went on to say that Omar recently became very angry when he saw two gay men in downtown Miami kissing in front of his three-year-old son.

‘We were in Downtown Miami, Bayside, people were playing music. And he saw two men kissing each other in front of his wife and kid and he got very angry. They were kissing each other and touching each other and he said, “Look at that. In front of my son they are doing that.” And then we were in the men’s bathroom and men were kissing each other.’

Seddique said that he was not bothered by these displays of affection but that his son was “very upset.” After recalling the incident and Omar’s reaction, Seddique said, “Now looking back, maybe that’s why he went after a gay club.”

Seddique explained that his son had an Associate’s degree in criminal justice from a local community college and that he worked a security job. Although Seddique obviously does not condone his son’s actions, he told MSNBC that he was shocked by them, describing Mateen as his “number one son,” the “best son a father could expect,” and a “perfect father” to his own son.

Seddique also expressed his confusion again for the whole situation, saying:

‘I don’t know what went through his mind that he went after a gay bar. I was so proud of him, he was perfect, respectful, and helpful.’

We have a leader in office who's soft on terrorism, funds the Muslim Brotherhood, has many ties to the Muslim world, has a massive staff of Muslims in his cabinet, and voila! - we have more (by a landslide) terrorist attacks on US soil under this President than any ever. And he refuses to call them Radical Islamists. He often refuses to call it terrorism, calling it workplace violence or the like. Authorities in Santa Monica found possible explosives as well as assault rifles and ammunition Sunday in the car of a man who told them he was in town for the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood, a law enforcement source said.

Early Sunday, there was a call to Santa Monica police of a suspected prowler near Olympic Boulevard and 11th Street. Patrol officers responded and encountered an individual who told officers he was waiting for a friend. That led officers to inspect the car and find several weapons and a lot of ammunition as well as tannerite, an ingredient that could be used to create a pipe bomb.

The car had Indiana plates. The man made comments that he was in town for the Pride event in West Hollywood this weekend. Sources said they did not know of any connection between the gay nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla., early Sunday morning and the Santa Monica incident, and the investigation has been taken over by the FBI.

A city official in West Hollywood also confirmed the arrest and stressed that officials were beefing up security at the gay pride event.

"They found him with weapons that were very disconcerting," said the source, adding officials are "taking the appropriate safety precautions."

The parade comes hours after the attack at the Orlando club that killed 50 people. At least 53 were injured in the deadliest shooting in modern American history after a gunman took hostages. The gunman has been identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, a U.S. law enforcement official said.
