All bullshit & fighting aside, what is final record?

Holy crap... that is so accurate.

In reading through the entirety of the thread you can see where the pre-preseason posts are, then they just start getting more and more dire after the game against the Eagles. Kind of sad really...

My season prediction is 4-12. That pains me to say, but this team just doesn't seem like it has any fire at all. The offense is talented but vanilla. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised, but it doesn't look good.

oh for the love of...4-12?? Really??

Yep... I'm not some sunshine-pumper. I've seen two preseason games and to be honest, the one was the first week...you don't get to see much.

That Philly game that was supposed to have been a "dress rehearsal," was more like a dressing down of the Steelers. The Black & Gold looked bad on defense, looked worse on offense, and our kicker who just signed a long-term deal looked like he might have been hungover. I love the Steelers, but the reality is that they weren't prepared for Philly...and that's the ONE preseason game that you are supposed to prepare for...

It was bad...really bad

4-12 BUT the good news is Tomlin gets fired. Bad news is Art Rooney II is still the President.

The season isn't lost yet. It hasn't even started. After week 1, then you can claim the season is over.

The man is allowed to make a prediction and to be honest I dont disagree with 4-12. The Eagles are a very good team and it showed. Like it or not, we have been performing to the standard of the Bills, Browns, Jets, etc so far this preseason judging on the starters alone. It wouldn't surprise me if the Steelers dropped the first 4 games as those teams, vice the Browns, are in a different class than the Steelers and we'll be without our first and second string running-backs to start the season, and they will prob miss at least two games, both of which are divisional.

Blunt and Snoop Dog probably won't be suspended until next season if the past is any indication, of course they ARE Steelers so it's possible Rog will immediately suspend them for 4 weeks and fine James Harrison $25,000.
I'm more concerned with the defense than the offense, or at least The Toddster needs to figure out how to put some points on the board because the D is going to allow 23 to 30 every week.

An entire thread of bitching and moaning...

Man up, or feel free to jump on the SeaHawks or SF bandwagon

Yes we should accept mediocrity. In fact we should just allow the organization to slip into 15 or 20 years of irrelevance without a peep.

Easy schedule, good run game, good wr weapons, average defense = 10 wins. Plus I'm adding the fact that we have great coaches so I'm adding 1 more win for 11-5, one play off win, then bounced by the Pats(because the defense can't stop them)

Im not as optimistic. after watching the pass D so far. I think 8-8 at best.

You can't go wrong with 8-8 because that is still our actual record until game one of the regular season.

0-16 because of Tomlin and Haley
16-0 because of LeBeau
15-1 because of Ben
0-19 just because

If I have to read "easy schedule" one more time I think I'll explode. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY you can be beat in the NFL.

After watching that debacle in Philadelphia and the circus-like atmosphere caused by our own Cheech & Chong a/k/a Doobie brothers leading up to it, I sure don't have much faith that this team can even have a 8 and 8 season. Though Troy Palomalo is a classy professional he is a solid guy who has given his all to this team. No wonder he went ballistic on the side-lines at the Philly game.

We are going to have to scratch and claw like junk yard dogs to win this year with an "easy schedule" from what I have seen in pre-season.

I wonder if they sell Iron City with Malox???

All good points both pro & con. I can easily see some bad play here and there, costing us a game or several. But I can easily see some good play, splash play, that wins a game or several. The thi ng is, this team can go either way. Its in transition, you just got some above the line, even with the line and below the line players. If none get hurt, a few games under their belt, whoa La, 11-5. I'm sticking.

Rematch with Philly in the BUPERSOWL, we win 44-4 (refs take away 2 pts from their only TD and disallow the extra point because **** the eagles!)

Ben Roethlisberger said today that he doesn't expect to play in Thursday night's preseason game against Carolina and that he's OK with where the offense is at, despite the team struggling last Thursday against Philadelphia.

Roethlisberger said the team only ran the no-huddle on its opening drive by design and that offensive coordinator Todd Haley gave him the option of doing it again later in the game but Roethlisberger declined because he didn't want to put anything on tape for future opponents to see.

He also said the team was moving Markus Wheaton and others around a lot and perhaps forcing things to them to see where they fit into the grand scheme of things.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin had to have expected a question regarding the team's lack of quality rush defense out of their nickel packages.

Steelers Digest editor Bob Labriola finally asked him about it. In doing so, Tomlin all but confirmed he wasn't playing to the situation, he was playing the situation to get guys work in that package.

Labriola asked, in an interview on the team's site, "It seems as though teams have had success running against the Steelers’ nickel defense. Is it a matter of "pick your poison" there because you have to be mindful of defending the pass when the opponent sends out multiple wide receivers?"

Tomlin's response:

We’re trying to get a lot of things done in the preseason. We have different agendas, particularly when it comes to certain packages. To be quite honest, we haven’t developed a lot of work in terms of schematics in that area. Sometimes our failures in that area are obvious to us and thoughtful to us.

We’re not overly concerned about it. Our defensive staff has been down the road and back. We’ll make the necessary adjustments to fortify that area, but we’re not overly concerned about it. Often times we know the situations that we put the guys in going into it, but we want to see what they’re made of. That was the situation in that regard. You want to give guys an opportunity to succeed or fail, and then you want to make the necessary decisions accordingly.

Fair enough. It is the preseason, and regardless of work they got in the nickel against a good running team with a balanced passing attack like Philadelphia, they showed they've got some work to do in that regard.

Take from these comments what you will. The Steelers were working on things. Also Polamalu was quoted as saying they did very little gameplanning almost none in prep for the Eagles. I said 11-5 earlier in this thread and will not change because of a preseason game the Steelers werent going all out to win.

I have issues with trying to see how effective players are in a certain defense when that defense is not appropriate to the situation. It makes me think that what you find out will be of little to no value.

I agree Wingman. Sometimes, like a play or two or so yes, but to keep it up over extended plays, not so much. You practice hard, game situations against game situations.

On another note, with last nights game and meaningless, does anyone think plus or minus win / loss record?

I was in the stadium last night and nothing I saw made me rethink my original position (4-12)...BUT Josh Gordon's suspension makes me want to add a couple games to the total. I could go to 6-10 because Cleveland is horrible, Gordon is suspended for the year...

...and it would appear Texas A&M is just fine (if not better) without Manziel...
