And here's the issue with Tomlin

What does his post season record have to do with his year as Minnesota's DC? Did you even read my post or what I was responding to?
Yea I read it and I stand by what I said. The same Tomlin that went 31st against the pass in 2006 is the same Tomlin that has gone 3-8 in the postseason since 2011.

Look, I'm not Tomlin apologist by any means, but everyone latches on to that ONE stat from his one year as Minnesota's DC, and ignore everything else. They were 31st in total passing yards, but were 19th in net yards per attempt, we were 17th that year. They were 1st in rushing defense, in all categories, giving up less than 1,000 yards on the season and only 2.8 yards per attempt. They were 14th in pts per game, and 8th in total defense.

The year before he got there, they were 20th in pts, 19th in rush, 22 in pass, and 21st in overall. It was also well known that he was able to relate to any member of the staff or team the same way, whether it was the GM, the water boy, the kicker, or staff on the team plane, he treated them the same. It wasn't like they just grabbed him for no reason at all. He was a young, upcoming coach.

18 years later, and his message and style has grown stale. Doesn't mean he was trash from the moment they looked at him.
"We had already interviewed Ron Rivera [then the Bears' defensive coordinator], and so that fulfilled the obligation," Rooney said. "We went on, had heard about Mike, called him in and talked to him. He was very impressive."

From Tony Dungy. He wasn't even on Pittsburgh's radar. And yes, you're very much a Tomlin apologist.

SB here we come!!!!!!
While we wait for Rodgers. Omar Khan & The Steelers have announced they are accepting fan trade offers for Super Steeler Fan STILLWRIGHT...

The Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, & the ole Houston Oilers have expressed limited interest. The Black & Gold are willing to eat STILLWRIGHTS salary in an unexpected twist of events. Stillwright has soured on Steeler Brass, as they have on him & it looks like they are heading toward a divorce & he may just be jettisonned to the Dawg Pound...

The STAINS would be INSTANTLY considered SUPERBOWL FAVORITES with this key fan acquisition...This fan does it all & knows it all...BUT BEST OF ALL, if he is wrong he is STILLWRIGHT

Question is can Pittsburgh find a fan comparable to STILLWRIGHT from the Dawg Pound in return? Pgh may just have to find his replacement in the draft

Tomlin asked his thoughts on replacing STILLWRIGHT said it will not be easy as STILLWRIGHT is a bonafide "FIVE-TOOL FAN"...

Well, let's see: 1.) We have seen how this plays out so many times before, and 2.) We are a glutton for punishment.
Glass half full. It is healthier way to live. I still feel spoiled as a fan of a team that despite recent disappointments, has provided me far more entertainment and wins than disappointments over the last 50+ years. More than most most fans of other teams in that time frame.

Let's see what happens this year. I have hope. It springs eternal. Without it why watch.
Good point. To be honest I will watch if I have nothing else planned. And if it is televised. In the past....watching Steeler football was my plans.

And every season is always a "let's see what happens this year". Some seasons the optimism is just higher than others. The last handful of seasons the optimism is very low.

If Rodger signs here I will root for him as I did Russ. Who I was against signing and starting. And by the end of the season I think should have been benched for Fields. Anymore though I wonder how much even he was held back from our HC at times.

Until Rodger signs though I will post as being opposed to him coming here. Just my personal opinion.

And this is what Sports is all about...Hope springs eternal for all 32 teams...I remember as a kid reading the Boys of Summer about the Brooklyn Dodgers who always lost to the Yankees, the fans would rise in unison each time..."Wait till next year"...

Look at guys like Belichick, Reid, even Cowher, and their assistants go on to be head coaches, coordinators, or just flat-out successful. But with Tomlin? Nothing.

Mike Tomlin doesn’t want coaches who are smarter than him. Instead of bringing in guys who could take the team to the next level, he hires buddies and yes-men who won’t challenge him. Look at the guys he’s kept around:

• Randy Fichtner – Only had a job because he was tight with Big Ben. Dude was running an offense straight out of Madden ‘08.

• Keith Butler – Just kept Dick LeBeau’s defense on autopilot until it got outdated.

• Matt Canada – Absolute train wreck, but Tomlin still dragged his feet firing him. Until fans chanting embarrassed the **** out of Tomlin in national TV.

Meanwhile, teams like the 49ers and Chiefs are pumping out elite coaches left and right. Shanahan’s assistants are running half the league now.

And that’s the thing—great coaches don’t fear great assistants. Look at guys like Andy Reid. He’s had Eric Bieniemy, Matt Nagy, Doug Pederson—hell, even Sean McDermott under him. They learned, they grew, and they got their own teams. Tomlin would rather keep the power to himself than bring in someone who might actually push him—or worse, prove he’s been holding the team back all these years. That’s why the Steelers keep spinning their wheels.
Who are you again?

I’m not sure you want to look at Belichick as a positive example for a coaching tree. His have been disasters.
They're both micromanagers with little in the way of coaching trees, the difference is that Belicheat is much better at it.

Many of us are in that boat, HOPE is all we got.

No, I'm not...I don't want him coaching my steelers. I just think it's ridiculous to rewrite history to push an agenda.

And BB’s assistants were good with him. McDaniels stunk as a HC, so did LeBeau, both were great coordinators. At least his guys get gigs, everyone knows that Tomlin controls his.

Wow. You edited that post all up. Does flow a bit better this time around. I guess when you care you revisit hours old post and fix them up a bit. I am glad you put so much effort into it being a "true" Steeler fan that you are. Not one like me. Who has soured on the current brass(and HC). Keep up the great post(s). And keep calling out the subpar fans when you see them. Maybe one day you can achieve the "SUPER TRUE" fan title. I heard only a few have ever achieved that elite status. I am sure you are really close. I am rooting for you.🤪

Yep.
I agree with all that.
But I still think the thing that is most telling about Mikey Sunglasses is that he has been a Head Coach in the NFL for 18 years and he hasn't learned a single thing about clock management.

In game adjustments is another area also. Or he simply refuses to male them.

But if you listen to him, everything comes down to execution. There are no other factors, including the other team. This insinuates that the calls are right 100% of the time, the Steelers simply don’t execute.

I can agree that at times, execution is definitely a problem. Just as much (at the very least), the calls are mind-numbingly stupid. Like the pitches to Najee, for example, or going deep on third and inches. Both are low percentage plays, yet they are a staple of the Steelers offense.

List of top 5 other things he has not learned in first 18 years:
1) Player development
2) Hiring competent assistants or positional coaches
3) Management of a QB room
4) Usage of the entire field of play
5) Xs and Os

Here’s to the next 3 years of irrelevance as you piss down your leg, live in your fears and hide in your turtle shell Mikey!!! You’re the best at being mediocre the league has seen 😎

He's going to feel super sneaky this year because we will confound the opposition by not having Najee run up the middle on every first down.

Genius.
