It's not a minor ankle injury. Recent reports stated that his injury was a devastating bruise (in his lower leg) that ultimately started calcifying and turning muscle into bone, a condition known as "myositis ossificans".

The man made a vow to himself that he wouldn't play again if he couldn't practice. Constant pain could derail any passion. So if your passion for a sport leaves you, you are doing your team a service in retiring. Especially if you aren't going to be 100% out there. That in itself can hold your team back.

And when you are weighing injuries one day you might think ok this will get better. Then the next day you are like oh **** this is still a issue. Then the next day and the next day it is still there. And one morning you wake up with the realization it isn't going away. So really hard to say the man should have retired earlier. When injuries often are a wait and see.

I read that it can eventually go away with treatment that involves rest, physical therapy, etc, but also read often their pain worsens instead of lessens. So yeah a increase of pain, not a pleasant circumstance.

His offense is built on sending everybody into routes and the QB has to make a quick read and get rid of the ball.

That sound great on paper, but in real life, it's not always possible to make the correct read that quickly, unless you're Brady and you already know what the defense is running before the snap because your team cheats.

The result is QBs take a bunch of big hits. It doesn;t always show in the sack totals either because Arians QBs will take big hits after getting rid of the ball due to a guy coming unblocked.

Lots of people think Jameis will have a big fantasy season this year because he can throw the deep ball and he has Mike Evans and Chris Godwin who are both good deep threats. Sound good on paper. But in real life, Jameis will take a beating this year. His stats may end up looking good though.

Just to add fuel to the Arians the QB killer fire...Winston was sacked 5 times in the first half against the Browns in an exhibition game this week.
 
This man earned my respect several years ago when I saw him get crushed for an entire game by the Steelers pass rush. Two things I took from that game. One, I couldn't believe what I witnessed from the Steelers pass rush. The DL got a constant push the entire game. Never saw them do that before and haven't since. Two, Luck was getting brutalized yet kept slinging it accurately. He played amazingly well under constant duress for 60min in a 50-34 loss. He is not a millennial *****.

Colts definitely need to trade for a QB. No way Brissett leads that team anyway.

I think just the opposite. The team will rally around Brissett, he's the anointed one, Luck's already sprinkled him w holy water. Having said that, Josh Dobbs would make an awfully good looking back-up in Indy.
 
I like Brissett a lot. He just needs reps...and reps he will get. Probably better than a few starters in the NFL right now. We'll soon find out...problem is, the dolts oline is horrible.
 
The fans booing was total classless. Luck with lack of a team played very well and deserves better from the fans. He has gone through a lot , tired, we should get it as athletes want to be top performance at all times. Rehab is not what they want. and obvious it had affected Luck , enough to say enough I'm out of here.
 
Brissett sucks. And the old school QBs are laughing at Luck. My calf hurts...
 
Luck put up impressive numbers and won a lot of games despite playing on poorly coached teams that could hardly run the ball or protect him.

He finally got to work with some good blocking and coaching last season and the results spoke for themselves.

His body seems to be falling apart, while he has a structural engineering degree from Stanford to put to use.

The guy has other opportunities to pursue and I cannot blame him for walking away, given the circumstances.
 
3 points:

1. There is no way the organization didn't know about this much much sooner. There is no way Luck didn't let them know this was a possibility before this week. Shame on them.

2. Luck was a great QB his entire career. IMHO he's still a HOF QB.

3. Anyone that thinks BA is some great coach obviously doesn't watch what happens to his QBs. If Ben weren't 6'5 240 lbs. he would have been in a full body cast after his 2nd season with the Bruce. Winston is big so he better be ready to get pounded on by 300 Lbs. DL and blitzing Lbs.
 
I'm sorry, but Andrew Luck had HOF potential. If you put him in on the actual body of work there are probably another 20 guys who should be in. He is not even close. That said, it is his life. He made his money. Yeah he screwed the Colts out of some guarenteed cash. When you make the contract you have to know that. Best wishes.
 
I don't blame Luck at all for this decision. Obviously he doesn't need the money, certainly not to the point of becoming a cripple.

He's smart, and will do just fine the rest of his life.
 
As one who hasn't walked a mile in Luck's shoes, I can not comment on what has happened behind the scenes. I don't take a lot of stock in what the organizations / media / talking heads say or think. Luck was a good QB but not elite and I am glad he is standing up for himself in this decision. I wish him well in his endeavors and health along the way.

A great many fans are asshats. Hell they cheered when Bradshaw got hurt and he had won 4 super bowls.

Exactly! Look, Luck didn't suck, he was a very good quarterback. But a Hall of Famer?? Give me a freaking break. This guy was billed as THE greatest QB coming out of college, and I'm sorry, but he's not even close. Yes, injuries play a huge part in that. But the fact remains that while he put up good numbers, he is what he is. A QB with a good career, nothing more.

That's the other thing. Everybody is getting on the Colts fans for booing, but I don't blame them. Come on, he HAD to know he was thinking this for some time, so why wait until 2 weeks before the season. It's a dick move, plain and simple.
