Are we gonna talk about the NFL refs continually cheating for the Chiefs ?

We'll see who they draft and what *cough* changes *cough* get made but I'm thinking next season will be Captain Cool Shades first losing season.
There won't be a big step up from the last five games of last season.
I actually would be surprised if he has a losing season in Pittsburgh. His philosophy is sound when it comes to winning enough regular season games to maintain mediocrity. There are always going to enough bottom tier teams on the schedule to allow for winning opportunities. His issue is that a philosophy that gets you wins against below average teams is 1000% wrong when playing against the top tier teams. He plays to not lose, and this style is hard to change to for the playoffs, even if he wanted to, which he has demonstrated many times he will not do.

I predicted a 9-8 season finish in 24, and they were only 1 game better. I am also predicting the same 9-8 record for 25, at this point in time.

Getting IR players back for the 25 season gives me hope that they will at least maintain their current level of mediocrity. Depending on FA acquisitions and the Draft, I could possibly see me revising my prediction to 10-7 with another 1st round playoff loss.

Back to our topic, I don't think the refs cheat for the Chiefs. Not intentionally anyway. I think there are three things at play at and only one of them borders on inequity in refereeing.

1. The simple fact is the refs are not very good, partly because of skill and hugely because of what they are asked to try and judge on the fly with 22 men flying around the field. The NFL needs to leverage technology a lot more than they do and have professional full-time well-trained refs.

2. Confirmation Bias, we see what we expect to see and filter out information that doesn't fit our preconceived notions. If we look at these games individually and without biases we would find that the refs suck, and it goes both ways missing calls. The Chiefs just tend to play smarter and keep games close to where a break or two can make all the difference and they know how to capitalize on those breaks better than anyone.

3. Finally, the one that introduces some hint of inequity into this, Superstars get the calls. This is true in every league at almost all levels of play. I don't think it is intentional or even a conscious decision, but an inherent human flaw. Again technology, oversight and training are the only way to try and combat this.

My solutions.

Hire better younger refs and make them higher paid fulltime professionals with year-round training and film review. Increase crew sizes and have them in the boxes glued to monitors reviewing every play real time from multiple angles with live two-way communication with the on-field refs. Rewrite the rulebook with help from these professionals' refs to clarify rules and make the enforcement of them less subjective. Make all plays reviewable by the booth ref's real time. Look at statistical trends among crews and strive for keeping things balanced. Over a long enough period of time you can tell if a referee overly favors a home team like the one we had in our playoff game. If I remember correctly, he had the home team winning 80% of his crews' games which was way outside standard deviation. I may have the wrong game.

Why would we talk about refs in the irrelevant games?

Everyone knows that the goal is to get smoked in the first round of the playoffs!
we did it!!!
we won again and didn't even need the refs help to get smoked.

That's just pure natural coaching futility on display there.

Stack up the Tomlinship and get to working on your golf game ASAP...it is the way. These clowns playing games clear into February.

well in a positive note, just think of the wear and tear guys like TJ and Cam safe on their bodies by not playing past the 1st round.
should get them an extra year or two on their Careers.

If you watched a game looking at every play through a microscope, you can find multiple plays per game that favor any team.

I don't know why everyone is crying about that 4th down spot. Refs spotting the ball is always inexact. They run in from the sidelines, trying to look into a pile and spot the ball. They're usually close but when there's a pile, it's rarely exact. Then it's almost impossible to overturn in a pile.

Bills did not lose because of the refs. Chiefs are not winning all these games because of refs. Chiefs are winning because they have a great defense, the best QB in the league, and brilliant playcallers on offense and defense.

Does it bother you? It obviously does.

I hate grits.

You don't like Tomlin for whatever reason & that's anyone's right but there can be a rag on Tomlin thread and devote the other threads to football talk

As it is, 80% or more of the content is ragging on Tomlin when any fool can see the roster is second rate and most of the players do not execute

That's bad for business and this website is a business not your living room
