Bears Turned Down by Steelers to Interview Tomlin

Welcome to Groundhog Day, keep moving along…… nothing new here to see……………..

Djfan, when you go back to 1969 when Joe Greene was drafted and watch how this franchise was transformed into the GREATEST Franchise ever……………….. Until Tomlin lost inherited players and the team was more dependent on Tomlin players……….. from that time forth it has been deteriorating down.

So frustrating to see this HC taking so much away from the legacy of this Franchise, it just boggles me to no end.

Coach Cowher left a strong Franchise Legacy, Coach Tomlin is not leaving ……… that’s the problem.

Salute the nation
LC and Jon Kolb were in that '69 draft as well. I remember being a caddy at Westmoreland Country Club and the uber wealthy from Squirrel Hill talking about this Greenwood kid being a steal.

Trade him for anything you can get, nothing here changes until he's out the door, this is worse than being a fan in the 80's

just speculating...

Tomlin wouldn't want to go to Chicago for every reason listed above. He'd inherit a team with a lot of work to be done. His best bet would be a team that has championship talent in place already. Looking around the league, there's not a lot of places where he'd be able to step in and find that.

Dallas has a franchise WR, a decent to bad QB and no run game. Defense is decent, but... facing the Eagles and Redskins twice per year isnt ideal. Add in that Jerry Jones meddles in the team on a daily basis, so there's oversight there. heavy-handed oversight.

Carolina has a QB they drafted first overall who showed some glimpse of that talent late, but ... not much else. Expectations wouldn't be too lofty immediately as the team has a lot of holes to fill.

Chicago. Turned down already.

New Orleans is in a state of flux. Carr is on the decline, Kamara is on his last legs and there's no talent to work with. Hard pass if you're Tomlin.

Jacksonville has a "franchise" QB, that Tomlin wouldn't be able to turn into a franchise QB, a decent run game with two or three RBs, a damn good rookie WR and a decent defense. They face Indy, Tennessee and Houston on a regular basis, which is quite a step down from the AFC North. Still... not a lot to work with but likely one of the best teams to move on to.

Las Vegas. Raiders would love to poach Tomlin to go with a young team with zero direction. But, for Tomlin, there's no QB, no RB, no WR and a decent defense. I don't see this happeninng, but Tomlin would likely have as much leeway to keep his job as he does here. Maybe a little less. But, Tomlin would also face KC, Denver and the Chargers twice. We know he rarely beats those teams. Hard pass, even if it's tempting.

So, unless Carolina or Jacksonville ante up... and Tomlin agrees to a trade ... we're stuck with his ineptitude for at least one more season. It might be that Tomlin was presented the offer to go to Chicago and declined it. Could be the same with the other "multiple teams" who called.

Indy, the Giants and Titans might be willing to trade for him next year.

In today’s Post-Gazette, Joe Starkey was critical of Rooney for not entertaining the idea of trading Tomlin.

Supe, I think that’s lot of why he wanted the no trade clause.
Tomlin it appears does not know how to build a championship caliber team.
He’s very comfortable here and knows he has more security than any other team in the league.
There are zero scenarios out there where a team is looking for a HC only one year removed from a world championship. Ain’t happening! Tomlin fell into literally a pot of gold and he damn well knows it.

Definitely take Carolina off the potential list

Have an offensive minded coach which is what Tepper wants, not an offensive midget like Tomlin

Also no way would Tomlin even contemplate going somewhere without a ready made roster and no way would he consider going somewhere where the owner cans coaches after a handful of games.

The last spot he’d go is Carolina

I’d even go as far to say that Carolina with Canales is closer to a playoff victory than the Steelers are with Tomlin…sad, very sad

Maybe they should’ve listened to the Bears, I mean, they got a high 2nd round pick for Claypool…
Boy, Claypool ended up being a real piece of ---- didn't he? A Colbert pick when we needed our 2nd rounder to be great. He just turned out to be a lazy bum.

It's so frustrating. It just feels like we will just have to go into a holding pattern for three or more years. Stupidville

We've been in a holding pattern for 10 years. The defensive side of the ball drives me bonkers. So much talent, so very little creativity to use it. They change nothing. Ever. Well, other than morphing into this passive prevent zone garbage.

Spend most of your money on defense and it looks like trash by mid-season every year.

Everything Fraudlin touches turns into the same thing eventually, always.
