Bell sorta admits he screwed up

How many times do you have to be told this? A dozen posters and Mods have explained this to you time and time again, you can’t trade a franchise player unless he signs the tag. Bell never did sign his tag. Therefore, he couldn’t be traded. We will never know if he was done when he declined the last offer. All we know is he went from having one of the best OL blocking for him to one of the worst with NYJ.
I hear we can still trade Bell for Cleveland's two number 1s.

I dunno about that Coach... I seem to remember forum posts referring to Cowhers training camps as camp cupcake. Some people would lose their minds over Cowher taking the players to the movies. As far as AB is concerned I don't believe anyone, including Cowher, could have contained him .
Speaking of which I remember fans screaming to fire Cowher before he finally won a SB...the same way Tomlin is being treated.

Michael Irvin, Terrell Owens, Deion Sanders, Randy Moss, Antonio Cromartie, Chad Ochocinco, Steve Smith, Randy Gregory, Cortland Finnegan, Pac Man Jones, Vontaze Burfict, Keyshon Johnson, yep all nothing to do with Tomlin. Oh yeah, Santonio Holmes was a problem for Cowher, but he also never allowed it to be seen by the press corp. Keep driving your narrative off the cliff.

Holmes was drafted the year Cowher retired so I don't think Holmes had been under Cowhers wing long enough for Cowher to try and control.
He became Tomlins problem.
I never realized that we traded Holmes for a 6th round pick which ended up being AB, another but worse problem child

No, he wasn't going to stay good and was a diva distraction. Bell, Brown, and potentially Claypool. He held a gun to our head and demanded more.

Tomlin has lots of diva players and doesn't handle them well. A knock on him. Cowher would not bend over to players that are divas.

As I said I wish we traded him back then.

I could be wrong but looking back at that roster I'm not sure Cowher had that much of a diva problem in those days. Seems that the diva problem has gotten worse over time.

Not even close, Cowher drafted more character type players (today's players are raised meMEme). In Cowher's days there was probably 8-15 percent "DIVA" through-out the league, today's percentage would have to be near 25-40 .

It's a part of and a product of society culture.

EDIT: Definition of "DIVA" is a very wide spread topic, thus the wide percentage spread.

Bam Morris, Anthony Smith ... Cowher had criminals, divas, and boneheads too.

It is a league wide generational issue and is also inherent with Millennials and younger in all walks of life.

Dude, they all played for different and different coaches and aside from Sanders never won anything. Tomlin had multiple divas who's character was awful. I would call Mike Irvin a diva by the way he was a gamer.

As for BELL we should have traded him when it became obvious the dufus won't sign...BEFORE we tagged him. Now Holmes was allowed to be shown by the press corp? LOL.

I know they were back to back coaches but the NFL has changed so much since Cowher retired. Some times I wonder what would happen if someone tried to kneel during the anthem in Cowhers days

interesting to hear fans say "well, in Cowher's day......" and then read something like this from a player that was in the locker room, about Cowher's Players:

Chris Hoke, per The Inspirational Story of Pittsburgh Steelers Safety Troy Polamalu by Jim Wexell:

“Sure, 2004 was a huge year for me, but what I remember about that year was that some of those older guys, the guys who just didn’t treat the younger guys with respect, they were leaving and the culture was changing. You had Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, Alan Faneca. Troy was just coming on. You had James Farrior. Good. Dude. These were good guys who just wanted to play football. The culture shifted. You got rid of the Dewayne Washington’s and the Chad Scott’s, those guys, it was ridiculous the change in our team.”

At what point will you get that tagged or not they couldn't trade him. Untagged he was a free agent which you can't trade and tagged he couldn't be traded unless he signed the tag. Trade was not an option.

Irvin and Keshawn won Super Bowls. Smith played in one. Owens went to the playoffs with 3 different teams, so you really cant say they "never won anything",

Another thread where peeps explain things to cooch but he still doesn't grasp....well anything.

I think he is grasping something.............. with all this attention he is getting..................

AB changed a ton after Birthdefect head hunted him. I find it highly probable he lives a shortened life and found to have CTE when it’s all said and done. What a tragic waste of talent for both AB and Bell

Oh, you better believe Cowher was all over ”Tone” (as Cowher called him) his rookie year. There were a couple Cowher press conferences where he commented on his miscues specifically and that being a #1 pick doesn’t account for anything if you don’t protect the football. Something he would be called out incessantly in the media today. Santonio had nearly half dozen fumbles alone as a rookie. Probably one of the reasons why Whiz and Cowher didn’t start him over Ced Wilson.

Dork, of course they played for different coaches. That was the emphasis of pointing them out. Most coaches deal with high maintenance players. There is a reason why skill positions have the predominant monopoly of divas in the NFL.

the answer is "at no point"

at no point will he understand that

You need to go back to your groundhog den and wake up in several more months. The adults are talking.

Dude I didn't like Bell from the get go, he said he was over rated. I wanted to trade his sulky rear end and would have applauded the move. This is before the Steelers tagged him. Remember? We teated him with kid gloves and we sat out on us. The Steelers go nothing. Zero. Zilch.

Now go back the we need to sign Suh and Lloyd will be long gone by our pick threads. Or for that matter anythings you predicted that was future related. I'd like to laugh.

Dork, you are openly admitting you didn’t like Bell and that he was overrated. Yet was All-Pro 2 years, and was in contention for OPOTY three times. Bell almost signed his extension offer when he was tagged the first time in 2016. He then bet on himself the next year, made All-Pro. He didn’t sign at all when he was tagged again, because he “wanted to reset the RB market”, even though the contract that was offered was 5y $70+ million (with $30+ guarantee). Then the largest contract ever PIT offered at that position.

Also numb nuts PIT received a 3rd round Comp pick for Bell, and that pick is our current starting RT. So we did get something. Gheez, can’t you even see how idiotic your statements are before you click send to your posts?

I don’t have to go back commenting on the Suh thread because I never wanted him to begin with. To old and he freelances to much. As for Lloyd, once Jack was signed, it was the precursor that a ILB wasn’t going to be drafted in the first 4 rounds. Plus I think the coaching staff has plans for Buddy Johnson (a’la the Bince type player).

As for future predicting, I guarantee that to follow your method (the day after the actual decision), I would be 100% correct on every prediction you moron.

How could we forget a paper towel dispensers biggest enemy Jeff Reed. Looks like he was at his worst behavior under Tomlin

Reed is known to be eccentric.[10] This has included instances of Reed bleaching his hair and letting it grow out, as well as wearing fuchsia clothing to match his girlfriend's outfit for the team's annual fashion show to raise money for breast cancer awareness.[11] One year for training camp, Reed voluntarily carried around a pink backpack since the team had no rookies on special teams, who would usually carry around the backpack.[12]

Reed was cited by police on the night of February 14, 2009, for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief for destroying a paper towel holder in a bathroom at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria, Pennsylvania.[14] Reed was reportedly angry that the men's restroom was out of paper towels. He pleaded guilty to the two summary offenses and was fined $543.50.[15]

Reed was cited again for public intoxication and disorderly conduct related charges on October 18, 2009, hours after the team defeated the Cleveland Browns. The incident occurred when tight end Matt Spaeth was cited for urinating in public, and Reed refused to comply with police orders to go back inside his SUV. He later apologized to his team for his conduct.[16]

Missing paper towel is a known anger trigger

TWO things Ike,

1) I fully agree on your Buddy Johnson take, coaching staff has something in mind there.

2) That's the contention, Coach portrays his day after draft picks as if they were his day before draft picks.

BONUS

3) That current RT has potential should he get the light switch to work. The better he plays the more value that 3rd comp pick will look thus the more value obtained from the "BELL" debicle.

Thanks for the insight.

Damn DIC, that’s the 3 punch combo for the KO!

I think what we need around here is an official “You’re on the clock” thread next draft day and if your personal pick isn’t in before/as we announce ours nobody recognize s it. Kills me every year as people wait til our next pick or worse yet the next day and say I woulda grabbed so and so.

Do it like they do or it don’t mean a thing. We’re all much more brilliant when we have the benefit of hindsight, but it doesn’t make you look smart at all when a day or week later you’re saying I woulda grabbed so and so:

If so prove it when we’re in the clock.

Some posters will do us all the benefit of putting out their projections at every position predraft…now that takes nerve and guts and I appreciate and applaud all those out there willing to be so transparent.
