Bell suspended

Why don't you guys at least be honest and instead of ***** footing around all the time? Admit that you won't be happy until an old white guy is coaching the team.

If you're going to imply that someone is a racist you need to name names and address that person or persons specifically in your post. Please do not make that type of accusation with such a broad brush. There may be people who disagree with the treatment of players and repeat offenders who do so for legitimate reasons and not because of racist views. It is unfair to those contributors.

Expose the people you feel are racist. Stand behind your principles. But please do not throw around blanket accusations.

And another thing. I could care less if the Steelers are some bastion of morality. I don't give a **** how many penalties they have as long as they win games. I guess I have to remember that on a message board I could be arguing with 14 years olds who still think the guys on their team are better or should be better guys than some other team. Every team has good guys and bad guys. Stop it with this immature I expect the Steelers to be better stuff. If that's what you believe, who were you rooting for in the '08 Super Bowl. Our good time Charlie QB or the upstanding Christian Kurt Warner?

Nothing wrong with fans wanting the players to hold to a certain standard. This is a team sport, a fan base that supports them like no other. Without fans the NFL doesn't exist. Will all of them act like we want them to? no

At the same time I wouldn't support the team if they was a carbon copy of the cheats. And many others would follow suit. I ditched Penn State because obvious reasons.

There is a line in life and should be to everything associated with it, not to cross.

I don't expect the players to be boy scouts, but I do expect them to follow the ******* rules so that it isn't a detriment to the team.

And what Bell and Bryant did, make no mistake about it, hurt the team.

Just two pieces of a puzzle not there, one for a season the other four games.

We all know the difference one or two losses can make it achieving a goal. And how injuries can road block that.

So not unreasonable to not want something outside of a injury to road block the team.

And if these numbnuts can't get it, let them go to another team and disrupt their chemistry.

funny thing about finger pointers. Not necessarily the case here. They tend to be the actual racist.

If everything associated with a person is this black person this and this black person that, or this white person this or this white person that.

Usually is a indicator they are the actual racist.

I have seen them, all their social media friends are black or white. everything out their mouth is associated with race.

It is a division this country has took on, even more so than ever before.

And I wonder if it will ever heal, just too much ignorance out there.

And it is sickening.

I agree with everything you just said. My argument is when people blame other people for the actions of adults. They have to know, grow up. Nobody, and no punishment is going to make them do that if they don't get it. Has to come from inside. When I was young and dumb it took me to just realize one day that this is stupid, if I don't want to be a waste I better get my **** together. It hit me after I failed a test in my 2nd year at PSU. I wasn't taking it seriously, and I was ****** paying for it. What a dumbass I was. My parents would ride my *** about it, but it took me to wake up.

And my point with the Kurt Warner reference is that if people are looking for this damn near perfect individuals, be consistent and root for those people where you find them.

Isn't weed legal in Canada? Maybe him and Martavius could play in the CFL.

Nah, I'll pass but thanks for the invitation. If it hits home to someone and they take offense to it personally, then they are pretty much outing themselves.......wouldn't you say?

Why don't you stop worrying about who/why/what people root for and go **** off. You are such a dick.

Cause I don't want to. You hurt my feelings a little bit there. I am going to curl up in a ball now.

In this heated political season, I think we've all gone a little overboard on this action meaning more than it actually does.

It's kind of the state of America right now.

When anything bad happens to the team/player the BROAD debate about Tomlin's leadership will get sucked back into it. And Tomlin's leadership is a divisive part of being a Steelers fan right now. Some really like the job he's doing. Some not so much. I'm sure race is an issue (even if it shouldn't be) but Tomlin doesn't always leave his "blackness" out of the equation either. And I don't think it's racist to question cultural stereotypes that are morally questionable. It's not a coincidence weed issues, mismanagement of money, trouble with the law, gang culture, music that degrades women and law enforcement and children out of wedlock or with multiple women happen at a much higher rate in sports with African-American players than with white players. That's kind of what fuels the stereotypes in the first place. And it's not racist to acknowledge these problems exist. I actually think if we acknowledge them MORE as a society maybe we could find ways to correct immoral behavior.

I would hope our coach (black or white) doesn't reinforce (or accept them as culturally acceptable) these stereotypes with his actions. And the organization as well.

Everyone here knows I walked away from this team over a decision made by the organization and Tomlin (signing Michael Vick) which I will not forgive or forget. I'm back but not like I was before. And that's just another straw for reasons I don't like Tomlin as much as other coaches.

All I'm saying is Bell getting suspended is NOT all on Tomlin or the organization. We all know that.

What we are really back to debating is Tomlin, which we've done a million times in a million different ways. Not sure anyone's mind is getting changed after almost a decade with the guy now. At least not in July.

Every season has it's challenges. Every season is different. We'll just have to wait and see how Colbert/Tomlin adjust the roster and get prepared for the season and execute once the season starts. Again.... very first chapter of a very long novel that hasn't been written yet. That chapter is "The Offseason"....

Sorry for the personal insult. My bad.

It's OK. Been called worse.

Look, I am an older guy. I remember the 70s well, but also remember the early to mid 90s quite well. During those years the Cowboys were running over everybody. And as we all know, they were not the best guys. But what I remember in the 90s was discussions among Steeler fans that we have a bunch of good guys, but we need to get some of those Miami U type guys. Well, we have some of those guys. They are extremely talented, but with that you have some of the other stuff. Doesn't have to be that way, but for some reason it is. As for me, I take my chances with these extremely talented guys. I don't look to them to be any guide on how to live my life. I don't give a **** what they do, as long as they win games. I would think they would love that attitude from fans. By the same token, I don't give a **** about how rough it as for them growing up, if their Mom died or their Dad was never around or whatever. Just win games.

This approach that I have has happened through over 40 years of being a fan of the Steelers and sports in general. Whenever these guys get into trouble, they make statements that fans shouldn't worry about this stuff, just about whether they play well and win games. I have heard that countless times in 40+ years, and I am just taking them at their word.

And again, I mean no insult about the Kurt Warner reference. I am simply asking for consistency. If one cannot find what one is looking for in a team, would it not behoove one to go elsewhere to find it? I disagreed with Del when he made his stand on Vick for various reasons, but it was something to respect. He followed through.

It's now time the Steelers start working hard to get pot off the banned substance list. Then our best players can play!

Which I would be fine with, and I am not necessarily a legalize pot guy. I just think it is a lost battle.

Although I still have to be convinced that marijuana is not harmful to the brain. Especially when you have guys messing around with millions of dollars just to get high.

Well, we have some of those guys. They are extremely talented, but with that you have some of the other stuff. Doesn't have to be that way, but for some reason it is. As for me, I take my chances with these extremely talented guys.

It doesn't matter how much talent they have if they're not on the field.

Steelers should approach Bell about extension now

We first heard that Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell might have missed a required drug test a month ago when the Steelers were at mini-camp.

At the time, Bell denied that had happened, saying he hadn’t failed or missed any tests.

I took him at his word since only one outlet reported it at that time.

Friday, however, the news came out again that Bell was facing a suspension for skipping a test. That immediately brought everything to the forefront again.

It appears that Bell did, indeed, miss a required test, which, for a player in his situation can result in an automatic 4-game suspension.

But, the league also can suspend a player if they feel he intentionally skipped a test. That is apparently what happened with Steelers receiver Martavis Bryant. If that is what happened with Bell, he might have some wiggle room on this.

He is appealing the suspension. And if there is a good reason why he might have missed a test, the league could choose to go lightly on him. After all, he wasn’t a guy who had failed multiple tests to get placed in the program. His entrance came from one incident - albeit a bad one in which he was operating a vehicle.

What does this do for Bell and the Steelers in the long term? For me, it puts all negotiating power in the court of the Steelers.

If I’m GM Kevin Colbert, I approach Bell’s agent right now and offer a four-year contract extension at $7 to $8 million per season.

Bell went on record - literally, in fact – saying he was worth $15 million a season on his rap CD. He later backtracked on that.

Adrian Peterson makes $14 million per season. But the next tier of running backs – LeSean McCoy, Jonathan Stewart, Doug Martin and Jamaal Charles – are all in the 7-8 range per season.

They wouldn’t have to work hard to convince him that he’s not getting a big contract on the open market with a year-long suspension as a possibility for another infraction.

Bell is the best running back not named Peterson in the league. And, at 24, he might be a better overall talent than Peterson with room still to grow as a player.

But he’s had injury issues – something the player and his agent aren’t going to want to discuss – and the suspension issues, which are something that must be factored into the equation.

If this four-game suspension is upheld, Bell will be one strike away from a year’s suspension.

If I’m the Steelers, I use that as a bargaining chip. And there’s little to lose.

If Bell signs, you’ve got the best back in the league signed to a reasonable deal. And if he messes up and gets suspended again, that year carries over. And he would still be under 30.

There’s an inherent danger to signing any NFL player to long-term deals because of injuries. That’s why NFL contracts largely aren’t guaranteed.

Getting Bell signed to an extension that includes some incentives for him to stay on the straight and narrow - and I believe he’s a good kid who has made a couple of mistakes – could be a bargain right now.

As for what will happen on the field, this is why the Steelers went out and signed DeAngelo Williams last year. Williams responded with 907 yards last season and Pittsburgh will be fine with him in the backfield for the first month.

Besides, with Bell coming off an MCL injury, the Steelers now don’t have to worry about him coming back too soon. He’ll get an extra month to heal. And that can’t be a bad thing.

The division is all by design. It kills me that the average Joe has no idea what is really happening. Divide and conquer; that's all this is.

I read this article and agree with it for the most part. I guess my problem is that are the Steelers even going to offer him the $7-$8 million? Honestly, right now I can't imagine them offering him more than $5-$6 million in a largely incentive based deal. I can't imagine Bell getting a whole lot of guaranteed money, not on this contract anyway. Somewhere, Antonio Brown is laughing and rubbing his hands together.

Yeah lets reward a stoner and an idiot with a long term deal when he is now one more failed or missed test away from a year long suspension. More likely Tomlin wears the tires off Bell a la Willie Parker and we let the turd go. Next year is a loaded draft at RB and Bell is not a guy you can count on to play o full season, this is his 4th straight year he has missed considerable time with injuries or drug issues.

15 million... ya right. Wonder what the Tomlin backers are going to say now. We need to fire Tomlin and cut Bryant, Bell, Pouncey, and any other thug on this ******* team and clean house! I don't care if it costs us a shot at the bowl I don't want to cheer for a bunch of degenerative fucktards.

Wonder if you include Ben ?
