Bell suspended

The suspension is the same or otherwise he would be suspended longer. The NFL already knows he missed multiple tests. So why would they announce a 4 game suspension??????

Anyone know how the test notification process works ? Do they notify the player and the team at the same time ? Email, phone call ? I'm curious just how steps have been ignored to miss a drug test ?

The precedence of Santonio Holmes (which I didn't agree with back in 2010) looms over this entire situation.

People that are rightfully asking.. "What makes Bryant and Bell different than Holmes?" are 100% correct. In the "Summer of Midville", Holmes was clearly used as a scapegoat for the ongoing Roethlisberger issues to show America that the Steelers don't just put up with bad apples. When he was looking at a 4-game suspension for pot, we cut ties with him faster than a bullet train. Traded him for a 5th round pick.

Same situation with Bell. Last year of his rookie contract. Same infraction. Same suspension.

And you could just as much argue Holmes' contributions to this team up to that point in their career was extremely similar to Bell's. Holmes was a freaking Super Bowl MVP if I remember correctly....

We'll see how this shakes out but you could definitely argue the "morals" (if you care about that sort of thing) of the team are declining. And the way this team acted with Holmes vs. Bell could be a telling sign.

Just the player I believe. They may contact him and come to wherever he is. He needs to provide a sample immediately. Josh Norman said he was at a family cookout and they came to him and he had to pee in the cup.

Then how does Bell think he can justify missing several tests? He simply can't. Mind boggling what he put on the line here. For himself and his team.

I just can't understand how a guy who worked so hard to physically transform himself and become one of the top backs in the league could be so dumb when it comes to this stuff.

Holmes also had that nightclub situation hanging over his head.

Holmes also had some questionable photos leaked

Yep pretty idiotic and the lying didn't help either. Just dumb. Has to grow up. If you need help for your problem get it. You have money and an organization that will support you if you just go to them and say I have a problem.

IMO Nothing is being done or will be, based on the fact Bell is so good on the field and is so promising. (on the field) Its the last ingredient needed for this offense.

Doesn't really have to be anything done Williams is a good back and if Bell doesn't stay straight that's on him. We will just move on. Its up to Bell on what direction he wants this to go.

Bell's twitter account has been locked down. I read he was talking crazy and threatening people.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Didn't savran say at the end of regular season it's the most immature team he's been around ? Makes sense being run by a clown

The leadership on this team is severely lacking. And it has been a drain since the Cowher players retired. If Pouncey, who has his share of off the field incidents and too many missed games due to injury is a team captain what does that tell you?

While it's very hard to directly quantify, the culture of the team has a lot to do with the head coach. Some teams have a lot of problem players, other do not. Some coaches have a track record working well with trouble players, others do not.

During Tomlin's tenure we have seen too many trouble players, and once they go bad, they don't seem to right their ship. Why is this so?

It was a fake account wasn't him..

Um Ben Rothlisberger has managed to right the ship. How could you miss the most obvious profile case.

Geez I'm mean Tomlin sucks we need Belichek in here let's gets some murderers in here. Smoking? Step it up Tomlin.

But I'm sure someone will come on and say Tomlin had nothing to do with Ben maturation(and I'm not saying he did)..but then turn around and say he has played a role in Bell's and Bryant's mishaps..you can't have it both ways. That's all I do when it comes to Tomlin point out the double standards I think I see. Unfortunately that is seen as me thinking he is the best thing since sliced bread. Oh well

I justed checked. His twitter account has been locked down. Did Bell say it was a fake? Not sure if I'd believe him right now.

He hasn't said anything hasn't been on any social media at all. Which I think is cowardly. Man up apologize and take your medicine. But then again rather he shut it all down then mess up even more. Yes it was confirmed it wasn't him

Bryant failed multiple tests, not just missing them. Either way, they are both idiots and drug addicts.

I thought this was pretty clear on Friday and was explained in the first thread. You're able to miss 2 tests and be put into the drug rehab and fined, third missed or failed test and you're suspended 2 games and the 4th missed test or failure gets you 4 games
So Bell missed 4 tests.

Where I would part company on you with your analysis here is while Santonio Holmes was a very good receiver, you can find Santonio Holmes type guys in every draft. Hell, they drafted two in 2010, and the two they drafted have turned out to be much better than Holmes. I think teams know this. However, finding a guy with Bryant skill set and Bell's skill set don't come around all the time.

So, where Holmes ****** up was being very good and stupid, where as Bell and Bryant have the potential to be very special albeit stupid. Teams will give special and stupid more chances than very good and stupid.

I agree whole heartedly.

My random thoughts on this whole thing:
- I don't care if Bell smokes weed with the exception of his reliability to not be suspended. If my employer told me I couldn't enjoy my weekend beer and rum and coke, I'd be in the same situation. I can't wag my finger at him. HOWEVER, what has happened here is that there is either no team leadership to help him and possibly Bryant live within the system, or they ignored the leadership. Once a guy like this is in the system he is ******. And he got in the system when him and ******** number 2 flaunted it and took a stupid traffic violation. Now the scrutiny is too high and he is ******. He can't function without a majo life overall that only he can manage. Like are we really going to sit here and say that guys like Blount and Marshawn Lynch etc. weren't/ aren't smoking weed. Really. No they were/ are just able to move through the system.
- I think what the team should do is look at him as a one year stop gap in a two or three year window of opportunity to get a SB. PROVIDED there is no more suspension to follow and the team can still get off to a reasonable start, I don't mind him missing the first four games. If Tomlin has proved one thing it is that he has no clue how to manage a feature back like this and runs him into the ground. So what the team needs to do is get AB's contract done this summer during training camp. Use money you were planning to use on Bell and get it done. Because one way or the other you won't be using that cash anyways. He will either continue a Steeler at a much cheaper rate then you expected to have to pay ie. year to year contracts or incentive/ self protected based (unlikely) or he is gone (likely).
- Take stock of what you really have on the roster at back (is there a number two back on the roster beyond Williams). Then draft a back high next year and either bring in a stop gap veteran or plug in a Touissant or someone if they are good enough. Running backs don't get drafted high anymore. There are plenty of good ones in late first round ALWAYS and running back is a plug and play position. Most veteran Running backs have a 5-7 year window of impact. This is year four. You ain't getting 7. It is what it is.
